Velier Savanna Indian Ocean Stills 2012
Glue, nail polish and eucalyptus on the nose, then mango, pineapple, peaches and black tea over spicy, roasted wood. It's a cask-strength Savanna cane-juice rum, and the recurring gripe is the alcohol: at 61% several tasters find it hot and not well integrated, "biting" on the first sip. Give it plenty of air and the fruit and tea come forward.

How does Velier Savanna Indian Ocean Stills 2012 taste?
Aggregated from 44 community reviews.
Funky Savanna agricole, hot and unintegrated Divides even Savanna fans. Fruit, black tea and roasted wood are all there, but most find the 61% alcohol poorly integrated and the whole thing a touch unspectacular for the distillery.

This one is pretty good especially when looking at the price tag at release. Fruity and fresh as well as warm on the palate once rested for a good while. I love the roasted almost burned wood notes on the profile.

The Road Rummers Africa tasting Very soft nose. Only thing i'm getting is a bit of Calvados. In the mouth you get spices and black thea wich develop in red fruits mainly cherry. The finish is rather medicinal for me. Overal rather dissapointing rum, but not that bad. Nice for tasting not for buying.

Peach black tea with a lot of glue and varnish! pretty funky on the nose, in the taste then something a little charred and after salty dark chocolate with strong black tea and licorice. overall but somewhat unbalanced and still right "Brandig" sharp...
Review by Righrum
A sub par savanna, with an unpleasant roasted side that do not pair well with its profile. Tasted again in late 2024, with more time to delve on it. It has a nice complexity and it is packed with savanna typical flavours, black olives and brine especially.

Better than the Indian Ocean sister bottling of Chamarel, but also here comes across a little too less that lifts the rum over the threshold of sheer complaisance. Although there are a little more edges and corners (worth mentioning is the interplay of black tea with the fruity notes, which leads to an interesting melange of fruit, spice and bitter notes) - but in the end the whole remains a little too little complex. Probably a few more years of storage would have helped to enhance the flavor profile - so the rum remains too unspectacular to be remembered.

Distinct alcohol note, which hardly diminishes even after a longer period. Rather unspectacular and edgy compared to standard Savannas. Also not really complex. Bitter although the wood does not predominate is special.

The alcohol is not integrated. Taste of Savanna unshared cask is there, but too much alcohol over it Rumy z destilerie Savanna jsou jedny z mych nejoblibenejsich. Tolik ovoce v nekolika malo kapkach tekutiny jste dlouho necitili.

This is rough. The nose is so closed. I really don't get it. Blind you would never guess savanna. Where is any fruit just acidity and wood. I am so amazed by the difference..even the relatively cheap prices don't justify this
