A.A. Baker & Co. S.p.A. Battle Axe Baker Rum

What surprises people most is how well 60% held together in a bottle this old — the alcohol sits right in, no burn where you'd expect it. Pineapple and passion fruit lead, then old smoky wood and honey roll in behind the esters. One taster would blind-guess Long Pond. A festival-table curiosity from a different era, and better than most expect.

A rum tasted at the German Rum Festival in Berlin at 2024. Tropical fruit, esters, pineapple and passion fruit, but on the other hand, old wood with lots of smoke and honey. Esters dominate on the palate, soon overtaken by smoky old wood and some fruit. The finish is long, marked by smoky wood.

It's crazy that 60% were distilled so well here at the time. Top integrated, wacky herbal note and nice mouthfeel. Would I blindly guess long Pond? Very cool number! Thanks Sebastian & Dejan!

Avg Rating 8.3/10 over 2,700 Rums

No rum is more imitated than Jamaican rum. This is the home of funk, the fruity, overripe-banana intensity that drinkers call hogo, made in the biggest pot stills outside Irish whiskey. When the rest of the Caribbean moved to the column still, Jamaica kept the pot still as its house style, and that stubbornness is exactly why its rum is so prized today.
