Le Gus't Diamond Demerara Rum Cuffy Optimum Proof 2002
Tar, glue and smoke wrapped around roasted nuts, leather and a bit of tropical fruit — the striking thing is that this is a Diamond pot still that fools almost everyone into calling it Caroni. Aged 16 years and bottled at 60.4%, yet the alcohol sits surprisingly well thanks to some sweetness. A little air brings out apricot and spice.

How does Le Gus't Diamond Demerara Rum Cuffy Optimum Proof 2002 taste?
Aggregated from 42 community reviews.
Tarry, smoky Demerara that drinks like Caroni Deeply loved by the people who tasted it: a "Caroni-esqua guyana" that drinks tarry, smoky and oily with dark fruit. A couple wanted more smoothness, but nearly everyone was floored.

A big, heavy, earthy, spicy slap in the face. We're not on the fruit here. We're glued to the ground. It's warm and oily, smoky and woody. The sugar is there to add a touch of sweetness that's just right. It's really very good. Edit: as pleasant to smell as it is to drink. Hyper pleasant and gourmand. Requires good aeration but also a good rise in temperature. It then becomes more gourmand.

Ok, wow! Das hätte ich nicht erwartet. C’est vraiment Gus’toni. Richtig Geil, macht sehr viel Spass zu trinken. Erstaunlich süss, Alkohol dadurch sehr gut eingebunden. Ein wahrer Piratenschatz diese Flasche 🏴☠️💰🧉⚓️

Wow, what a blast. Thank you thank you thank you Vincent. I think I've found my new favorite from Diamond. I definitely need a bottle of this. Blind, I would have guessed Caroni. I'm still searching, but unfortunately, that will probably be in vain. If you get the chance, you should grab it. A true revelation.

100% Caroni in the blind tasting. Wow, really awesome!

87 points. A very Caroni like Demerara. All the markers are present in both mouth and mouth. Add a touch of caramel which gives a nice addition of underlying sweetness. This rum would probably fool many in a blind sampling. Thank you for the trade Maxime.

Haaa, the nose is coming together. This is typed on wood and spices. All encompassed by hydrocarbons and solvents. It is Caroniesquement promising and perfectly well integrated... In the mouth, it is very soft on the woody. Smoky-toasty woody even! There are plum, raisins, tobacco, mango in the background. The finish is very long on peppery with a slight astringent note. Quite a nice length, I really liked it. It's been a long time since I had plunged on this keel, phew it's good and this legend of the Caroni cask lost in Guyana makes the tasting even more crazy! No doubt about it, this Diamond wins the battle of the night!

Not quite as round as the others, a bit more tangy and here the caroni barrel also comes through more. By far not as round, yet very tasty! Compared to the others, the Bissl "craps off" in my opinion

The second heavyweight in this comparison. And after some time and a bit of sipping, my first impression is confirmed. This one is my favorite compared to the fullproof. A bit more accessible right away, the lovely apricot accompanies the similarly funky profile here until the end. The lower alcohol content is really a good choice here. Great rum that, like its brother, lingers for a while. And once again, I sadly wonder why you can’t buy a bottle of this anymore. 🙈 Try it if you get the chance!

Review by Barnagricole

Top !

Caroni-esqua guyana. Very very good.
Review by Fabulon
Superbe.
Review by Alex1981
Caroni in disguise. Wonderful profile that integrates the tarry/glue/industrial notes with roasted nuts, leather and tropical fruits. Perfect harmony that shows different sides over time, long finish. Love it! Should have bought 2 more at release :(

Powerful Caroni. Wait, Demerara? How come? I miss more smoothness but very good release
