Cadenhead's Long Pond Green Label 1974

For experienced palates: a long-aged Long Pond that leans more on old oak than classic Jamaican funk. Expect oily texture, deep wood, dark spice and restrained pineapple/banana. A contemplative, historic sipper praised for balance and intensity by RumX members.

I had a lot of expectations for this bottle but was a bit disappointed.... Very distant flavor profile compared to all the long ponds I have tasted and in my opinion it lacks some intensity! Very particular profile!

Old part. And very woody. Unfortunately too old and too woody. Could certainly have done with 5 years less in the barrel. At the same time also quite alcoholic without many other notes. Too bad, I had expected a great rum based on the statistics.

Tastin evening with Dr. Django (Jamaica): This Cadenhead's is something special... but doesn't really suit my taste. I miss this fresh lightness and some funkiness. The LP is too much on the dark, spicy side... that will certainly have its fans, but not me

A few notes I have on this tasting. Nice colour and oily on the palate. Well balanced and the empty glass reveals very clear notes after a while.

History in bottles, tasted several times and a great drop to enjoy. However, my expectations the first time were higher than what I found in the glass. Once you've come to terms with that, it's really enjoyable. Not an over-the-top rum, which you might think given its age and bottler. The Jamaican origin is rather discreet, the focus is on the mature aromas and the wonderful intensity and balance of the rum. However, it is rather one-dimensional and therefore not a meditation rum, but an ingenious sipper. For €100-150 a bottle, it would be a brilliant drop to have fun with.

Nice nose on this old longpond but i Think to old, the age made i to much “wet wood” in the taste and some bad notes on the palate made the score a little lower

Well, older certainly is not always better. This is really old wood in the nose and barely any ester. Wood soup is really stating its arrival. Which is confirmed after tasting. it is very woody and really barely anything else. too thin and too few merits. Mindblowing if you see the prices...
