The surprise here is the nose, not the age: vanilla, chocolate, toffee and coffee with unexpected fruit — mandarin, orange peel, a touch of pineapple over it. Most tasters call it the best Flor de Caña they've had. The catch lands on the palate, which several describe as thin and clearly watered down at 45%. Aromatic and rounded, just lighter than 30 years promises.

I was very lucky today. I stumbled upon this extremely rare bottle when picking up my latest samples and bottles. I was allowed to buy a sample, it set me back 90,- euro, but I didn't regret it. One of the best rums I have sampled in the last 30+ years. The nose is there from the start, a wonderful fruity, smoky vanilla mix. The palate was one og the most well balanced i have ever had, not too much or too little of anything. Wow, just wow. The finish lingers on what seems like forever...... 5 generations and 130+ years and this is what you get, PERFECTION!

Flor de Cana waren mir bislang eher als unspektakuläre einfache Rum bekannt, die auch schon mal eine Dosage enthielten oder stark verdünnt sind. Insofern war meine Erwartung nicht allzu hoch. Und ich wurde auch nicht enttäuscht..angesichts des Preises und des dargebotenen… das ist hier auch nichts.. das ganze ist recht eindimensional und mehr auf der Fassseite mit ein paar Gewürzen und vielleicht noch etwas Schokolade..sorry, dass ist mir deitlich zu wenig

Leckere Nase ohne sprittige Noten und überraschend viel Frucht über der Vanille, dem Toffee/Karamell, der Schokolade, dem Holz und dem Kaffee. Neben Kokos ist da auch Zitrusschale (Mandarine, Orange) und etwas Ananas. Am Gaumen dann zwar etwas dünn aber doch aromatisch und schmackhaft mit Schokolade, Kaffee, Vanille, Holz, Tabak und schön samtigem Mundgefühl. Fein.

Nice round taste, vanillin, bourbon, wood, nut, chocolate, tobacco. I am pleasantly surprised! But of course very diluted. We don't even need to talk about the price-performance ratio here...
