Beautiful Versailles profile, typical mineral notes, wood and dark spices. In direct comparison to other 1990 Enmore releases with a more present bitterness of dry licorice, tea and smoke. The reduction works very well, pleasantly accessible and yet aromatically demanding at the same time. A successful rum release.

Very intense and great nose but taste it falls unfortunately quite nice and is quite one-dimensional and burnt bitter, after hay, pepper and lemon peel.

Enmore 1990 Blindtasting No.5: This is the winning bottling for me and clearly in 1st place out of 8: It contains all the classic MEV Enmore flavors in a well-balanced with top integrated alcohol. It is the most complex of all 8

So the last 5 Enmores from Alex tasted his cool split again. All from the same vintage and quite similar in profile, although there are certain differences in my opinion. As a conclusion for me, not bad, but the profile is currently just not the one that completely picks me up.

Cross Tastinge across 12 bottlings of 1990 Versialles destilled Enmores. Looking at the cask strength / 50%+ ABV bottlings in the line up (CG, DT, Duchess, Greenheart I & II, RdL, Sponge, TWJ), all deliver on the classic Versailles notes: Pencil, herbs/anis, some continental fruits and a wet/moldy woodiness. Quality wise I don’t see an outlier tbh, all very enjoyable. Noticeable, however, is a very intense nose on the Sponge, which adds lots of resin and „woody“ notes to the mix,probably paying tribute to its (partly) maturation in wine casks. This is clearly outstanding out of the batch. Bonus points for the older Greenheart and TWJ for highest intensity on the (continental) fruit notes for me. DT and The Duchess gravitating more towards spicy notes in the mix. Same overall verdict for the palate. All rums in the batch are of high quality and there is no dramatic outlier (good or bad), except for the Rum Sponge. While I enjoyed the nose, on the palate the bottling is overwhelmed by wine notes. As for a lot of finished/double matured releases I just don’t see the point and here don’t like it particularly. Among the other bottlings: the DT is particularly nicely balanced with a pleasant sweetness working nicely with herbal and more darker notes. Very enjoyable. My favorite on the palate is probably the younger Greenheart (at least in this sitting). Almost as balanced as the DT but with a bit more anise and herbal notes for a bit more excitement. The older Greenheart is also very nice, with a bit less sweetness yet also very nicely balanced. TWJ and The Duchess are overall a bit more in the harsher side concerning alcohol integration, yet still very good. Very strong bottlings of the vinatage overall and a pleasure to have some side by side. Cheers to Alex for curating (most of) the tasting set! 🙌

Community Tasting Enmore 1990 VSG/MEV als Blindverkostung. Rum5 Anis, Lakritze, helles rauchiges Holz u d gelbe Früchte. Schöne Nase. Am Gaumen angenehm im Mund und ausgewogen. Gefällt mir bis jetzt am besten. Community Tasting Enmore 1990. No. 5. A nose of equal parts wood and fruit. Apricot and dried fruit. The palate is bumpy, with alcohol, wood and fruit in disarray. The finish is short, except for the wood and sweetness. The least good of the series so far.

17.05.2019 Nice get together at my place with nice spread of rums. Notes Light in colour. Nose light roasted wood, nutts, banana, lemon, light ginger, faint rubber. Palate Round, light wood, fruity, nutts, light ginger, rubber, cherry, light mint, light caramel, medium dry. Finish Medium long, wood, light chocolate, fruits, light mint, faint citrus, medium dry.

Had hoped for something better, good but not top class. Nose mainly chocolate, but wood is also recognizable. Very malty and slightly bitter on the palate. Thanks to Dr. Django for the sample.

No5 of the 1990 Enmore Tasting, thanks to Alex Kunath. Very light in color, and typical according to the others. The taste is quite light at first, at least until the wood and aftertaste comes around. It's like a crescendo, the rums increases in intensity until the end. Unfortunately I find it a bit one dimensional, and as I always like the taste of fruit in a rum this will not be my favorite of the bunch.

A good Versailles, but nothing more. The nose is really good and gives hope. Lots of chocolate and a hint of malt. The taste is then very bitter and somewhat one-dimensional. The finish is very short.

Un Enmore 1990 profond et aux multiples facettes aromatiques. Le nez est attendrissant, complexe et réunit tous les ingrédients d’un bon Enmore. Les notes herbacées (thé, thym), rôties, boisées et épicées (piment, anis) sont harmonieuses et adoucient par un joli fruité sur le pamplemousse et l’orange. Les noix et le caramel apporte un supplément de douceur à ce profil olfactif très attirant. L’attaque en bouche est d’abord un peu abrupte avant de dévoiler pleinement ses arômes : poivre, réglisse, anis, chêne rôti et caramel assurent la partie sombre de Demerara, tandis que les arômes herbacés (copeaux de crayon compris), les agrumes et les notes minérales offrent une facette plus luxuriante et colorée à ce profil riche et élégant. Le côté piquant mais suave du profil lui donne beaucoup de cachet. L’alcool est très bien intégré. La finale est très plaisante et chaleureuse. Elle s’étend sur le temps avec les épices, le chocolat, le bois et les notes rôties mais avec une touche minérale et herbacée qui assèche le palais. Il y a un côté médicinal ainsi que de la gourmandise en bouche. Un très bon rhum sélectionné au bon moment pour pleinement profiter de son potentiel aromatique.

Guyana Tasting 1990 by Alex. Alle Rum sind 30 Minuten an der Luft gewesen, gleiches Recht für alle :-) Die Nr5 ist eine Mixtur aus 1-4. Nuss und Holz an der Nase. Cremig auf der Zunge, mit leicht röstigen Aromen.
