Near-universal love here, and it earns it. Glue and nail-polish jump out of the glass first, then coconut, orange peel, vanilla and a menthol freshness — classic tropically-aged Diamond. On the palate it's oily and full but drinks far softer than 55% suggests, with dark chocolate, dried fruit and a spicy, lightly bitter oak edge. Members keep comparing it to pricier Velier Demeraras and finding it holds its own. The one recurring gripe: a finish shorter than the nose promises.

my absolute Diamond reference!🤤for me the best Guyana Rum I've ever had. here goes in liquid form the sun rises. really nice sipper in the high end range! the thing is drinkable pineapple banana jam with a nice spice, Ordentlich glue and ester and just really great cinema! I am absolutely thrilled and could spend the whole evening with this drop. Really nice drop!For me on a par with uitvlugt ULR!

In the flavor profile, surprisingly close to the late Velier Demeraras and thus at a very high level. Rich caramel sweetness and great wood notes from the ex-bourbon cask, spices, chocolate notes, roasted nuts, dried fruits, subtle tobacco and leather. Great rum and another highlight of the El Dorado Rare Cask series.

A wonderful tropical ripened Demerara with lots of coconut. Beautiful nose, you can smell it forever. The alcohol is very well integrated, perhaps not quite as complex. The cask probably saw caramel in some form, very oily, dark and full-bodied.Another alternative from the underrated El Dorado Rare Collection. No idea why this one is still available, I've been saving up for it anyway.

Wonderful Diamond, which together with Albion and Skeldon is clearly at the top of the El Dorado Rare Collection. Expressive, complex and excellently balanced. Absolutely convincing even in comparison to significantly more expensive Velier bottlings and with an impressive price-performance ratio.

High-end sipper. Lots of nail polish remover and glue in the nose, lots of milk chocolate, dried fruits, very light dill and something pliziges. Very clean flavor profile. Soft but full bodied. The profiles you can expect when it says Diamond are very different and versatile, fun. This one reminds me a lot of a NY or FS. A lot of fun.

The nose is beguiling...I could sniff it for hours, It loses a little on the palate...I miss the depth. The finish is medium long with a pleasant bitterness! This is another successful rare cask bottling from El Dorado! Edit: In today's tasting, I increased the score by 0.2 points, as I now find it much more complex

26.10.2025 Part 2 / Evening Session Today we have an El Dorado Rare Cask online tasting and I've been looking forward to it. I will keep the score and just enjoy the rums and I have all of them on my shelves as well. ---------------- This one is also a really nice and complex release. ABV and wood are very well balanced.

One of (if not the) best Diamond I've tried so far... Incredibly complex nose some ester 🫨🫨Fruity chocolate ...Nutty nougat... simply awesome . Super oily on the palate with lots of chocolate, nougat and dark fruit ... beautifully spicy and round . Really, really good stuff.

Compared to other rums from the ED Rare Collection, the nose of this Diamond is more in the direction of spice (vanilla), citrus fruit and coconut, herbs (mint) and glue/varnish, not forgetting the typical roasted aromas and chocolate. In the mouth, tart fruits, herbs, wood and spices, very complex and dry! Quite good, but not as convincing as an Albion or Skeldon.

Another great El Dorado rare collection rum! I see a lot of reviews comparing this with Velier Demeraras which is great, Maybe I'm not missing out on that much by not having been lucky enough to have tried any of them😄. Complex, heavy and deep for me. Dark Chocoate, fruits and spicy. A great nose with a medium length finish. All the notes of a great Demerara.

