Habitation Velier Hampden LFCH 2011
Overripe pineapple and cooked banana lead here, with glue and solvent tucked underneath rather than shouting. Being a lower-ester Hampden mark, it's the mellower, rounder side of the distillery — plenty of tropical fruit, young oak and warm spice, tropical-aged into a concentrated dram. Several tasters call it "one of my favourite Hampden" and a genuinely drinkable daily sipper despite the 60.5%.

Third tasting and still really good, actually a bit better than last tasting. I like the rubber notes at the end. ————— Fourth tasting and bumping it again, really really good.

Thanks to Johannes it was possible to make this small Birds Flight. In the race were 2xOWH, 5xLFCH (including the HV LFCH mixed) and 2xLROK. As a conclusion on my part, from LROK onwards they are more fun, the low ester fraction is fine. In my opinion, the Birds are not worth the money, but rather a collector's item. I don't really see any major differences.

Great Hampden with everything you could wish for. Lots of fermented tropical fruit. Strong estetic notes without being too overwhelming. But simply tasty. Good value for money. Clear recommendation to buy

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that produces rum as well as alcohol for perfume. In all the rums from this distillery you will taste wild esters, after which your whole organism will soak up the smell of golden tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the "must try before you die" rums
Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
Very good Hampden. Great balance between fruit/wood/spices. Not overly funky. Baked banana. Pineapple obviously. Not overripe but still on the fresh side. Pretty much flawless. Second try. Still love it.
Review by Sebastian Kornett
Nice Hampden. Nice toasty aromas. More ester than the hampden estate overproof and also drier in the finish.

Awesome part!

Delicious low ester Hampden with a great, balanced nose with plantain. Some honey and cereals too. Slightly creamy. I think the low esters benefit even more from tropical lagering than the higher ester levels already do.
Review by Eric Frechin
Review by Jeremie Edde
A very good hampden easy to access and very round. A small delicacy
Review by Thunderbird
On the nose a lot of pineapple and fermented banana flows in, the alcohol is also very noticeable In the mouth is first a sweetness and then the tingle of alcohol ! Then a slightly peppery note and young wood. It is slightly astringent ! Gradually develops a light banana flavor and some vanilla! Delicious! In the finish remains the spicy, paired with banana and vanilla.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Not an ester bomb, but well tuned. Can be drunk very pleasantly for over 60% alc. Compared to the LROK without a long wait round and for me the price-performance winner.
Review by Christoph
The Hampden profile is definitely there but the esters are just missing here.
Review by Johannes
The fruit notes are missing, but nice esters, very creamy and round.
Review by Jussi Piirainen
On the nose: Esters, glue notes with fermented note seem to dominate the profile. Under that there is some light vanilla and light citrus notes. Little bit of overripe pineapple and bananas. Taste: Warm and intense at first. Pineapple and bananas at first with some sweet honey notes. Light wood notes. Then the fruit notes mellows down a little bit and you get light glue notes mixed with esters as the dominant profile. Finish: Light woody notes, esters, spices like peppers and herbal notes in the background. Medium finish. Esters and glue notes were the dominanting notes with some tropical fruits, but the fruits were in the background.

Geruch garnicht mal so ausgeprägt, etwas Früchte alkoholisch und etwas Lösungsmittel. Geschmack dann dich deutlich intensiver.

Review by Portman
Great fruits that are wonderfully supported and rounded off by the subtle ester content. Vanilla, banana, plum... Very fresh, soft and round. Easy sipper.
Review by TheRhumhoe

29.7.2025 – Tasting after a long time :) Nose: Pineapple, banana, esters, glue, nail polish remover – everything we love :) Taste: Tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, bananas), esters, spices, glue. Finish: Medium-long, warm, honey, esters, woody
Review by Mentalo
Review by Mathieu C.
LFCH = around 200 ester --> light Rich nose, discreet solvent, fine woody, ripe fruits, brioche, raisins = refined Jamaican nose due to the low ester content, not too abrupt and marked as in the C<>HMouth a bit more disappointing, a bit acidic, less richLong and greedy finish
Review by lars
Review by kondgab
A classic Hampden release, featuring a lower ester mark but still full of tropical character—banana, pineapple, papaya, and a hint of vanilla. Alcohol is present and punchy, so it’s best to let it rest a while.

