Velier Albion AN 1989

"A true unicorn," one taster called it, and the reviews back that up. This 19-year Albion Demerara from Velier is toffee, vanilla, dark chocolate and smoke, with a faint fermented-fruit and mint edge a few people tie to Savanna Grand Arôme. Full-bodied, oily, long finish, and at 62.7% the alcohol is folded in cleanly. Complex and potent — not an everyday pour.

I threw 1500 euro after this bottle last week and I don't regret it a single moment. Wow, what a rum!

A bit rougher, but more complex than the Albion 2004.

Albion meets Grande Arôme - the classic profile of vanilla, oak and toffee is complemented by a subtle note of fermented fruit and mint, which I associate directly with Savanna Grand Arômes. Unique combination at the highest level.

Incredible experience. Nose 95 points, taste points. Very exciting combination of caramelized fruits, spices, dark chocolate and smoke. In direct comparison to the Albion from El dorado, which is of course a little younger, I didn't think it was worth 30 times as much...
