Bristol Port Mourant Demerara Rum 1999
Licorice, anise and dark spice sit over dried fruit and a faint smoky edge in this Port Mourant from Bristol. Several tasters call it a classic PM profile, drier than most, with peach and apricot hovering underneath oak. The recurring gripe: at 46% it's been reduced a touch far, so the finish thins out and the wood can turn a little bitter.

Bristol PM Crosstasting #4: es zeigt sich allgemein ein Aufwärttrend, der bei dieser Abfüllung etwas in Stocken gerät. Ähnlich der Vorgänger, in der Nase zusätzlich Gebäck. In der Nase neben tropischen Früchten auch Trockenfrüchte.

Klassisches PM-Profil mit viel Fruchteinschlag, herben dunklen Gewürzen von Piment, Anis, Lakritz sowie Fassnoten, etwas Kräutern und Röstaromatik. Trotz der Frucht recht trocken ausgelegt, die Verdünnung funktioniert sehr gut und lässt die Komplexität des Destillats schön aufscheinen.

Nez : Premier nez sur un léger caramel qui se dissipe rapidement et laisse la place à de léger ester, des fruits tropicaux, ainsi que des notes végétales et assez fraiche. L’ouverture confirmera ses notes en y rajoutant de la banane, des épices notamment de la vanille et un côté métallique. Nous sommes sur un jolie nez enjôleur, gourmand, typique et bien équilibré, tout en retenu. Ce côté très « léger » pour un Guyana de 16 ans est probablement dû au vieillissement majoritairement continental sans que l’on sache exactement la durée. Bouche : Sèche au premier abord et bien marqué bois humide qui laisse place à des notes métalliques cuivrées, du poivre, des épices douces vanillées et un peu d’amande qui apportent de la gourmandise à l’ensemble. Les fruits tropicaux mêmes s’ils sont toujours présents sont désormais clairement au second plan. Finale : Moyenne à longue sur les épices, les notes cuivrées et une légère amertume en toute fin qui n’est pas désagréable. Avis : Très intéressant. Un port mourant typique, mais sur des notes discrètes et pas trop porté sur le bois humide avec un très beau nez qui apporte plus de gourmandise que la bouche offrant au final une belle complexité pour ce rhum. Le seul bémol … son prix ! je ne pense pas être prêt à mettre un tel prix pour cette bouteille.

Le nez est porté sur des notes terreuses-herbacées. Et on retrouve de la réglisse et de l’anis. Mais pas que, on retrouve également du raisin sec, du boisé et du cuir. Le nez est familier, mais il est complexe et intéressant. En bouche, c’est épicé et assez intense même à 46%. Il n’est pas parfaitement équilibré voir légèrement alcooleux. On retrouve une astringence voir une amertume un peu dérangeante dû à cette prédominance de boisé. Mais heureusement des fruits tropicaux permettent d’adoucir cela. La finale est chaude et plutôt sèche sur le boisé anisé. La conclusion est que ce PM est une bonne image de cet alambic, il lui manque un peu de gourmandise et est donc dédié aux amis des rhums plus secs. Il me fait un peu penser à son frère l’El Dorado Rare Collection PM 99

Le nez n'est pas désagréable. Très sucré de prime abord, mais aussi trop d'alcool au départ. On arrive quand même à y déceler des touches fruitées : un fruit doux type pêche ou abricot. Presque un bonbon. Une fois en bouche, tout s'écroule : alcool et amertume. La réduction a été brutale. C'est aqueux et plat. Pour un Diamond 1999, on est loin du compte. La finale est moins mauvaise, mais pas beaucoup plus agréable. Et malheureusement, ça reste assez longtemps en bouche.
