Cadenhead‘s T.D.L TMAH 1991
Most tasters land in the same place: this 1991 TDL drinks like a lighter, sweeter cousin of Caroni — tar, rubber and dried fruit over real sweetness, with a mint or menthol streak in the finish. The catch shows up again and again: at 64.3% the alcohol can feel too present and pull an otherwise lovely bottle "out of balance." Some sip it happily, others wish the heat were tamer.

How does Cadenhead‘s T.D.L TMAH 1991 taste?
Aggregated from 41 community reviews.
Sweet, tarry Trinidad with a hot edge Widely liked for its dirty, sweet Caroni-like profile of tar, dried fruit and mint. The recurring gripe: the high-proof heat isn't always well integrated.

The alcohol tweaks the nose enormously when it takes on the cap after resting 😀, but then it unfolds its fullness of aromas. A beautiful composition of fruits, a fine sweetness, plus a little rubber and mint. The palate inspires me even more, really cool and dirty 😉, rubber and tar, plus the wood influence, leather and a little minerality. Great TDL! The little man's Caroni😊, although...at today's prices.😀🙈

On the nose the 24y and 25y Cadenhead‘s bottling are very close. Woody and some umami notes with a hint of fruity notes (grapes). On the plate both are again similar: Quite balanced on the palate with more vanilla and sweetness as well as fruits. The 25y gravitates a bit mir towards roasted and woody notes. Both very enjoyable.

Very cool and dirty TDL. Lots of tar, red fruits and burnt sugar. As if there was some Caroni in it.
Review by Buddudharma
Nice TDL, but tamer, more column-styled and thus less interesting compared to the vintages of the early 2000s. Well-integrated alcohol and nice mouthfeel.

My first thought was Caroni, the dirty, sweet and fruity variety... actually my thing, if, yes, if the alcohol was better integrated... it has a strong counterweight to the great flavors, and so the great bottling gets out of balance. Despite everything, a good rum

Slightly sweet, a little tar, yet fruity and a hint of menthol/mint in the finish Quite tasty to sip, the glass was empty faster than initially thought.

Amazingly good for a 91 TDL!
Review by Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪
The nose is intense and pastry-like: honey/vanilla/cherry/marzipan! But after resting, fermented and tar notes appear (how strange, we are not at Caroni's!). In mouth, it is creamy and salty. We find dried fruits and fig. And again notes of hydrocarbons. It is not possible, the cask must have dragged a little at Caroni ... The finish is very long. On this finish, we find mainly a spicy profile! This bottling from another era (almost 10 years old now) has a very surprising and interesting profile. The complexity of the smoky/ tarry notes blend perfectly with the woody/fruity. It is by far, much better than the same vintage bottled by SBS.

Not sure whether its caroni or tdl, but despite the high abv its easy to sip.

A rather light and round TDL that could nearly pass off as a fruity Caroni. After a while in the glass I can smell a minty note in the background. There’s some wood, vanilla, light spices, tar and chocolate. Makes for a nice sipping rum but I wouldn’t purchase a bottle.
Review by Jarek
Less fruity and less (barely) minty than the RomDeluxe 42 tasted at the same time. Good, but not as inspiring as ser RdL.

Caroni's influence is clearly noticeable.

Once rested it was like a light Caroni. The rubber and tar was there with some light fruit and chocolate. Love how well the wood and ABV was integrated.

Relaxed TDL but no revelation
Review by Oliver
Caroni immediately comes to mind on the nose and palate. Great sweetness! However, the alcohol is too present for me to give it a better rating.

Too sharp alcohol taste for TDL
