Velier Caroni Light Trinidad Rum 1989
Sipped neat, this is Caroni with the volume turned down — the tar and rubber are largely gone, as one taster put it, "light is true with this release." The nose wins everyone over: varnish, vanilla, banana and oak. The palate goes woody and lightly fruity with chocolate, vanilla and orange, and a mineral edge. At 64.2% the heat runs hot.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Schönes, süffiges Light-Profil nahezu ohne die Caroni-typischen schweren Aromen. Sehr ausgewogen und damit ausgesprochen angenehm zu trinken; auch bei den leichten Rums hat Caroni exzellente Arbeit geleistet.

Light is true with this release. The traditional flavours are kind of missing, so no tar and rubber, which I have later come to like. The nose is woody with vanilla, varnish and banana. The palate is woody and kind of fruity with vanilla and chocolate and a light mineral note. The finish is medium long and woody with chocolate, vanilla and orange.
