Saint James 240 ans Cuvée Anniversaire
Blind, several tasters mistook this for a cognac — that vinous, raisiny, dried-fruit nose really does lean that way. It's a Martinique agricole from Saint James: sugarcane, light wood, orange and a whisper of chocolate, all nicely balanced. The catch is the palate. At 43% it reads watery and thin for many, fading fast where you want it to linger.

How does Saint James 240 ans Cuvée Anniversaire taste?
Aggregated from 26 community reviews.
Elegant nose, but thin and watery palate Pretty and well-balanced on the nose, but most find the body too thin and diluted for the price. A gentle sipper that "verfliegt" fast — nice, not memorable.

RumX advent Calendar - day 19 The kind of agricole I love, well balanced and tasty, despite ABV is low. In this rum, sugarcane and wood melts perfectly, with nice chocolate and cacao notes. This would be a great daily dram if it's price wasn't that high

14.12.2019 A nice get together in a summerhouse with family and friends and rum for some of us. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Light, round, light wood, faint roasted, sugarcane, orange, light citrus, light dried fruit, faint floral. Palate Light, balanced, sugarcane, light wood, dried fruit, medium dry, light grass, faint chocolate. Finish Medium long, light wood, sugarcane, medium dry, light vanilla, faint caramel, light orange.

RumX-Adventskalender 19.12.2023 Blind tasting: This rhum looked familiar to me. With , because I thought it was an Agricole from Martinique, namely RX1229. After all, I was exactly right with my estimate of the ABV. 😉

Catching up with missed class calendar days from December, after a month of a break. Quite relaxed Agricole, quite simple, alcohol not integrated too well. However overall impression quite pleasant, I've been warming up to Agricoles recently.

#24DaysOfRum2023 - Day 19 On the nose a sweet and vibrant aroma of fruits, nougat and grasses. Additionally it has wonderful evolution over time. It jumpstarts with berries, red rhubarb and grapefruit juice, before redefining itself sweeter with dried apricots and nougat. Eventually it gets spicier, grassier and lightly complex with camomile and clay notes. The aroma shows no restraint, yet certain elegance as it tip-toes between a multitude of flavours. Just like other tasters noted, I agree, the nose is much like cognac. I could smell this for hours. Less fruity and much more vegetal on the palate. Opens with blue grapes, rhubarb and grass. Then nougat and more minerality. It’s nice, fresh and cool, but unfortunately inefficiently diluted. It’s become too thin; its presence has become too volatile and its body has lost all power. What a shame. As a result the finish is short, uneventful and underly complex. The nose set the bar really -really!- high, but the palate made the price nothing short of insanity.
