Hampden Rum Fire
Made for people who already love Hampden funk, this unaged 63% pot-still white is an ester bomb: overripe banana, pineapple, nail polish and rubber, with a vegetal olive-and-cane edge. Several tasters sip it neat and enjoy it, but the alcohol bites hard, and most agree it truly comes alive in a daiquiri. Fruit-soaked, wild, and cheap for what it does.
The community says- Huge banana esters
- Great value
- But: Fierce 63% heat

Funky banana ester bomb, best in cocktails A loved high-ester Jamaican that fans call unbeatable value. Big banana-and-solvent funk; drinkable neat for some, but the 63% heat means most reach for it in cocktails.

Nose: Esters in the form of tropical fruits (even when just opening the bottle) with mango, passion fruit, banana, maracuja, and a creamy sweetness. There's also a sour vinegar note. Overall, it feels rounded and the ABV is well integrated. Palate: Esters with the same fruits and creamy sweetness as on the nose. Then comes rubber, lacquer, and tar. Finish: Long-lasting combination of sweetness, fruit, and tar. Conclusion: Very tasty unaged rum with plenty of power.

It’s a triple distilled pure pot stills HLCF rum which gives an ester level of 500-600. The finish is rather long and tastes about the same as on the palate. I think it’s the best of the three big white Overproof’s from Jamaica, it’s funky, potent, complex and powerful without being too pungent.

Review by crazyforgoodbooze
pure it is personally too metallic, bitter and fermented, almost goes in the direction of sake... in the daiquiri again he shows his strengths with neat ester, funk and fruitiness. solid high ester white Jamaica at the price in any case!

A real Jamaican funky load of overripe fruit, bananas, pineapple, etc. In the body, the pear with citrus is the most filling. Molasses and liquorice play a major role in the rather bitter finish. If I had to call something a slasher, it would be Rum Fire😃.

#5040 15.01.2025 Enjoying some samples at home. Nose Intense, fruity, light varnish, banana, overripe, light pineapple, light ester, light anise. Palate Intense, warm, fresh, fruity, banana, light apple, berries, sugarcane, spice, light ester. Finish Long and warm, medium intense, fruity, light licorice, faint salt, banana. The empty glass has light citrus, strawberry, faint rubber and some pineapple.

8,4:On the nose, esters, glue and overripe, fermented tropical fruits like pineapple, banana bump into our nosetrils, funky, as a molasses is vegetal with an olive, mushrooms and sometimes we might think of a yoghurt. On aeration, spices like cinnamon and pepper arise, some confectionery, pastry, smoke and nuts, red fruits join the play, citrus and perhaps pear, as molasses is herbaceous. 8,4:On the palate, there is an esters bomb, the attack is intense, sweet, very fruity with overripe, fermented, smoky tropical and red fruits, perhaps raisins, so we think of a marmelade. There is a variety of confectionery notes like pastry, fruitcake, crunchy bread, marzipan, we have some spices, salt, flowery, herbaceous, vegetal molasses, slightly mineral. 8,2:The finish is long, dry, a bit bitter and very fermented, overripe fruity, smoky and peppery, salty, confectionery with crunchy bread, yeast also continue their presence..

A very pleasant surprise on the palate, with all the elements of an aged Hampden, the alcohol is very well integrated, and the finish is extremely long for a white rum. The only negative point, but not the least, hence the note, is that it doesn't go at all well with a ti-punch, where a West Indian rum is preferable.
Review by abaker-rum
A very intense rum from nose to finish. As expected, you get overripe tropical fruits mainly pineapple on the front and banana in the finish. This is mixed with esters and warmth. I am very glad we have this offering at an affordable rate.

