I write the comment only because I can not understand the bad reviews. Because the quality at this price is really impressive. First of all, alcohol is very well integrated here. Cocoa and caramel are the main characters here. In the supporting roles, coffee and tropical fruits. Unlike continental South Americans, this one is not too sweet. The pleasant sweetness pairs with a tart note, especially on the attack (cocoa and coffee). There seems to be very little sugar added here, which is really surprising given its prevalence and popularity. For Spanish style, this one is very good and the PLV is outstanding. Was able to purchase 1L for 20 euros and sometimes I like to take this as a sipper. But also very refreshing with ginger ale and lime

Price quality wise, this is a really good rum. I Lways have a bottle in my cabinet due to various reasons; for the less picky guest, pre drinking for a party or when I'm not picky myself. Of course there are better rums to be found for this price, but why making it yourself difficult if you just fancy a pleasant glass of rum and this bottle is widely available?

Solid mixing rum. It is particularly suitable for beginners or as an ingredient for high-quality cocktails. However, experienced connoisseurs may find it lacking in depth and complexity. A reliable classic that does not disappoint, but also offers nothing exciting.

6,5:The nose is both sweet and rather imposing. It's a light rum in terms of aroma, but not in terms of power. The sugar softens a rather dry, peppery woodiness, along with a few notes of fermentation that seem to have come back from afar even light smokiness/tobacco. Aeration brings out sweet fruits, coffee that melt into a grenadine syrup that is nonetheless rather powerful and floral. 6:The palate is quite round and simple, with caramel and vanilla. The alcohol warms the taste buds and awakens a dark coffee. 6:The finish is rather sweet, short, but tickled by hints of pepper and slightly metallic alcohol..

Fairly light color, caramel and vanilla on the nose, with a pleasant hint of orange. The palate is more woody than the nose, with a dilution and lack of amplitude that take away points. The finish is fairly short, but a note of bitter caramel lingers long enough. A rum that should be very pleasant for mixology.

surprisingly fruity and also a little sweet, didn't expect that. didn't think of this as a sipping rum, but it's actually pretty good! Very nice in a Rum and Coke. I think the price is ok, but not outstanding.

Edit: A good rum for mixing in terms of price/performance ratio. In my opinion, it can also be drunk neat because it doesn't taste so overly artificial. A good starter rum for complete newcomers to provide a gentle introduction to the world of rum. For me, it's one of my favorites in the CubaLibre. I find it just so good straight.

The better Havana for mixing and possibly also for drinking neat. Havana is generally a somewhat more expensive brand and there are good alternatives that are somewhat cheaper, but not necessarily available in the supermarket.

07.2024 First impression: full-bodied, interesting arc between orange fruit and wood. Nose: wood, vanilla, orange, spicy, very round. Palate: the alcohol bites first before softer and spicier notes of oak, vanilla, tobacco and citrus spread out. Finish: extension of the palate impressions to which chocolate is now added. Overall impression: I prefer Jamaicans for pure sipping, but I still like the HC7 mainly because of its fair price-pleasure ratio. I will therefore continue to use it for mixing in order to incorporate an unpretentious rum flavor. <2018 I remember that the wood was too present for me at the first tasting

I still had this one from my old rum and Coke days. Drink it neat? Yes, you can, but if you already have other rums in your collection, then it's only good as a mixer. I think it's okay. Better than the 3, but still far from memorable.

One of the classics on the rum shelf. Quite appealing on the nose with caramel, wood and spices. On the palate you are greeted with a lively taste followed by wood and vanilla. I don't like it neat, but I always like it mixed with cola.

Compared to the Havana Especial the nose has a little fruit in the background. Not much, but it's there. Lots more wood though and a note of tobacco. The palette is very woody. Lots of tannins and tobacco too. But there's some caramel to help balance it out. The finish keeps the tannins and tobacco from the palette but there's also some dark chocolate. Overall I prefer this to the Especial because it's a bit more interesting. Though it's not by much and it's not something I would buy again. Just too woody.

