Diplomático Single Vintage 2005
Here's the twist: this is a Diplomático that leans less sweet than the brand's usual lineup. The 2005 vintage is all sherry-cask influence — red fruit, cherry, raisins, marzipan and vanilla fudge over gentle oak. The nose is soft and understated, then the palate opens up busy, almost "over balanced" as one taster put it. Whisky and sherry fans tend to click with this one.

Getting ready for a really tough marathon with friends! A little test of these famous vintage diplomaticos. Very surprisingly, they're really more fruity and well-balanced. Less dark, fatty and sweet than the basic ones. A good time, even if it's a bit simple and too straightforward to go above 8.

Tasted it together with my last glass from a 2004 and I think it’s slightly better than that one cause it’s not as sweet as the 2004 but on the other hand it’s also feels thinner. The fragrance is quite complex with clear barrel character, hints of muscovado sugar, raisins, arrack, marzipan, dark chocolate, orange and vanilla. In mouth and palate it’s also complex with some sweetness and clear barrel character, hints of raisins, muscovado sugar, orange, chocolate, arrack, nuts, cinnamon, Sherry and vanilla fudge. The finish is medium long and tastes more or less the same.

The latest release of the single vintage. A bit more alcohol burn than the previous versions and also a bit sweeter. The sherry really kind of dominates this rum and I think whisky lovers would like it as well. Well balanced, oaky and sweet and it may make you want to go for seconds. My favourite is still the 1997 release.

This rum starts with a ton of red fruit, cherry, and dried fruit on the sweet nose. You can easily pick up the sherry on the nose and palate. The palate has a sense of sweetness with burnt sugar and nougat, as well as some wood. The finish is medium in length with a sweet and slightly medicinal quality to it.

A Diplomatico I tasted at a tasting at my parents place in 2021. First of the "year single vintage" from the company, I've tried. I sense a nose of coffee, and I found some notes of chocolate, vanilla and fruits. Good price to quality ratio, when it was released

Nose is very soft and subtle and does not prepare you for the taste on the pallet. A lot going on in this rum. Almost over balanced, as all the flavious work so well together it becomes challenging to separate. A very good sipping rum to get to know over many sessions.

Very nice, smooth with a subtle fruity nose, slightly cluttered but enjoyable taste, with a smooth finish that ends a bit too soon. A very good sipping rum. Good value.

Vanilla and coconut, caramel. Sherry. Almond but lighter than the 2007. Light cherry. Pours dark golden. A fair dose of pepper on this one, comes of spicier than 2007. Oak a little more subdued, but less sweet also than 2007. Some plum. Thick on the tongue. Sample thanks to Yaro.

Im April 2022 besuchte ich mit meinem Freund Enrico in Essen bei Cigarren Baydar & Sahin GmbH ein Rum-Tasting von Botucal. Der Brand Ambassador Peter S. hat uns toll durch den Abend geführt. Gute Zigarren und ein sehr schmackhaftes Buffet rundeten den tollen Abend ab. Seitdem weiß ich den Stoff von BOTUCAL sehr zu schätzen.

I know this rum is sweetened and you know what? Who cares. I picked this bottle up and knew what I was getting into. Would I reach for this on a regular basis? No. Is this something I would share with people who don’t sup rum neat? Absolutely. Rums like this, I see are stepping stones for people to find other rums. And if they stay here, then the they’re drinking a lovely rum. It’s lite, it’s sweeter, it’s palatable for most of drinkers. Tasting notes: coffee, raisin, marzipan, vanilla, butterscotch
