Interesting! I wanted to compare it to the antipode, younger and more spirited, and this is obviously a real difference. On the nose, after opening the sample, I had my doubts, but then the camphor came out, and the wood was more present. Then there's quite a lot of fruit, especially peach and apricot, and some spices. The finish is a little light, perhaps with a hint of ginger. This distillery is definitely working for me :) Super-smooth, almost imperceptible alcohol!

Wow, somehow artificial-looking. Camphor? Not my cup of tea, anyway. Too bad, because there's still plenty available.

Red-brown Aroma: Initially sweet with raisins. Intense, with strong dried fruit aromas - raisins, prunes, figs, dates, apricots. Also chocolate and cognac. Taste: Full-bodied and sweet with lots of delicious cognac and dark fruits or berries. Dark chocolate, liquorice and tobacco. Finish: Medium length Heavy, sweet with cognac, ginger and spicy-peppery. Lingers pleasantly in the aftertaste. Conclusion: Very tasty, round and full-bodied.

There are some New Groves that I think are very good, but this is not one of them.

A very, very fragrant, floral, quince-fruited profile. Intoxicating. This takes the lead over the more classic, and to my taste, New Grove profile. Needs perhaps more aeration. Destabilizing to put a better mark.

Avg Rating 7.6/10 over 490 Rums

Mauritius is the rum island of the Indian Ocean, a sugarcane country that makes it all: smooth aged molasses rum, fresh-juice agricole, and the spiced and fruit-steeped rhum arrange that locals drink. That range across three rum styles makes it one of the most varied origins in rum, still flying under the radar of most drinkers.
