A.F.D. Ron Barceló Añejo
Anyone building a home bar on a budget or mixing rum-and-cola will get the most out of this one. Light caramel, coffee, vanilla and toffee, with a woody edge and alcohol that isn't fully tucked away. Neat it's thin and a bit hot; most members reach for it as a mixer. A few find it pleasant enough chilled, but nobody's calling it a sipper.

How does A.F.D. Ron Barceló Añejo taste?
Aggregated from 60 community reviews.
Everyday mixer, thin and hot neat Middle-of-the-road Dominican rum most people keep for cola and cocktails. Fine mixed, thin and alcoholic neat. A few say it's drinkable chilled, but complexity isn't the point here.

I bought it to mix with cola and was absolutely convinced. Compared to the alternatives here in Spain, which are also somewhat cheaper, such as Negrita, much better. Hardly alcoholic and pleasantly sweet barrel aromas.

Recht scharf… kann man trinken. Eher aber was zum mischen

What can you expect from a Chupito shot of rum at a Flamenco competition in Seville? I've got the answer: not much! A vague smell of caramel, coffee, a few spices behind some poorly integrated alcohol and a liquid/watery appearance. In short, it was all about respecting tradition.

Le goût se révèle seulement lorsqu'il est mélangé avec un soft.

Quite pleasant, you can even sip it solo. Not very complex but pleasant. Delicate sweetness, caramel, chocolate, mocha coffee, vanilla notes. Short but pleasant finish, coffee, vanilla and peppery notes. Great for drinks.

Had it with coke and it is fairly pleasant. Had it neat to get a better feel for the rum and it is ok. Fairly sweet with notes of caramel and toffee but not excessively so. There are also wood, dried dates and dark chocolate notes which are nice.

Very middle of the road. None offensive. Ideal for a bar that need to hit price points but I'd avoid for the home bar.

Not much to look into it as a sipper, but get's the job done as a mixer.

Rhum à cocktail. Très peu de saveurs en bouche si ce n'est son côté épicé.
Review by El Brettford Esq.
Powerful muted fume smell, honestly reminded me of a paint thinner at first sniff I once used, I did not find it pleasurable. Taste will be fine with a flavoured mix, but unremarkable on its own.

The sweetness that it promises on the nose does not translate to the taste. I would not recommend this as a sipping rum and the palate is mostly alcoholic, oily and woody.
