Retasting with the guys from RumX. ------ This one is intense, fruity and naturally sweet with some caramel and light spices. The palate is dry and spicy/warm. I don't get the cola note, but in the empty glass i can pick up some sherry and coffee.

Typisch Port Mourant Anklänge mit dunklen Früchten, Holz und Gewürz. Sehr komplex und macht sehr viel Spass. Verglichen mit einem qualitativ ähnlichen Velier sehr günstig zu kaufen. Natürlich haben wir es hier mit einem kontinentalen statt tropischen Rum zu tun.

An ample nose of dark, woody scents, with oak and also cedar wood, dried fruit and prune compote. Sherry and pineapple add freshness and balance. Flavors jostle on the palate, with a lively but not dominant alcohol content. The freshness is more pronounced than on the nose, with menthol. A less complex palate at first, but everything balances out in a few seconds. The finish is long, with fruit, pineapple, stewed fruit and dried fruit, menthol and a slight sweetness that must come from the Sherry cask. A fine rum, complex and evolving. The boisterousness of the palate clearly loses it points.

For me, the best continental aged Port Mourant to date. Far from thin and "top-heavy". The profile is remotely reminiscent of the El Dorado 15, but without its weaknesses.

For my taste an excellent Port Mourant. The sherry finish fits perfectly here. It adds another level of complexity to the rum and gives it a certain something, a grace and elegance that I usually associate more with older spirits. The finish is beautifully strong and aromatic. For me, this rum is somewhat underrated. I've already had it as a blind sample at meetings. The rum generally scored better than the current RumX rating.

Alte Post pub in Witten, February 2025. The next great Rum Nation, this time a Port Mourant. Nice nose, especially wood and sherry are recognizable. Lots of wood and spice on the palate and also some coffee.

A rather unusual Port Mourant, finished in sherry casks, which confused me during tasting. The sherry is omnipresent, with notes of berry, plum, prune and exotic fruit, almost concealing the identity of Port Mourant. The typical spicy woodiness (aniseed, chili pepper) develops gradually, with an unexpected freshness on the floral and herbaceous side. The whole is greedy and welcoming to the nostrils. On the palate, the dominance of sherry and its red and dried fruits is more contested, notably by well-roasted wood, spices (chili, aniseed, salt), tobacco and leather. Hints of caramel and aromatic herbs are also present. The sherry adds real value, this fruitier side complementing the Port Mourant profiles. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, caught up in the origins of the still with its tannic, bitter and herbaceous side. Dark chocolate, salt, toasted wood, caramel and fruit (red and dried) add warmth, body and intensity. A real surprise, proof that finishes can radically transform a rum, and here in a positive way.

A wonderful Port Mourant. A nose to sink into, dangerous drinking flow despite complex aromas. One of my absolute favorite rums. The nose is very mature, spicy, slightly herbaceous. Cardboard, aniseed and sage. The fruit is very dry and ripe, after raisiny sherry still some dried plums and crumbly, dark yellow, slightly spiced baked apple. The sherry comes through more clearly in the mouth, the fruit recedes even further. Wood, wet wood, aniseed - very Port Mourant, without this yellow fruitiness and also without this partly maritime saltiness. Instead, some bitter coffee, tobacco. Alcohol integration could be a little better. The palate unfortunately falls somewhat short of the phenomenal nose. The attack is long with already integrated tannins. An excellent rum

Great dried fruit on the nose, raisin, intense. Dried fruit on the palate, initially a pleasant light sweetness, coffee, chocolate. Then a pleasant light bitterness on the finish. Great fun!

Hier habe ich einen sehr schmackhaften Port Mourant, aus dessen 17 Jahre Reifezeit das allerbeste herausgearbeitet wurde. In der Nase habe ich herrliche Fruchtnoten von Dörrpflaume, tropischen Früchten, Aprikose, Beeren und Trockenobst. Dunkles Karamell, Eiche, Kräuter und Anis machen die Nase sehr komplex und aufregend. Am Gaumen kommt eine gefällige Würzigkeit mit Holz, Backgewürzen und Fasseinfluss, welche dann durch karamellisierte Rosinen, Sherry, Trockenfrüchte und Röstnoten erweitert wird. Kaffee, Tabak, Anis und eine honigartige Süße machen ein vielschichtiges Geschmackserlebnis aus, was den Port Mourant-Charakter perfekt wiedergibt. Der lange Abgang ist würzig, intensiv und bietet neben dem Sherry auch Mandarine, Kirschbaumholz, Tannine und Kräuter. Dieser äußerst leckere PM ist ein Pflichtprogramm für alle Guyana-Fans ! Direkt nach dem Einschenken ließ mich der kräftige Duft trockenfruchtigen Sherrys einen übermächtigen Fasseinfluss vermuten, was sich zum Glück genauso wenig bestätigt hat wie eine befürchtete Schwefelverunreinigung. Stattdessen liegt hier ein kontinental gereifter Port Mourant vor, der aufgrund seiner sehr harmonischen Verbindung mit dem Sherryfass eine beachtliche Tiefe entwickelt, die an tropische Reifungen heranreicht. Köstlich!

Toller PM, im Vergleich zum 1998 von Nation wirkt er wesentlich leichter. Mehr Beeren bemerkbar. Das Profil finde ich sehr passend erkennbar: pflanzliche, floral mit Nüssen und tropische Früchten. Sehr lecker und fast schon süffig. Wirkt sehr zugänglich, Abgang hält gut an.

I am not quite following the other great reviews this rum has. Don't get me wrong, it's good, I just don't feel it's close to 90. It tastes clearly of Port Mourant, but has a overwhelning bitternes that makes the rum a little unbalanced. The sherry influence lifts this rum a lot.

Schöne Sherry-Nase mit Propolis, Eiche, Dörrpflaumen und Karamell. Blumige Düfte, die aus Zitrusfrüchten (Mandarine), Mandelblüten und Gewürzen bestehen, rieche ich auch. Am Gaumen dann mehr Honig und dunkler Toast. Kräutertee und Mandarinen sind auch deutlich und werden im späteren Verlauf ganz klar zu Litchi, welche sich im sehr späten Abgang nochmals extrem bemerkbar macht. Der Röstige Abgang ist lang und süß. Leichte Kräuter, Eiche und Honig werden klar von Litchi begleitet.

N’étant pas forcément à l’aise sur les port mourant, je relève néanmoins des notes de cerises sûrement apportées par le fût des notes boisées, amer, des baies et du caramel. L’ensemble est harmonieux et puissant beaucoup de complexité. Je pense que le rapport qualité prix y était.
