Bristol Enmore Demerara Rum Enmore Still 1988
Guyana wood-still fans and lovers of smoky whisky are the people who reach for this one. Licorice, leather, pencil shavings and dark spice, dry on the palate with a slightly oily, medicinal edge — one taster nailed it as green apple and cinnamon rolls sneaking in late. The recurring gripe: at 43% the old Enmore feels reduced, and several wish it hit harder.
The community says- Licorice and leather
- Rich dry finish
- But: Thin at 43%

How does Bristol Enmore Demerara Rum Enmore Still 1988 taste?
Aggregated from 30 community reviews.
Dry, leathery Enmore — licorice and pencil Most owners rate it well — a rich, dry, licorice-and-leather Enmore that survives its dilution; just don't expect the punch of a cask-strength bottling.

The nose is actually what you would expect if you look at the label. Herbal and spicy, mild wood, pleasant spice. Liquorice, cheese and tea. Soft and complex on the palate, but again true to the label. It's a shame that the old Enmores are so weak on the chest. A few percent by volume would have done the pal quite well here. Unfortunately, it was served chilled, but I still enjoyed it.

A pretty good rum also a bit thin but price to quality is pretty good. The nose is woody with fruits, spices and a light leather note. The palate is oily and woody with fruits, spices, leather and licorice. The finish is medium long and woody with spices and raisin.

Very dry, very intense for 43%, leather, pencil, marzipan. You either love it or hate it. I think it's pretty good!

Despite the reduction, the rum expresses itself after a little opening. The crème brûlée and the apple in head. A rather long finish on the apple

Würde ich blind von der nase nie als enmore vermuten, erinnert eher an Apfel Plunder und Zimt Schnecken. Aromatisch dann recht frisch, mild, floral, würzig und leicht... Ein paar % mehr hätten ihm sicher gut getan.

Rumfestival 2025 reviews Havent had Enmore still rums before, so take this review with a grain of salt. On the nose: OK, this is different. Wierd mixture licorice, plum, leather and oak. Together it smells like, for a lack of a better word, a medicinal mixture. Taste: Leather, wood, licorice/anise with a slightly dirty mouthfeel. Then you get more earthy musta notes. Minty tea notes. For this kind of palate, i would say that the abv level feels right Finish: woody and earthy notes up front and then a little bit of floral notes at the end. Hints of green apple notes that give some sweetness to palate. Quite rich and complex finish, i like it.

Reminds me of the taste of English sweets (often black in color). Not my thing at all ... I expected more!

... Enmore - drive distiller, now just a functional distillation device. Apparently the only wooden still in the world which is very popular. The Enmore rums have a flavour of ash, leather, heavy wood, which will delight especially the lovers of whiskey. And if in the traditional Guyanese way the producer adds a little molasses to the rum, you have a unique very distinctive and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favourites.
Review by Frank
Dominantly licorice-sweet. Still fruity on the finish. Very nice rum, but unfortunately too flat, too thin due to the dilution to 43%
Review by Richard Krupa
Spices, raisins, for me it lacks a bit more alcohol, it is weaker, but it is drinkable
