Have a bottle of this that I've used in cocktails. Nothing exciting. Just had a sample of this from a rum advent calendar. ..and wow, what a difference. Menthol, bubble gum, berries. It's still diluted and sweetened, but wow. What a difference between samples from two different bottles of a core offering.

07.2024 Erster Eindruck: lebendig, fruchtig, aromatisch Nase: schöne Melange aus Früchten, Honig, Vanille und wenig Röstaromen und Anflug von Estern Gaumen: frisch und vollmundig, alles, was Rum interessant macht, komplex Abgang: jetzt schiebt sich die kräftigere Aromenfraktion nach vorne, kurzer Nachhall Gesamteindruck: sehr schöner Feierabend-Sipper für erfolgreiche Tage Hatte den 1919 schon lange nicht mehr im Glas und freue mich, ihn wiederentdeckt zu haben. In der Mitte von fruchtigen Jamaikanern und würzigen Spaniern. Kommt wieder ins Regal, wenn er mal leer geworden sein sollte. 2018 Würzig-trockener Trinidadier mit sehr präsenten Holz- und Vanillenoten. Einer meiner ersten Rums, den ich alle paar Jahre gerne wieder einschenke, auch wenn sich meine Vorlieben verändert haben.

Pleasant nose of grape/wine and dried fruit, plus dark toasty aromas (baked apple, cocoa) that also remind me a bit of leather. Similarities to an Agricole are there. In the mouth, the nose continues, with sweetness, raisins, chocolate and spices. Alcohol spiciness is clearly noticeable. For the price, this is perfectly fine.

Used a whole bottle of it to make Dark ’n Stormy cocktails for my company this summer in a greek island. It worked great in the cocktails but i wouldn’t drink it as it is, too simple. But maybe ok for beginners.

The basic rum in Angostura's range, this juice offers more as it is tasted. The nose is fairly closed, stuck between spices (nutmeg, vanilla), barrel wood, caramel and raisin. Pear comes through subtly, but doesn't leave the best olfactory impression. The profile gains in flavor once on the palate. The markers remain the same (spices, caramel, dried fruit and light oak), but the alcoholic and medicinal touch on menthol lends a little charm to this classic British rum profile. The alcohol is a little more noticeable as a result, but it accompanies the overall profile well. The finish is of good quality, a little drier and more empyreumatic than the rest of the profile would suggest. Tobacco, licorice, roasted and spicy notes dominate in the face of caramel and dried fruit, which is not unpleasant. A rum that should serve as an introduction to more complex things, or that is destined to end up in mixology.

A light rum, but the alcohol can be felt on the nose, with vanilla and caramel.The palate is sweet with vanilla, little wood.The finish is a bit disappointing, short with honey.Nothing unpleasant, but nothing exceptional either.

It is a good rum balancing fresher notes with heavy old rum. There is sweetness, vanilla with hints of leather and tobacco. I like the attempt at balancing the heavy notes with fresh notes here. The effect gives it some nice sharp fruit notes. Shame it’s sweetened though.
