Mezan Diamond Guyana 2005

Sip it neat and you get a lovely Port Mourant nose — plum, raisin, dried pear — then green wood, caramel and a little funk that creeps up your sinuses. The catch is the 40% ABV: the finish thins out and dies off fast. Several tasters found it bland as a sipper but happy over ginger ale. A gentle, watered-down intro to Guyanese pot still.

Easy Port Mourant intro, thin low-proof finish Most agree it opens beautifully with classic Port Mourant plum and wood, but the low ABV leaves it thin and short. A pleasant, easy example rather than a serious one.

Super nice Port Mourant nose up front. Plum, raisin and maybe dried pear. Pours pale golden. Mouth has a bit of green wood. Caramel, funk that gets up into your sinuses in a nice way. Finish kind of dies off due to low alcohol level, just a bit of sweetness and some woody bitterness. But has a great nice start. Not a bad drink for $40.

Taka demoverzia na guyansky funk. Velmi prijemne pitie, zazvor bylinky, ovocie. Je tam aj trochu odlakovaca, ja som spokojny 😅 Samozrejme, prospela by vyssia voltaz ale to by potom mebola ta demo verzia a lahke pitie.

I liked it very much. Good introduction to the topic of Port Morant. Higher ABV would stand the rum well. Finish somewhat short

Just fine. The profile is relatively flat and heavily watered down and for that it is not mild enough on the finish. A mixture of pear, apricot and citrus that end up quite smoky in the finish.

I enjoyed it very much as a mixer with some ginger ale. As a sipper it’s quite bland

Expert review by The Fat Rum Pirate

It's not a show stopper and it isn't sweet in El Dorado terms but it is a solid example of Pot Still rum from the Port Mourant still. Good if not quite great. Solid, workmanlike rum which won't bowl you over but is nicely made all the same and goes...
