Veracruz Villa Rica Single Barrel Rum
Wood dominates here — dry oak, tobacco, a bit of leather and dark chocolate over sweet vanilla and dried plum. At 23 years and 40%, it reads soft but thin, and several tasters catch a whiff of tequila or artificial sweetness on the nose. One reviewer summed the split neatly: the palate is nicer than the nose. Pleasant, middling, nothing that lingers.

"Second incredible tasting, lots of oak, a little vanilla and spice, and a very complex blend of chocolate and coffee, very well integrated alcohol, dou In summary, my tasting notes: Nose: Oak, vanilla On the palate: Caramelized, Cocoa, Coffee".

Sample no.2 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2022. Got my hopes up for this 23yo Mexican rum but it unfortunately fell short. At first there is a clear tequila scent before the rum can get some air and release more aromas. After a while the sweet smell of prunes fills my nose. Sadly that does not translate to the palate as it feels dry and light and tastes almost nothing.

Tělo převážně sušené ovoce a závěr jde do třešní. Edit: dopíjím a pořád to vidím stejně

Hodně dřevité, lehce karamel a tabák? příjemné, těžší rum.

Not too sweet, but tastes very much like caramelized sugar and is also very thin.

I find this rum really okay, don't know where the rather poor ratings come from. In any case, a very okay average rum, nothing special, but not bad either. You can give it a try.

The taste of vanilla, ripe dried fruits, walnut and with an almost Maderia-like sweetness in the finish.

My first Veracruz. I have mixed feelings about this one. Nothing worth mentioning or extraordinary, it is pleasant. Too sweet and thin, quite narrow profile with a lack of complexity. Anyway it met my expectation.

Drevity nevyrazny rum. Whiskovy charakter

Konec trochu zadimeny, výrazná vůně i chuť….

Flat on the nose, fruity plum with some leather. Less sweet on the palate, woody/spicy, not too sharp. Some ester in the finish.
Review by Cédric Meyers
The first nose is a little surprising, with a hint of vinasse, freshly pressed grapes and a slight woodiness, leather and red fruit. On the palate, it's sweet and at the same time slightly bitter. The woodiness is more present than on the nose.

Sample no. 2 of 24 days of rum 2022 advent calendar. 👃 is very unimpressive coarse and rugged for me. Mostly acidity with lot of wood and fruitiness all killed by alcoholic odour. Taste on the other hand is great. 👅 is very woody, with very pleasant sweetness of vanilla, nougat, fudge, chocolate, cocoa, just an explosion of flavours. Truly great taste that saved this rum from damnation. Finish is medium long. 71 for me but if I would go only by nose it would be roughly 50 max. Last drops and I can't really complain, this is the bottle that I would not mind to buy if it would be available and the price reasonably set.

A pleasant surprise for molasses, still sweet but almost agricultural. Nose a little aggressive at first, needs to be aired, then opens up nicely, candied red fruits, licorice, slightly spicy. On the palate, it's a little flatter and sweeter, then the alcohol comes out, finishing with sweet red fruit and soft wood. The length is medium to short. A bottle I could enjoy owning at a decent price.

This one is kind of bad. Not really an exciting entry from Mexico. In core this remind some of bad south american rums. This would be unspectacular. But this one's has the burn and taste of artificial sweetener. This really takes about 15 points off I would assume...
