Habitation Velier Privateer New England Single Rum 2017
Here's the surprise: at just 3 years old, this American rum tastes more like a young bourbon than anything Caribbean, though a few tasters catch a Barbados-style edge. Expect vanilla, caramel, coconut and burnt oak with plenty of spice. Members like it for the age but many note it drinks hot and fades fast — "complex for such a young rum," as one put it.

How does Habitation Velier Privateer New England Single Rum 2017 taste?
Aggregated from 93 community reviews.
Young, bourbon-style rum, hot but flavorful Well-liked for its age, with vanilla, caramel and burnt oak in a bourbon-leaning style. The common gripes: alcohol not fully tucked in, a short fade, and it can read like plain bourbon.

Unfassbar langweiliger Rum.

I got this bottle yesterday and couldn't wait until the weekend with the tasting. This is a relatively light rum and I had expected a rum with more punch to it. The nose has bourbon on it with sweet caramel and heavy vanilla notes with a bit of coconut. The palate is dominated by caramel with a lot of spices and you can really taste the burnt molasses. The finish is long and has burnt oak and spices that linger for very long.

Then finally a privateer. This is more in the sweeter corner. Caramel and vanilla stand out on the nose and palate. The palate is quite alcoholic, however, and the alcohol could be better integrated.

This Rum is a good example of American Rum, that seems to target the home market and thus has nuances of other prevailing spirits there, like bourbon. It is nice, but not exceptional... Reminds me of Bourbon as well as some Babados Rums.

can unfortunately not completely convince 😒 smells like sawmill and has a strange resinous-floral note that seems rather intrusive. Also very woody on the palate. The 3 years of maturity are perhaps a bit short.

Tipo much bourbon cask infouey, and oak
Review by Christoph
Both in taste and finish quite salty notes mixed with cocoa / chocolate. Fruits are sought here rather in vain. Whether a "normal" bourbon would taste different in a blind tasting is a moot point.

Review by Frank

This is a very pleasant easy drinking rum. Bourbon style, lots of vanilla, fruity and sweet. Something you van serve to anybody. Nothing too special but I enjoy this one. Don't think it's worth the price though.

Not bad at all for such a young rum, it’s good, with intensity in the mouth and a start of complexity. Looking forward to tasting a more mature version…

Complex for such a young rum
Review by Adrien B
Review by BnBrt

Review by Bowel Emptier
This rum seems like it has an identity and knows what it’s doing. It’s a very alcohol and woody/ roasted flavor forward rum. It isn’t completely a one trick pony though. There’s some notes in the background behind the smoke that make you think a bit. Very enjoyable sipping rum.
