Normally, I’m not a big fan of smoky aromas, but here it’s very subtle and fits well into the overall picture. Clear caramel sweetness meets wood and roasted notes, round and tasty! More of a rum for beginners to intermediate drinkers... the profile definitely suits my taste and it’s worth having tried it. Solid Spanish rum with high intensity despite only 40%.

8,8:On the nose, the influence of American oak predominates. It does so beautifully, with soft wood, vanilla, blond tobacco, toasted coconut and a certain sweetness that enriches these aromas. Aeration gives the rum a slightly more conquering side, which then brings out the pepper and smoke. The tobacco is a little browner, and the cane molasses brandy shows a fine concentration, even if the roundness is still palpable. 8,7:On the palate, the rum is terribly tasty. Once again, it's the American oak that does most of the work, and we've really made the most of its qualities. With a light smoky attack, the aromas of vanilla, mocha, red fruits, coconut, oily wood and tobacco are truly thick and delicious. 8,7:The finish maintains this greediness with a certain sweet roundness, we cannot miss Tiramisu 😃. Got this 5cl sample in my second batch from Rum Ratings Tasting Club and participated in the virtual tasting yesterday. The Abuelo XII Two Oaks is a 12yo rum stored in two different types of oak barrels. First on traditional Tennessee whiskey / bourbon casks during 11 years, and then a final storage on deep-fried casks of new American white oak. It’s produced from both molasses and sugar cane juice by Varela Hermanos. The sugar content is 24 gpl, so it’s sweet but not extremely sweet.

Though a rum in the cheaper end of the scale you still get a pretty good rum. Sweet and fruity with some smoke and wood. I like the caramel note in the profile. Draws nice curtains and the empty glass is nice after a while.

Auch ein sehr leckerer Abuelo, vielleicht sogar noch einen Ticken besser wie der XV Tawny. In der Nase sowie im Gaumen einen schönen Vanille- und Karamellgeschmack. Man schmeckt eine leicht, perfekt passende Süsse. Lecker.

very tasty intense Panama notes. Reddish / smoky and also woody. Of course, also relatively sweet. compared to the Abuelo 12 but relatively similar. the storage in freshly burned out barrels but is quite noticeable by more intense barrel flavors. in the taste, the tannins are clear which make the rum a little more bitter what remains especially long in the finish

Von Anfang bis Ende dreht es sich bei diesem Rum um Holz, bzw. Fass. Der intensive Geruch und Geschmack sind Ergebnis einer exzellent abgestimmten Fasslagerung. Die Süße ist erstklassig abgestimmt und der Abgang einfach rund.

Überraschend gut für den Zuckergehalt. In der Nase tatsächlich noch angenehm komplex, im Mund ist der Zucker dann doch störend und der Alkohol dafür noch merklich vorhanden. Gab‘s als Geschenk, würde ich mir nicht wieder kaufen aber wird getrunken ;)

Thick caramel and prunes in their own juices on the nose followed by a freshly opened tin of pipe tobacco. The palate has the caramel and prunes from the nose but now these present more like a coffee with syrups in. Not clawing but it is sweet. The finish is medium in length. Roasted nuts and dark chocolate notes mainly. Overall a great rum. Something that you could drink a few glasses of without getting boring.

Ve vůni je hromada nakouřeného dřeva, vanilky a karamelu. V chuti je prvotní sladkost a sudová ďrevitost. Přepálený cukr jde po chvilce do intenzivní hořkosti. Je to rozhodně ze zájimavějších kousků, která může panama nabídnout.

Wow, very impressive! Not from my usual trend since it is not very sweet but it is absolutely refreshing. This rum truly tastes of wood and spice. I would recommend it for any rum lover since it can cater to a variety of preferences. Has definitely made my rum list!

Sweet at first but then the taste opens and show more detailed notes such as caramel, burnt sugar, oak, spiciness from the charred oak barrel and finishes up in slight bitterness. It is more than medium sweet but nicely balanced. Interesting rum but definitely missed it's price tag. I would be down to paying max 35€. More than that is pure nonsense to me. Retaste: Agree 100% with my previous tasting.

Nez extraordinaire ! Pas de doutes Abuelo sait séduire avec ses arômes ! Fût de chêne évident, on se croirait à Bordeaux ! Caramel, vanille et figue. Bouche très franche sur l’alcool et le spiritueux où le rhum s’efface quand même pas mal. Ce rhum est fait davantage pour les amateurs de whiskys.

assez agréable au nez, avec des odeurs qui tourne quand même fort autour du bois ( fumé, chêne, fut) et une légère odeur de pruneaux bien mûre. En bouche assez doux et rond, pas trop sucré et une final sur le boisé assez longue.

Da ich für Raucharomen gern zu haben bin, startet die Nase dahingehend schon ganz nett und zusätzlich mit etwas Vanille, Kaffee und Trockenfrüchten. Am Gaumen dann Karamell, röstige Aromen, fruchtig und süß. Mittellanger Abgang. Insgesamt runde Sache “für alle Tage”.

There is a smoky scent and flavor that I did not pick up at first. I have liked many Ron Abuelo‘s in the past, and this was no exception. I tried it mixed, which was equally smoky and very nice; but this is definitely a sipper.

When I tried this rum (first from Abuelo). I was stunned. It is cheap and really good. Ok, there is some sugar content added, but I haven´t found better rum for every occasion than this one. Great for beginners and enjoyable for advanced drinker.
