I just love this rum so I have ordered yet another backup bottle. This is a pretty well blended and also well balanced rum from Black Tot. Spicy bit well balanced with the other elements and you barely get a burn from the proof once rested for 15 minutes. The dominant rum in this blend is clearly the one from Guyana. You only get hints of the ones from Jamaica and Barbados. For the price a pretty good rum.

Drank on its own, a very fine Navy rum with a nose of grenadine syrup, vanilla, leather, a hint of vegetal and brown sugar. Complex and deep on the palate. Delicious length. Drank in comparison with Velier's Navy Rum RX26, it loses a few points. It's less flavorful and more monolithic. You really have to go for the Caroni aromas; the Demerara is quite dominant. A lovely long finish and, at the very end, the grenadine syrup reappears. Thank you Dr. Django for the sample.

Wow! Both my nose and mouth loves this rum 😍 really complex and balanced. Just that they specify the percentage of all rums blended are an extra plus. - Just got my own bottle and the verdict is the same this time, an amazing rum 😍 - Just opened my second bottle and wow what a difference when A/B testing them. This rum really need to be gased. (Don’t forget that!) - (2023) still up there among the best ones. - Today comparing with other Black Tots and this rum is miles ahead. - New day: Agree with the above and also A/B tasted another new bottle to an old bottle and there is a HUGE difference. GAS THIS BOTTLE and double seel the cork if you have it. - Long time no see, stille awesome - 251024: Long time since last time. Timpa made me blind taste my own bottle and this is really really good despite the “wet dog” smell of it, that I had not really defined as such before.

A very complex, multi-layered rum that is soft and pleasantly captivating! I like this fine variety of dried fruit, chocolate flavors and spice. Excellent for a relaxed evening! A very good blend Edi: Up 0.1 points in the navy tasting.

Edit: of all the Black Tot I've tried, this is the best. Very well-balanced rum, now I'm annoyed that I didn't buy it when it was still reasonably priced. Very drinkable.

Unbelievable nose! "Dark", fruity-spicy with a hint of eucalyptus. Does the Hampden come through there?On the palate, it doesn't quite match the nose, but is still super tasty. Great mouthfeel!Makes me look out for more Black Tot Rums.

Very delicious, complex navy rum. Very fruity and spicy in the nose. Full complex and sweet body with notes of tropical fruits, coffe and chocolate. With a long,warm and elegant finish. Alcohol is integrated very well! Amazing blend!

the nose is the madness!incredibly fruity and sweet spicy caramelized...in the taste then clearly spicier than in the nose and rather dark chocolate with cassis, creamy cappuccino tobacco and date, in the finish some flambé banana, bitter mocha and allspice and nutmeg and discreetly medicinal notes. The Jamaica share comes through especially neat.nice navy blend!

A great strong slightly fruity rum. I really like the series very much. The smell as well as the taste are very intense. The alcohol was nicely integrated. This is one of my absolute favorite rums with a nice recognition value. Fortunately, I have 2 bottles of it.

Be sure to let the rum stand a few minutes before tasting. Like a good red wine. The more air he gets the better he becomesIn the smell really like a caramel candy.I'm taste I find he has a little bit too much wood influence.The alcohol is cleanly integrated and the taste is very intense.Definitely recommended

A wonderful blend. Very complex. Beautiful soft notes of vanilla, caramel and chocolate on the nose. This subsides in the taste and wonderful raisins and prunes are added. Long, warm finish. I like it very much.

Bought the last bottle at Maison du Whiskey in the Odeon district in Paris because of the overwhelming recommendations. And I have not been disappointed. What a nice rum! Caramel and chocolate nose with parts of raisin, followed by a not too sweet, complex taste of dark chocolate, fruits and caramel. The finish is long and warm with notes of malt. This bottle won‘t last long until it is finished. Definitely suitable for any day (or better evening) sipping! PS: When I bought the bottle, I tried the Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve as well. Definitely also worth buying!

Starts quite restrained and then the dark fruit notes take over. Some Smokey notes and licorice and tobacco before dark dates and currants take over which is more what I was expecting. It’s something a little bit different and in the Navy style but think I need another tasting to see if I get it and improve the score

Such an interesting blend. It’s so hard to pick notes because each time I try this I notice different nuances. Sometimes I feel like the Jamaican takes front and centre, some tastings I notice the influence of the Caroni more. All in all, this one is an example of master blending - well balanced, well integrated components that pop and sparkle at any given moment throughout the experience. It’s fun to taste this rum and see what your nose and palate is going to pick up at any moment, and for that reason I’m happy to have a bottle rather than a sample. Complex nose that I could spend so much time with. I may even enjoy the nosing more than the palate with this one. You get toasted pineapple mixing with oak, caramel, raisins, pastries, nail polish, leather, and more, but it’s never overwhelming. On the palate I feel it’s a little rounder at first, with a rush of spice, oak and some heat but with fruits, vegetal and herbal notes, chocolate, a hint of petrol all tucked in neatly behind that first rush.

In direct comparison with the Pusser's 50, the Black Tot 50 has a little more depth. On the nose, there are more red fruits and a slightly sour note, and there is also something musty. Whether this is due to the minimal proportions of 42-year-old Uitvlugt and original Navy Blend, I can't say. The Pusser's 50, on the other hand, seems a little more youthful, with a stronger accent on the caramel/vanilla notes. The finish is a little shorter than the Black Tot 50, but both are top navy rums and absolutely worthy of the special occasion.

Heavy glue aroma along with wet wood and tons of spices. Very nicely balanced. The taste is dominated by guyana, hints of hampden appear after a long time after drinking, traces of caroni unfortunately minimal. Price performance for me super, very pleasant drinking.

