CDI Hampden Jamaica (Bottled for Hongkong) HGML 1983

Hampden fans who want the funk without the wild-animal edge will feel at home here. This 33-year continental HGML is fruity — overripe pineapple, banana, mango — with the classic ester, glue and solvent, but a few tasters call it "a gentleman under the Hampdens": mild, remarkably un-oaky, alcohol fully integrated. One reviewer found the smoky, briny-olive side a touch much, and several rate the RA 1983 sibling slightly higher.

Very rare bottling made only for Hong Kong.More awesome on the palate than on the nose for me.Better than the Kill Devil 1983 HD, but for me slightly behind the RA 1983 HD.Thanks Artur for the opportunity to taste it.

Had a wonderful tasting event yesterday with only good CDI rums. This one is the last one of the six. This is a VERY rare bottle as it was originally made for the Hong Kong Market. Even the bottle is out of this world. No wonder this one was saved for last as I'm pretty sure I will never taste this one again unless I go visit Hong Kong and find a bar that has it. A true Hampden rum and it's so full of funk that every Jamaican would start dancing just smelling it. A true masterpiece from CDI that I would have loved to have in my collection.

Much more delicate than the RA. Great bottling.

Intense with rich fruity notes (filled pinapple), a balanced amount of wood and some smokey notes. Not quite on par with the RA bottling, yet still very nice. The CdI comes with more wood but lacks a bit in intensity and fruitiness comparatively.

This is the first continentally aged Hampden for me (for me, only! ;-)) being on par with my beloved No.1 of the tropically aged Hampdens (being the Habitation Velier HLCF 2010/2016). This 33 year old CDI is the most balanced Hampden I ever have tasted, yet. Yes, it is a gentleman under the Hampdens, very mild and with well integrated alcohol. So, no, it is not a wild animal which I normally prefer among the Jamaican rums. No, it belongs to the mild family, so it is difficult to compare it with the wild tropically aged Hampdens, it would be like comparing pears to apples. Nevermind, within the group of about 30 years old continentally aged Hampdens, this one here is extremely well balanced. There are no grassy or spicy notes that would disturb my preferred fruity style. There is a hint of grass in the nose but very restrained and not on the palate. So, it is fruity and better balanced than, e.g., the Artesanal HGML 1989. And the alcohol is absolutely perfectly integrated, you do not feel or taste it at all. I can only say, "wow" and "well done", Compagnie des Indes! A really great Hampden!

Mir ist der rauchige Part etwas too much. Beeindruckend langer, öliger und adstringenter Abgang jedoch! Ich glaube der 1983er Hampden von Rum artesanal gefällt mir hier deutlich besser aber der Direktvergleich fehlt aktuell.

Astringent monster. There is so much going on at the end. It is impressive how little woody the rum is. A great balance of barrel ageing and esters. A great hgml that deserves the top position
