Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection (Old Brothers) 2006
Cherry and fresh tobacco are what jump out first, wrapped in caramel, orange peel and a real smoky, burnt-wood edge that runs the whole way through. Several tasters call the fruit-and-roasted mix beautifully balanced with the 59% alcohol tucked in well. It leans dry and peppery, and one member found it a touch thin — but most think it's classic Saint Lucia done right.

Dry, smoky St. Lucia with cherry and tobacco Most tasters love this cask-strength St. Lucia for its cherry, tobacco and burnt-wood balance. A few find it drier and thinner than expected — you have to enjoy that smoky, roasted side.

Lots of fruit, including cherry, with fresh tobacco and leather, blended with empyreumatic notes.

strangely enough, a bit thin and quickly gone. overall me too much vinegar and tea notes and too weak.

Extremely good! Everything a Lucia needs!

A truly great rum.

I prefer it to its 8-year-old younger brother, which I find more spirited. The few extra years in bourbon barrels have smoothed things out a bit, with a hint of vanilla on the nose and palate.

Very dry and somehow peppery.

Superbly balanced, classic JD l & V profile. The last bit of originality is missing from the podium, but this profile is simply great and wonderfully complex and yet harmonious.

Cerise et tabac au nez !! Alcool plutôt bien intégré ! On retrouve ce tabac et la cerise en bouche ! Petite fraîcheur agréable sur la finale !

On the nose, it’s heavy, dark but fragrant. Very fruity with cherry, apple, and orange, peppery but mainly big empyreumatic notes (tobacco – wood – wax). It’s complex and richly satisfying with hints of chocolate. On the palate, the alcohol is less well integrated than the Berry Bros version tasted just before, the fruity side is less present and the woodiness is much more noticeable. There are toasted – grilled notes. Overall, it’s a bit too dry for my taste. The medium-long finish is complex. I find this selection less indulgent than the Berry Bros.
