CDI Foursquare Barbados (Bottled for Germany) 1999

"So much coconut" is the line that keeps coming back, and it defines this single-cask Foursquare — one taster says an intensity of coconut he hadn't found in any other. Around it sit banana, vanilla and milk chocolate, dry and only lightly sweet, with 18 years of oak that stays surprisingly restrained. Easy sipping at 50%, textbook Barbados DNA.

The community says
  • Big coconut note
  • Restrained oak
  • But: Wants more kick

How does CDI Foursquare Barbados (Bottled for Germany) 1999 taste?

Aggregated from 17 community reviews.

Coconut-heavy dry Foursquare, easy 18-year sipper Well-liked as an unfussy, coconut-forward Foursquare. The recurring quibble: a few wish it had more kick or complexity to match the age, but most find it very easy to sip.

definitely one of the better real old Four Squares out there, could have a few % more to gain the complexity it lacks a bit but is a really nice uncomplicated sipper that is not too woody despite 18y. Really nice Foursquare DNA of coconut, banana and milk chocolate. I like it very much.

A complex and arguably typical Barbados rum with many dry aromas. Despite its advanced age, however, it lacks something in terms of taste that kicks me off. Lots of dried fruit, cask and leather alone are not enough, but I'm not a fan of Barbados either!

Nose: Coconut and vanilla dominate over slightly woody and spicy notes. Palate: The aromas of the nose are confirmed, with the addition of banana. Finish: The spice remains Conclusion: Typical profile for Barbados. But an intensity of coconut that I have not yet found in a single cask is pleasing. Easy sipping. Only the price is a little off-putting.
