Habitation Velier Hampden LFCH 2011
Overripe pineapple and cooked banana lead here, with glue and solvent tucked underneath rather than shouting. Being a lower-ester Hampden mark, it's the mellower, rounder side of the distillery — plenty of tropical fruit, young oak and warm spice, tropical-aged into a concentrated dram. Several tasters call it "one of my favourite Hampden" and a genuinely drinkable daily sipper despite the 60.5%.

Rounder, fruit-forward Hampden you can sip daily Loved as a rounder, more everyday Hampden — full of pineapple, banana and funk without being an ester bomb. Some wish it had more punch; the finish can run short.

Third tasting and still really good, actually a bit better than last tasting. I like the rubber notes at the end. ————— Fourth tasting and bumping it again, really really good.

Thanks to Johannes it was possible to make this small Birds Flight. In the race were 2xOWH, 5xLFCH (including the HV LFCH mixed) and 2xLROK. As a conclusion on my part, from LROK onwards they are more fun, the low ester fraction is fine. In my opinion, the Birds are not worth the money, but rather a collector's item. I don't really see any major differences.

Great Hampden with everything you could wish for. Lots of fermented tropical fruit. Strong estetic notes without being too overwhelming. But simply tasty. Good value for money. Clear recommendation to buy

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that produces rum as well as alcohol for perfume. In all the rums from this distillery you will taste wild esters, after which your whole organism will soak up the smell of golden tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the "must try before you die" rums

Very good Hampden. Great balance between fruit/wood/spices. Not overly funky. Baked banana. Pineapple obviously. Not overripe but still on the fresh side. Pretty much flawless. Second try. Still love it.

Nice Hampden. Nice toasty aromas. More ester than the hampden estate overproof and also drier in the finish.

Awesome part!

Delicious low ester Hampden with a great, balanced nose with plantain. Some honey and cereals too. Slightly creamy. I think the low esters benefit even more from tropical lagering than the higher ester levels already do.

A very good hampden easy to access and very round. A small delicacy

On the nose a lot of pineapple and fermented banana flows in, the alcohol is also very noticeable In the mouth is first a sweetness and then the tingle of alcohol ! Then a slightly peppery note and young wood. It is slightly astringent ! Gradually develops a light banana flavor and some vanilla! Delicious! In the finish remains the spicy, paired with banana and vanilla.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Not an ester bomb, but well tuned. Can be drunk very pleasantly for over 60% alc. Compared to the LROK without a long wait round and for me the price-performance winner.
Review by Christoph
The Hampden profile is definitely there but the esters are just missing here.
Review by Johannes
The fruit notes are missing, but nice esters, very creamy and round.
Review by Jussi Piirainen
On the nose: Esters, glue notes with fermented note seem to dominate the profile. Under that there is some light vanilla and light citrus notes. Little bit of overripe pineapple and bananas. Taste: Warm and intense at first. Pineapple and bananas at first with some sweet honey notes. Light wood notes. Then the fruit notes mellows down a little bit and you get light glue notes mixed with esters as the dominant profile. Finish: Light woody notes, esters, spices like peppers and herbal notes in the background. Medium finish. Esters and glue notes were the dominanting notes with some tropical fruits, but the fruits were in the background.

Review by Portman
Great fruits that are wonderfully supported and rounded off by the subtle ester content. Vanilla, banana, plum... Very fresh, soft and round. Easy sipper.

29.7.2025 – Tasting after a long time :) Nose: Pineapple, banana, esters, glue, nail polish remover – everything we love :) Taste: Tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, bananas), esters, spices, glue. Finish: Medium-long, warm, honey, esters, woody