A very fruity and woody nose but really balanced. In mouth, I find the fruits less present but that it is good and balanced, moreover I find the unctuous side very nice. In summary, a very good rum for my taste!

Lots of spices, caramel, wood, some glue, dried fruit, chocolate, malt and tobacco on the nose. Subtle hints of Skeldon on the nose and really inviting, but somehow quite restrained compared to the other navy blends tasted at the same time. On the palate, it's more on the heavy/spicy side, slightly bitter and not as intense. Good rum, but a little too "lax" for me overall.

C: Dark copper I’m not a fan of blends, different was the time when I was in love with Foursquare. N: 70% of this rum comes from column-stills. I can feel it. After 10min it starts to settle, Port Mourant and Hampden enters the battle, much better nose. I get a blend of granny and red apples, strawberries and drops of acetone. Hints of anis and pineapple as well. Coffee too. Very balanced and sweet, but don’t put your nose too near the glass, the column fumes will hit your nose hard. I even get tutti frutti bubble gum. Lovely nose, light and jovial. M: Very sweet and calm. Fresh peach, lime and pineapple. Petroly, good balance between column and pot. I could drink this now and then, it’s a laid-back kind of rum. To a moment of relaxation. F: Not long.

The best black tot in my opinion. Heavy on the Demerara (which is fine by me) but well balanced and still clearly a navy. Dominant expressions: Nose: Flambéed cherry chocolate cake Mouth: Flambéed cherry chocolate cake Finish (medium long): Flambéed cherry chocolate cake Remarkable taste integration. From the start to the very end there is one single line that is upheld all the way. Unusual for a blend, as they normally pull in lots of directions. A special note must also be given for the value for money that this bottle provides. One of the very best “rhums de detente” on the market, when you just want something quality that just tastes great but isn’t too demanding either.

Very pleasant nose, with caramel and vanilla. Mouth less delicate than expected. Good, powerful, spicy, warm. But also sweet and reassuring, with dark chocolate and bitterness. Very thick texture. Very pleasant. But not as surprising as the feedback here and there. Edit: I'm raising my initial opinion. Nice length, nice dark, bitter finish. Nice blend. Thanks @Artur for the sample.

Damn near perfect navy Some rums are just a yes, and this is one of them. Have another bottle stashed away. Delicious from the get-go but changes significantly with time. I’m a fan of all of the black tot bottles and plan to do a side-by-side with all at some point.

A very nice and very balanced, round nose. Spicy-woody-fruity. Sour-sweet like black currant, dried and sulfured raisins, with vanilla and some leather: the heart of Guyana and Trinidad. Very lightly buttery/vinegary with a touch of fruit esters, this is Jamaica! Out the back caramel, licorice and something nutty, towards chestnuts. On the palate, spiciness prevails: nutmeg, vanilla and licorice. An intense flavor development follows with some salty and acidic notes. Woody-malty, caramel and some prune and orange. Balanced and round. Top Blend!

Color: Bright red brown Smell: Smells very delicious chocolate toffee with rum raisins. At the same time rather sweet. Taste: Soft and creamy in the mouth. Spicy on the swallow with sandalwood, cocoa and toffee. Full-bodied, balanced and round with flavors of pepper and dried fruit. Delicious! Let the rum breathe for a few minutes – like a good red wine. It definitely gains with a bit of air. On the nose, it strongly reminds me of a caramel candy. On the palate, it shows intense flavor, although the wood influence is slightly dominant for my taste. The alcohol is cleanly integrated. Overall, definitely a recommendation.

Lovely blend with spice and caramel. Re-tasting this and taking some good advice from others on here about leaving it to rest in the glass for 15 mins or more. Made a massive difference, really dropped the alcohol burn that is present early after pouring.

Rückwärts probiert aufsteigend bewertet. Und das muss auch so wenn man alleine auf Komplexität und Tiefe schaut dann liegt 2020 hier klar vorn. Da lässt man das Glas wirklich gerne etwas stehen und schaut was nach ein paar Minuten schönes rauskommt. Wirklich schöner Blend der der gesamten Navy-Rum Geschichte einen schönen Tribut zollt.

Very complex and rich. A joy to drink and explore the many layers. The Guyana is dominating which is a nice thing for me, but you can find traces of many other of the sources. Alcohol of 54% is well integrated. An all night sipper that is hard to put back in the cupboard. Finish is long but not superlong.

Great Navy blend from many different countries, which scores especially with its history. The many different blended shares from different countries give the rum an exciting complexity and depth. Overall, woody-spicy notes dominate, but fruity hints can also be found. Overall, clearly better than the standard Black Death, yet here too the background story once again gives additional arguments to have this rum on the shelf.

But also fresh Foursquare paint drops, which is our predominant FS Note (another asset). Please also welcome wet wood and pencil shavings from the Port Mourant stills. The smell is kinda 'green' and vegetal too, like agave juice, aloe, bisongras, lemongrass and a piece of sour pineapple. This wind should come from Jamaica. The decryption was quite interesting we have to admit. Palate Apart from the fact that the Elixir people have really conflated everything here, this stew works very well. This ain't a bodybuilder, but definitely a very balanced and rounded athlete, who's delivering pleasant flavours like liquorice, caramel, pineapple juice, limes, mangos and chinese litchi. No water needed. Finish A bit short to be frank. We would've loved to talk a bit longer with Lady Liquorice.

Read full review →This is lighter and fruitier though I must say it's still reasonably "heavy". I'll be entirely honest and say this has ticked every box for me. Whether is it a faithful recreation of the rum drank pre-1970, I'm really not that bothered to be honest. It's a fantastic blended rum.
