Hampden Kill Devil (The Whisky Barrel) C<>H 2007
People already hooked on high-ester Hampden are the crowd here. At 62.5% cask strength, it hits with soured pineapple, banana, glue and solvent, a little vanilla and young oak underneath. One member calls it a "really good young Hampden," and most agree the alcohol is surprisingly well tucked in. Loud, oily and long — one taster warns everything after it tastes flat.

How does Hampden Kill Devil (The Whisky Barrel) C<>H 2007 taste?
Aggregated from 40 community reviews.
Loud, fruity cask-strength Hampden funk Near-universally loved by ester fans: grilled pineapple, varnish and a huge fruity finish. Not an everyday pour, and a touch too sour and acidic for a few tasters.

Young and wild on the nose. Very horny in the mouth. Wonderful combination of flavors. Top.

Yet another great release from this bottler. They have done well on many releases with their finishes on many desstillers. The nose is fruity with varnish and light wood, vanilla and iodine. The palate is intense and fruity with spices and wood. Leave to rest for all the flavours to be released. You can also add a few drops of water. The finish is very long and fruity with wood and spices. Lovely rum and the price to quality is very good.

Super. Once again grilled pineapple deluxe. Slightly alcoholic on the nose. Massive ester notes on the palate. The alcohol is no longer so noticeable for me here, and that at over 60% alc. A sweet cherry is added to the grilled pineapple both on the nose and on the palate. Very tasty. In direct comparison with other high-ester Hampdens, I had to downgrade the 2007 somewhat (-2).

Volle Ladung Ester!

How this rum blew me away on first contact! A nose to sink into, incredibly intense and aggressive and yet harmonious and clear: pineapple and almond croissant are the leading notes. These are joined by fermented tropical fruits and varnish and sweet glue. In the mouth and finish, the slightly roasted pineapple, noticeable acidity and the taste of artificial cherry candy continue to dominate. The rum lingers in my mouth for minutes. Not for every day, but the full beauty of high-ester rum! Unfortunately, every other rum tastes bland afterwards.

Un Hampden au très bon rapport qualité-prix. Un peu trop aigre et acide à mon goût mais ça reste super agréable.

Outrageously vibrant, radiant Hampden at its best

Immediately enormous fruitiness on the nose of soured pineapple, banana and lots of ester. Initially still some alcohol, but subsiding.... On the palate first a sweetness, then quite a lot of ester, solvent and fruit (pineapple)! terrific! Gradually some young wood, vanilla, maybe anise comes out! The longer it lingers in the mouth, it becomes slightly astringent! The high alcohol content is super integrated. This also continues in the medium-long finish!Hammer..., this is exactly mine!

Minimally less fruit than the sister barrel, but the alcohol is a tick better integrated. Bomb stuff