Destilleriebesuch Hampden Estate September 2025.
Review by Fasen
The expression of Hampden's esters in all its splendor.a feeling of overripe fruit brandy (Tropical / Red / Pear / Mirabelle) with a hint of lemon, all filled with very empyreumatic esters (Copper / Smoke / Rubber / Vinegar).the whole is spicy (Clove / Nutmeg / Pepper) and rather vegetable (Hay / Green / Olive). I also find a subtle and elegant note of "perfume".in short, a quality-price ratio that really defies any competition, if you like Hampden, it is a keel to have permanently in its bar.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A rum that shows the full potential of an unaged Jamaican rum. The Jamaican funk oscillates between exotic fruits, floral aromas and phenolic notes, with a touch of iodine. On the palate, the rum is slightly spicier and saltier, while keeping the typical funky frame. There are also notes of pear and brine. The finish extends the taste experience with metallic and dry notes. A powerful and aromatic rum that would be wonderful in a supercharged cocktail.
Review by Lutz Lungershausen
Pleasantly mild mineral, funky-fruity nose, 63% alcohol dominates the fruit flavors on the palate. The finish also leaves rather sharp, hard impressions. Conclusion: as an overproof it is an exciting ingredient for funky mixers, less so for drinking straight. I was lucky enough to try it for the first time directly at the Hampden Estate in Jamaica - it played out its aromas better in the tropical warmth. Incidentally, it was communicated verbally that the Fire Overproof rum contains 470 g/hl of ester, which may only have referred to the batch currently on offer.

Review by Jean Louisss
What to say... A rum of this quality for this price is just incredible! All the markers of the hampden distillery are present here, this bottle has nothing to envy to bottles worth 2 or 3 times its price. A must for the Jamaican amateurs.
Review by TheJackDrop

A bomb in cocktail. In a grogue it's really not bad either.

Banana Juice, esters, sweet chilli, red peppers. WOW what a great drink, the value is incredible for 30+ euros.
Review by Torsten vom Endt
The name says it all. Tasted neat, the rum fully met my expectations. One sip is fruity and fermented, the next is subtly sweet. The smell of freshly mown grass makes you long for next summer. The price-performance ratio is absolutely okay. The high alcohol content doesn't come through as much as you might think, which brings with it a certain risk in terms of the amount drunk. My next tasting will be the Ti- Punch!!!!

A daiquiri of the dirty kind from the bottle.
Review by Serge
Another end of the year attempt to taste all the unrated rums that are still in the cupboard. And which one goes better with New Year's Eve than this one 😂 However, it is more of a real firework in a daiquiri or in cocktails in general. It can also be drunk neat, but I usually go for the Clairin or Savanna. Beautifully fermented, lots of fruit and, in my opinion, the best of the standard white Jamaican overproofs.
Review by Lukas Jäger
This is a bottling you just have to know: Hampden power hidden behind a strange label, which now scjon stands for itself. As a Hampden fan, you should have tried the Fire in any case, he delivers puristic Hampden character, without the wood was allowed to have a say. Pure drinkable, it develops its full potential in drinks, especially the Daiquiri. For me, the undefeated number one for this, provides an incredibly drinkable overall result. Only pure it has to admit defeat to the Rivers and thus its strongest competitor!

Hampden, legendarni jamajska destilerka, ktera krome rumu produkuje take alkohol do parfemu. Ve vsech rumech z teto destilerky ucitite divoke estery, po kterych cely vas organizmus nasakne vuni zluteho tropickeho ovoce - manga, papaji, anansu, broskvi. Jeden z rumu, ktere "must try before die"