Toller Low Ester Jamaicaner. Es muss nicht immer DOK sein 😉
Review by Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪
The nose is very fine and fresh, it is rather floral in addition to the typical markers of Hampden (banana). We find the usual frame of a LROK. The nose is typically artificial. In mouth it is powerful and funky as one pleases. It is heavy on tropical fruits (pineapple), leather and a little coffee. The finish is intense on spices and some empyreumatic notes. The conclusion is simple, real Hampden, no frills, as we like to blow our taste buds ... but a bit conventional.
Review by Romain de L
Very nice ! Quite Hampden typical. Strong nose, dry fruits, funk. Strong attack, rubber, pineapple, « nappant », but well balanced with just a bit of bitterness to keep it fresh. Finish with ripe bananas and exotic fruits. Satisfying Tried again - quite nice - but finish a bit short - 8.2 is adequate
Review by jayelle
At Three Dots. Came bc their website menu showed Caroni. Definitely none available lol This will suffice. Classic Hampden. The 2025 blend is much smoother. This has a bite on the finish. Fairly thin mouth feel as well.
Review by Tobin
Clearly less 'dramatic' than other Hampdens and therefore felt 'light-footed'. A Jamaican, which you can also just drink without fading everything else, but which is still no less exciting. The unexpected very natural raspberry note also knows how to please. Top!
Review by Filip Šikula
Review by Domi Mal
Solid tropical LFCH and a good daily sipper! Uncomplicated, not overwhelming but not boring at all. Is very much Hampden in it and for daily use very well suited ;-)
Review by Martin Spooner
Great overripe pineapple. Sticky notes also very clear but not at all unpleasant. I really like the nose. The taste is very nice and round, complex and has a certain warmth. A lovely drop. Improved slightly in the post-tasting.
Review by alex
Admittedly, young but very fragrant, very good hampden once again. It's true that you can smell a bit of alcohol at first but after 30 mins of aeration it's much better. I liked it 🤩😍
Review by Campbell
While not an ester bomb, Hampden’s flavor profile is still in full force here. Plenty of overripe fruitiness, especially pineapple, mesh well with a fair bit of spice—more so than I’d expect given the younger age and otherwise mellower cask-derived notes. It drinks quite well for its proof, and It’s a bottle I’m certainly looking forward to spending more time with.
Review by Palo - V Poháriku
This LFCH rum from Hampden delivers exactly what you’d expect: solid and well-crafted. The nose opens with vibrant notes of lemon, tropical fruits, nail polish, young wood, and pineapple, giving it that classic funk. The palate brings tropical fruits like mango and banana, supported by slight tannins and young wood, balancing out the profile. The finish lingers long with sweet, citrus, and honeyed tones, rounded off by pineapple and woody undertones. Overall, it’s a great choice for fans of Hampden, reliable and satisfying.

It's the perfect definition of what is hampden. Not the most complex rum from the distillery, but one of the tastiest, very funky, and generous. Exotic fruits marmalade, beautiful texture... Gorgeous Hampden!

Review by ElReyTristan
Review by Buddudharma
Nice Hampden, but due to the low ester content it lacks something to keep up with the best bottlings.
Review by Richard Krupa
if they made the scented instant glue like that, which is what it evoked in me first, I wouldn't use anything else. Esters and mangoes. The bouquet is great. I'd guess the strength is a percentage point less than it really is.
Review by Henry Davies
A cracking rum. Leads with the typical Hampden notes and leaves you wanting more. At the first instance all wood and leather bound books moving to more tropical pineapple and banana. Deep complex mouth with many layers and esters over sugar leading to a long and satisfying finish. Really top notch sipping rum

Richtig geiler Einstiegs-High-Ester
Review by Dominic Lutz
Nice ester notes with some wood, bitter and very well integrated alcohol. On the palate very long, warm and spicy, with light oak, some black tea, a bit of sweetness and a slight glue note in the background. Interestingly, with water it becomes noticeably sweeter, but the alcohol comes out a bit stronger. Very pleasant and easy to imagine as a daily sipper.
Review by ThreeH
Farbe goldener Bernstein.
Review by BnBrt
Review by Bowel Emptier
This is one of the most complex rums I’ve had. Super enjoyable. The flavor keeps evolving over the course of a long finish. Definitely has some spice. You can really sip this while sitting in a leather chair in a study and feel all intellectual and stuff. A great one.