Hallelujah. For me, by far the best of the ED Rare Collection (ahead of Albion and EHP 96). Elegant. Glue galore, fruity, delicious wood maturity. Nose unearthly good. Very nice bitterness on the palate. Indeed, not far from Velier level. Edit: In a direct comparison against the other Column Kings in the ED Rare Collection, clear winner for me. Followed by EHP 96, then Albion, then Skeldon

Completely tropically stored - and you can taste that simply also. Can easily compete in quality with Veliers, although much, much cheaper. And the crazy thing is: You can still buy it on the first market! Some things you probably do not have to understand ... Therefore: Don't think about it, just enjoy! Tropics concentrated in a glass. 😋

Four of the El Dorado Rare Collection bottlings tasted in parallel: 2004 Albion, 2000 Skeldon, 1998 Diamond CBH, 1996 Enmore. Despite their different characters, all four are very tasty and scored close together. If I had to choose (which fortunately I don't have to, as they are all on the shelf) I would first choose the Diamond (glue, fruit), then the Enmore (even more glue, fruit), followed by the Albion (caramel and nougat) and the Skeldon (mocha).

90 points. Another El Dorado Rare Cask that drinks like a poor man’s Velier Demerara. It makes me wonder how many casks of the same level they still have in stock and why they don’t release anything new that would be on similar levels with this series.

9,4:On the nose, the opening impression is very round with a toasted/roasted wood notes like caramel, fruits like coconut and peaches, maple with molasses and vanilla. On aeration, banana and orange arise, some glue, the molasses is vegetal with some tobacco and minty.The wood becomes darker with cocoa, nuts, spicier with nutmeg. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is round, fruity with peaches, orange, dried fruits marmelade, there are roasted, caramelized notes, some leather, spices like vanilla, some tannins arise, the molasses is syrupy, herbaceous, minty and with tea.On oxidation, Piña Colada occupies our tasting buds, surprisingly, slightly brightens the rum. 9:The finish is long, dry and tannic, there are roasted and charred wood notes, slightly smoky, pairing tobacco and herbaceous molasses, variety of fruits like pineapple, peaches and citrus fruits. I find this rum excellent. The nose is fantastic for those who like dark demerara. The attack in mouth is warm, sticky! We can nevertheless regret its length, a bit short. Second passage: it is really very good, as good as the Skeldon and the Albion of the same brand, it just depends on personal tastes.

If one would be asked to provide one example of a perfect Rum to an non Rum drinking person I think this would be a good candidate. Well matured, molasses driven, spices, dried fruits and a great sweetness (crème brûlée anyone?). Of course, there are specialties from other directions, but this is what Rum is all about.

Where to even begin with this stunner of a rum? What we have here is nothing less than one of the best ones ever made. For me this was also the bottle that really cemented that Demerara is where it's at for me. There is no other profile quite like it. Unfortunately perhaps, they are also well aware of this fact and so prices follow accordingly. However, considering the quality and the flavor and notwithstanding accusations of such during its release, I would not call this bottle overpriced. From the start to the finish it is a true pleasure. There's no need to attach little gimmicky similes and metaphors to describe its flavor, a rum of this quality is above that. Its flavor is uniquely its own, and it is sublime, probably some of the very best to ever come out of the Demerara region.

Second tasting today after the surprise by RumX at the Rumfest last year. Thanks Tim this time for the sample.nose first much coconut. But unlike Barbados or Belize instead of roasted notes here neat eucalyptus to it. Some licorice I also perceive. Then very complex on the palate. Wood influence is clear but hardly bitter here. Dry fruit, flattering spice. Nice deep profile only a little more length in the finish I would wish. But who wants to complain there 😋

An absolutely remarkable Diamond. The nose starts in the best way with a hint of glue, then fruit in spades (tropical, citrus), minty freshness, slightly toasted wood and caramelized sweetness with toffee. The palate is intense and complex, with incredible depth. The honeyed notes, the sweetness of the fruits (tropical fruits, pineapple and marmalade), the dark side of the Demerara profile (spices, wood, chocolate) and the freshness that emerges make it a superb profile. The finish is exquisite, long and pleasant on the same frame. A deep, complex and fantastic rum, still accessible, with an unbeatable price/quality ratio.