HC7 was my first honest attempt at drinking rum, and the gateway to an obsession with ron cubano. It's funny how those first few bottles were emptied before I'd started to appreciate and identify the profile of a rum. Initially, my inexperience meant I'd force this down, convinced it needed ice! The profile seems more fleshed out now, and I find it a delicious sipper, though it would earn much higher praise if it had a longer, more satisfying finish (the reason I prefer the Legendario Ron Añejo - a lasting impression matters). On the nose and in the mouth initially, it's gorgeous. It just tapers off too quickly, demanding to be sipped quickly. So, it's extremely rewarding to return to a classic and find it fulfils its promise. It fully justifies it's awkward middle child status in the Havana Club range - sip or mix, it's a reasonably priced must-have for the cupboard.

After revisiting this, I do appreciate it more for the style it is. This is not the style I generally reach for, and would pick up a longer aged Appleton for a “smooth” experience, but for the price it is a very nice rum and emblematic of its genre.

Tremendous leap from the 5 to the 7. Concise wood, dark caramel, vanilla, tobacco, leather. Massive what these 2 years make up here.Pur also enormously rounder - the strange, sharp edge in the last third is rounded here, instead's smooth from one roast flavor in's next. Really good - but I just still can not do anything with this characteristic Cuban note.

Caramel and coconut. Some florals, a little oak. Dark golden pour. A little vanilla, rotten orange. Overall this is pretty smooth and pleasant. Had a glass of this at an OG pub in hometown Sherwood Park.

Pur und auf Eis mild, Geschmack mMn. gut passend zu Zigarre / Rauchen / (Zigarren-Liquid) Vapen. Seit > 10 Jahren mein Standard für Cuba Libre / Rum Cola (Zero) und bleibt es wohl auch nachdem ich zuletzt sehr viele Alternativen probiert habe. Ebenfalls gut als Rum Mule / Ginger Beer. This is pretty decent for the price. Straightforward and quite balanced. Nose is kind of nondescript- vanilla and caramel ish. It’s rum. Flavour is similar. It’s not much of anything but it is pleasant. I feel like this is a great mixer. Some vanilla and woody notes, nothing extravagant, and decently balanced. I left my glass for around an hour while I ate supper and when I came back there were more distinctive tobacco notes I like, especially on the nose.

Smell of caramel, taste is smokey, with caramel, vanilla and oak. It is on the sweet side but without added sugar, so only after your palate is cleansed from the usual sugar bombs you can appreciate this rum. Sugar is what appeals to all of us in the beginning but as you progress in rum world and educate yourself you can start to take in aromas which are not the result of added sugar, and this makes it an above-average rum in my book because almost everything else in that price range (and quite higher) is with added sugar. It's the firdt decent rum I had, so it's my standard rum to which I compare all other rums. It's a good all-arrounder and good for neat drinking as well. Also, I can't really understand why, for example, Doorly's 5 is rated a bit higher than this one, because they have similar taste profiles, but Doorly's 5 has very very short finish, whereas with HC7 taste in your mouth stays with you much longer, which is a huge advantage in my book. Price 30€.

Riecht sehr gut finde ich, ist vom Geschmack her jetzt keine Offenbarung aber in Ordnung. Finde ihn in der Preisklasse jetzt nicht verkehrt, vor allem wenn man ihn um die 20€ bekommt. Ist jetzt natürlich auch nichts wo man großartige Tiefe erwarten sollte aber, wie gesagt, geht schon klar für den Preis und zum Mixen sowieso.

Not great for sipping. Pretty good if boring nose, very plain taste. Watermelon rum with alcoholic sting. Imo very overrated; yes, it is cheap, but it is quite lacking. There are better options out there.

Tatsächlich nicht schlecht. Wenn man bedenkt daß es den Havana Club 7 años eigentlich überall gibt und das Preis/Leistung nicht so schlecht sind ist er wirklich angenehm. Das holzige und Vanillige ziehen sich durch Geruch und Geschmack. Und bei dem Preis nicht zu schade zum mixen.