A good example to discover what ester molecules can produce for flavors. Hampden's medium ester skins are the most complex in terms of ester diversity and therefore the most interesting for me, even if they sometimes produce a musty and furry taste in the mouth.
Review by Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪
The nose is damn funky pulling on ripe fruits (pineapple-fermented banana) with notes of freshly cut herbs. It's very vegetal on the olive. This nose is incredible! In the mouth it is hot, too hot, it burns! There are some fruity notes from the nose (banana, pineapple and passion fruit), peppery and smoky. Personally, I don't find any gustatory interest in the mouth despite a nice length! I will try to test it soon with fresh fruit juices ... or as an aromatic booster with another rum in cocktail to give more punch.
Review by Tom Buteneers
Rotten fruits, olives, chemical glue like stuff… and it gets you drunk like a m*therf*cker, what’s not to like? 😅
Review by Decky Hicks Doughty
The fruit hits you first from the nose. Juicy plum, strawberry, pear, so much fruit, all swimming in sugarcane juice. The fruit doesn't let up on the palate. Blueberries, pineapple. Some mineral notes. The finish is short. The berries and mineral notes linger for a shirt while. A great overproof. A little more pricey than the other distillery offerings but you get what you pay for.

Great rum and very potent. Bananas and mangoes on the nose along with a lot of esters and solvent. Fruit continues on the palate and packs a solid punch. Very warm mouth feel. Long finish with black pepper tea and caramel flavours. Fantastic value for money.

A white rum that leaves no one indifferent for its explosive nose and mouthfeel. An aromatic cocktail bomb. My favorite cocktail: the Tropical Faya 3cl fire rum 3cl Aperol 4cl pineapple juice 3cl lime juice 2cl passion fruit syrup 1 dash Angostura bitter A real treat!
Review by Vincent D
Typical Jamaican rum aroma, although you can also immediately smell the cane and alcohol. First citrus fruits on the palate, then very quickly the intensity of alcohol, sugar and fruit. Nice, but too strong for me.

Hight Ester unripened. Well suited for cocktails.

This is my second favorite Jamaican overproof after W&N. I prefer the HLCF which tames the industrial notes. I drink this neat and with lime or maracuja. I will rebuy.
Review by Rick Meyer
Crazy stuff! Hard to explain but it’s incredible! Much more viscous than the Clairin’s from Haiti … but with a delicious fruity funk. Edit: The second bottle I bought was way different in nose and taste. It tasted like a Clairin. Much more earthy and vegetal. Not fruity at all. I did not like it. Unreal how different it was. Maybe they have a quality control issue … who knows.
Review by thomas fraboulet
Really funky, do not put too much it's overpowering the drink. I did not enjoy "Wray"&Ting version, I find it hard to balance in cocktails except in a Rhum Firewalker, Campari helps to tame Rum Fire and bring balance.
Review by Benjamin Perez
A good white rum to be drunk dry preferably but also interesting in ti-punch. A good value for money. Intense and powerful white rum! A Rum for a prepared palate used to intensity.
Review by John Coffey
Very or too powerful in the mouth. A nice nose on the surface that glimpses bcp se watts.. Nice length but product to use for cocktails I think!

This is for batch L243. Batch L216 is pretty similar to this. Batch L221 has much worse nose and batch L238 is somewhere in the middle of them. L243 is just delicious
Review by Ian Gilman
Fantastic overproof! I like it even more than the Wray & Nephew (which I love) because of the extra punch from the esters. Great neat and adds a ton to a cocktail.

Funky and empyreumatic to the max. A typical Hampden.

Read full review →Rum Fire is produced at the Hampden Estate distillery, established in 1753 in Treelawny, Jamaica. In Hampden tradition, the molasses undergoes a long fermentation with indigenous yeasts and with the addition of dunder (residual liquid from previous distillations). The still used is a copper Pot Still. The mark of this Rum is the HLCF which boasts an ester level above 400 g/hlpa. It should go without saying, but for the avoidance of doubt: no additives or sugars added. Prominent on the label are the blue and orange flames that recall an old Jamaican tradition of testing the strength of a distillate by setting it on fire. The flame that changes from blue to orange indicates a particularly high alcohol content. Crystal clear color, very clear and bright. The nose is super funky: esters, tropical fruit, molasses, acetone, light varnish, gasoline. Alcohol is well present but does not cover the aromatics. On the palate everything is confirmed, we find the ripe fruit (lots of fruit), acetone, spices. The finish is long and dry with a pleasant fruity, slightly smoky taste.
