Jack Tar Caroni Old Music! Series Soca Edition 1998
What surprises people first is how much fruit hides behind the tar: sour cherry, a little citrus, even a pineapple edge, all wrapped in the varnish, smoke and roasted oak you expect from a 1998 Caroni. Vanilla and coffee round the palate. The one common gripe is the alcohol — several tasters found it not fully integrated for a 20-year-old at 69.3%.

How does Jack Tar Caroni Old Music! Series Soca Edition 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 19 community reviews.
Tarry, fruity 1998 Caroni at full proof A classic 1998 Caroni profile — tar, varnish, wood, vanilla, dark fruit — that most rate highly. The recurring catch: the high-proof alcohol reads a bit rough and unintegrated.

This is a another rare bottle and I was really happy that my friend got a full set and I could buy some samples. This is a great Caroni and if you get the chance you should give it a go. Make sure you rest it for a good while so that you get the full experience. The nose is a clear Caroni with tar, varnish and smoky wood trailed by cherries and vanilla. The palate is fruity with tar, wood, tobacco, leather and wonderful vanilla. The finish is long with fruits, tar, wood and light vanilla. What I like is that the flavours stick to your palate for a very long time. Price to quality can be argued but it is a great release.
