Corman Collins Long Pond Old Jamaique 1977

"A smooth rum that's just fun" is how one taster put it — and that's the surprise here. This is a 35-year Long Pond with almost no ester, so instead of Jamaican funk you get ripe tropical fruit, oak, vanilla and a buttery, bourbon-like edge. Black banana and pear drops turn up too. A few found the finish thin and one wished for more punch than the 50%.

Smooth, low-ester old Jamaican, fruit and oak Well-liked old Long Pond that trades funk for fruit, wood and butter. Most enjoy the drinkability, though a couple call the finish thin and one found it flat for the age.

A nice and fruity rum with roasted wood and spices. The ABV should have been higher in my opinion. The empty glass has some chocolate and coffee notes to it.

Compared to the RA 1977, this one is less complex, less rounded.

A very well-rounded affair with a multi-layered interplay of aromas, in which the finish is unfortunately a little too lean compared to the rest to stick in the memory for long. This low-ester long pond only builds up its entire repertoire after a longer period in the glass, which, due to its palatable and almost too pleasing basic character, carries the risk of having drunk the glass empty beforehand.

A big disappointment in view of the framework data: the rum is not very complex, the nose is thin. A caramel sweetness dominates the taste of the rum, followed by a slight bitter note and wet cardboard. The alcohol is not well integrated, especially for its age. For the price of the sample, I would have been better off buying a bottle of a mid-range bourbon.

Black banana and pear drops. It's expensive but its just about unique. The Whisky Nectar bottled a 1977 Long Pond a few years ago that was aged until 2012. Like this one you'll struggle to find one of those. Really great stuff but take care, its not Long Pond as...

After tasting the 30 year old from Corman Collins I was surprised at this..this feels.mich more vibrant than the 1982. More fruit to the typical wood and butter notes. Lakcs a bit at the end of tasting but otherwise really strong!
