Ron Zacapa Edición Negra
Zacapa fans who want the familiar sweet caramel base with a smoky, roasted twist are the target here. Expect dark chocolate, coffee, toffee and charred oak from the whisky-cask influence, over the usual soft sweetness. Several tasters find the smoke and tobacco divisive, and a few call the 43% a touch weak. Best if you specifically want a dessert-style rum with an ashy edge.

Leicht alkohollastig. Keine Nennenswerte Frucht, keine Gewürze. Sehr eindimensional

22.10.2025 Retasting while listening to some nice Trance Tracks. ------------------ This is an OK release with nice fruits and also pretty sweet palate. Wood and ABV pretty well integrated with the spices, caramel, orange and some chocolate. The finish is medium long and also pretty sweet. Price to quality is OK.
Review by Tim
Very similar to the normal Zacapa on the nose (caramel, fruit), except that smoky and toasty flavors are more represented. In the mouth, the smoke and tobacco then comes through very strongly, which is why drinking becomes a spicy experience. Must like, I do not find it all too good. Price much too expensive! Positive to mention are in any case the chocolate and roasted flavors, which are very pleasant in combination with caramel.
Review by Nicofr
An all-purpose rum, rather sweet with notes of caramel and smoked wood. This special edition bears a striking resemblance to the original, and the quality-price ratio is correspondingly lower. For me, it would have deserved a few degrees more to be better.

a bit alcoholic and a bit spicy finale. harder than the Zacapa 23 solera
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Aromatically good and not too sweet but the smoky just doesn't fit in here.... And the alcohol is strangely not well integrated.
Review by Oliver
Rusty and pleasing. Nice rum for sweet rum lovers. Price-enjoyment ratio rather moderate.

Edición Negra is a rich, dessert‑style rum that introduces a distinctive smoky twist to the usual Zacapa profile. It blends caramelized plums, dark chocolate, and coffee with pronounced charred oak and spice, all finishing long and smooth. Ideal for those who enjoy a more intense, barrel-forward experience compared to Zacapa 23.

Great Smokey flavor

Not too bad, but a bit weak at 43% ABV. 260109: Many many years since last tasting, but well… as said very weak and like a berry juice without the berry part 😆

Sehr süß, sirupartig. Erinnert mich an Weihnachten.

Didn’t like it much. It was a good rum, but not my thing. To much smoke and tabac for my taste.

Advent Calendar for my brother 2025 Nice burnt and coffee notes.

Compliments of RumX. As a fan of Zacapa rums I like it. The rum has a strong smell and also taste. Honestly I did not note any dark chocolate, but I did feel thr spice as well as the woody flavour from oak. I would recommend it as a next step for rum beginners.

Review by Spagz
Good Ron. Seems to separate on the palate, almost has different "upstairs & downstairs" flavor profiles in the mouth. One being bold and woody and the other spicy.

Note: This review was on first opening of bottle. I will revisit this in a month once the rum has had a chance to breath. On The Rocks: On the nose slight bitterness with some mild floral notes. Taste is mildly bitter with charred oak and spices. Finish is medium with the charred and bitterness trailing off. Starting to develop some complexity but not quite there yet. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose slight spices and fruit. Taste is a little sweeter with more pronounced charred oak in the background. The finish fades fast but does not leave any bitterness lingering.

One of the five retirement rums from a buddy. I get a little of the smoky flavor that is described on the bottle box. Not sure about the volcanic inspiration, but I do like it, and there was only a little afterburn for me.