Balancing the darkness of old Demerara with the traditional Barbados feel of coconut, caramel, cocoa and coffee toffee, accompanied by light tobacco, it is warm and cozy. An unforgettable experience, complex and powerful enough. I can't compare it to Velier's Diamond 1999 (too far away to recall), but it does a great job, with only a bit more tannic dryness than V's 1996 (which may cause a bit of discomfort) and a bit less of an order of flavors showing up in sequence, but have enough complexity. Super ingenious, complex nose that you can sniff forever :) Also meets my taste on the palate. The finish is slightly bitter. ABV perfectly integrated. So far my Diamond favorite! Tasted again in direct comparison with the Albion and the ED EHP. The CBH has the best nose, on the palate the Albion is ahead for me. CBH + Albion 9.1, EHP 8.9.

Wow, I find this one really outstandingly delicious, an amazing rum. It goes down like water, I don't think there's any alcohol in it :) Coconut, vanilla, wood, and caramel are otherwise clearly noticeable here.

Tasted again today, the red wine notes still there. Keeping score the same. Very enjoyable to sip, hard to put it down. Heavy on tannins, tobacco, banana and coconut. Finish not too long.

Great sweetish nose: banana, oak, coconut and vanilla. Very pleasing, but also complex with some blackcurrant acidity etc Incredibly soft in the mouth and also pleasing but complex at the same time. Nothing overwhelming, simply delicious. Only the finish is surprisingly short for what comes before. Less intense than most Guyanas I've had so far, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

A nose of coconut that immediately makes you want to taste it! In the mouth it is very good, leather on a background of marmalade, oak. It is complex and very good, the alcohol is very well integrated. In summary a real success and a very good note for me!

For my 100th review, im just going to review random unknown rum and see how i like it..... On the nose: First impressions: very complex and round. Roasted/toasted woody notes up front and that dominates the profile. Vanilla, coconut, caramel. After sitting inbthe glass you get hints of maple and orangepeel notes in there. Taste: Woody, Oak, leather,caramel, vanilla and molasses notes. After you work it in your mouth you get dried fruits and orange. Abv is integrated nicely. Abv level feels lightly intensive, but you still feel the complex palate. Probably the most round and complex Rare Collection that i have tasted so far. Finish: Woody, roasted but more charred profile, dry. Orange peel notes. It does have a complex profile even in the finish. Medium finish. Ok, i really like this rum a lot.On the El Dorado Rare Collection series i would put this to close second place after Skeldon.

Demerara cross tasting 28.04.24 This is the weakest so far, but still really good. Like the other Diamond 1998 bottled in this range, I find some varnish, raisins and plums on the nose, plus a bit of spices and liquorice. Nice one but lesser than the sister bottling. In the mouth is pretty balanced, less tannic and more caramel driven

Ui... have recently tried the Velier Diamond 1999 in lmdw... this one is really fantastic! Convinces me more! Fuller than the Velier, brighter than the Skeldon 2000. Who likes the Diamond profile will love the! I'm there more with Hampden, Mhoba, Caroni and Rhum Rhum Liberation, but this is a heaven!

Strong glue aroma. It almost makes you feel dizzy... Perhaps with a roasted vanilla pod. Quite spicy on the palate. Very complex. The vanilla lingers. But not cheap at all. Really nice. Still a stunner in the night tasting.

Today I had an El Dorado again. Very smooth and easy-drinking. Flavor-wise, the vanilla stands out the most for me. Could be a bit more complex. But that's complaining at a high level. I really like this one.

Glue and coconut really jump to the nose. However, molasses, orange, lush sweetness, banana and rich spice then take over the stage. Flavorfully engaging, intense and highly complex. Pineapple, coconut and glue first, then moving towards spicy, dark chocolate and slightly bitter barrel. Contrasted by fruity esters, menthol freshness and broad, overripe fruit. 'Easy sipping' in the range was completely foreign to me until now. Here you learn it.

Unlike the 99 SVW, this one goes into the race much more brute and intense. What a nose! Glue, polish, orange peel, mango, cola, malt.... But then...As with the Velier, here suddenly comes a herbal licorice liquorice note that overpowers the whole rum and what I just can't do much with anymore. Here, unfortunately, the whole thing is much more intense and also here many seem not to share my subjective impression. In the mouth it is then better and he is also altogether quite tasty, the overall impression but unfortunately not saved. Too bad....
