3 badge mixology Kirk and Sweeney XO
Most people land somewhere between impressed and won over here, though a couple push back on the cask. Think liquid crème brûlée: caramel, toffee and vanilla with a heavy oak spine and real spice on top. At 65.5% the alcohol stays remarkably hidden. Give it 20-30 minutes in the glass to open. The catch: it's finished in port/roast casks, so if strong tannins or sherry finishes aren't your thing, you'll notice.

Super starter for the tasting evening! Of course, it's unmistakably a Dominican rum, but an unusually bold one without any noticeable alcohol at all. With a few drops of water, it becomes even more approachable, with apricot and barrel notes balancing each other out. Not my preferred style, but definitely easy to drink and therefore recommended for special occasions—if you’re not watching the pennies... (Bottle price has become exorbitantly high by now).

Just had another go at this rum and knowing now, that it needs to rest for around 30 minutes, it scored better this time. A very rich and full bodied rum with a nice long strong finish. There is a nice vanilla and molasses hint to it throughout and the price definitely matches the quality. Remember to rest it to get the full experience.

Liquid Crème Brûlée, what a treat. The heavy wood influence and some spices on top make a really complex and balanced drop. This is definitely my favourite Rum from the Dominican Republic by far and I am not really a fan of their style usually.

8,4:On the nose, sweet roasted oak notes like burnt sugar, caramel, crème brûlée, toffee, buttery, slightly meaty with bacon, leather and vanilla, dried apricots, raisins, strong, balanced, but a bit alcoholic, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is vegetal, dark with licorice, the wood is toasted with mocha, confectionery, roasted nuts, spicy, warm, brown. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is sweet with roasted wood notes like crème brûlée, caramel, roasted nuts, pastry, dry, meaty with bacon, molasses is floral, vegetal with red bell peppers, intense, strong, slightly metallic, fruity with dried apricots, raisins, citrus fruits, mango, sherry barrel impact is obvious. 8,3:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, warm with sweet spice and toasted oak notes like milk chocolate, crème brûlée, caramel, molasses is sweet with honey, dark with black tea, fruits are dried, grapes.

Wow was soll ich sagen.

Top.

Very finely balanced rum. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. Pleasant herbal and spicy notes. For a better rating, I miss the rough edges a little. Beautiful bottling from Kirk and Sweeney.

I thought long and hard about opening it, as the aesthetics of the bottle alone are a treat. I'm glad I did, because it surpasses its 12, 18 and 23 siblings once again. Basically like the 23, but even more intense and rich. Great thing, unfortunately a bit expensive.
Review by X-Savior
VERY IMPORTANT: Please let this rest in the glass for 20-30 mins before consuming to fully develop its flavours and aroma. On The Rocks: On The Nose there is very smooth brown sugar, floral and spice with mild roasted oak. Taste has a very strong immediate sweet spicy hit with floral and alcohol undertones. There is a delayed alcohol burn and warmth in the chest. Finish is medium length with with a smooth sweetness and mild spice. It is an up front complexity but does not drastically change in the finish. This is a very delightful and sophisticated rum. This is a unique small scale special event sipper to be throughly enjoyed. Mixed Pepsi Zero: I refuse to mix this.
