Mezan DDL Guyana 2007
Opinion lands around good-but-not-great here. It's a dark, chocolate-and-prune Demerara — one taster calls it "sweet without being sweet," with dried fruit, cocoa, leather and old wood. The common gripe: at 58% the alcohol pokes through, and a few find it a touch young or one-note. Give it air or a drop of water and it opens up.

How does Mezan DDL Guyana 2007 taste?
Aggregated from 26 community reviews.
Dark, chocolatey Demerara, needs air and water Most enjoy the dark chocolate, prune and old-wood profile, but the 58% ABV feels loose to several tasters and a few call it a bit young or one-dimensional. Rest it or add water.

Wow, a great Demerara. The nose is predominantly chocolate, but malt and cask are also recognizable. The palate is also predominantly chocolate (dark), but cocoa and wood are also recognizable. Alcohol super integrated, pleasing.

Nice Guyana profile, but a bit too one-sided and not very complex for me.

Fair warning, you have to rest this rum or the ABV will bite your nose and palate. Once rested it is a pretty good especially considering the price tag. The nose is fruity with vanilla, leather and light smoky wood. I also find a very light metallic kind of smell. The palate is fruity with chocolate, vanilla, leather and lightly roasted wood notes. The finish is very long and woody with dried fruit, vanilla and wet tobacco.

Perhaps a little young, unbalanced.

Pas ma came. +0.2 avec 3 gouttes d'eau

A very good rum with a strong punch to prunes and raisins - delicious! Caramel tones and vanilla harmonize well. Distinct consistency between smell and taste. Tannins are added on the finish. The only drawback: the alcohol is very present - with a few drops of water, the rum gains even more complexity.

Unfortunately, the alcohol is not so well integrated. It didn't really convince me at the second tasting either.

Red fruit dominated demerara. Sweet without being sweet. Perfect double cask aging performance.
