Velier R.A.S.C. Royal Army Service Corps (Begnoni) 1954
Sipped neat is really the only way with this one — a piece of liquid history from 1954, bottled by Velier at 53%. Expect heavy toasted wood, leather, tobacco and cigar, with plum running from nose to finish and dark cocoa underneath. Several tasters call it complex, heavy yet elegant, with only a faint burnt-sugar sweetness. The finish is long, dry and tannic.

How does Velier R.A.S.C. Royal Army Service Corps (Begnoni) 1954 taste?
Aggregated from 17 community reviews.
Heavy, old-style plum-and-tobacco navy sipper Most find it deeply complex and beautifully balanced — old-style plum, wood and tobacco. A few felt the palate falls slightly flat or bitter and doesn't match the nose or the hype.

A classic navy profile on the nose with tropical fruit from Jamaica alongside the heavy dark notes from Guyana. On the palate, the interplay remains, molasses sweetness, dark chocolate, tobacco, dark pepper flavors, but again also tropical fruit notes that flash with an estrous freshness. A very good navy release.

I would never have dreamed of tasting this rum - liquid history like no other rum. Extremely complex from nose to finish. Very heavy on the nose with lots of toasted wood, leather, tobacco and winter spices. There is also plum, which is prominent right through to the finish. Burnt sugar provides the really only subtle sweetness. The alcohol is noticeable, but not unpleasant. A wonderful rum and a must for every rum collector, even if there are certainly other rums at a better PLV

I had the privilege of tasting this historic rum thanks to Jimmy owner of Aguardiente a small place with an incredible atmosphere where you can sit at a table and choose from the 1300 bottles of rum on display. Definitely this rum is an experience to try at least once in a lifetime! Personally I was a little disappointed because for its history and price I was expecting more!

Fluid story... Eerily complex, heavy and yet elegant. A delight.

Figs on nose, plums on palate, roasted nuts and nice wood taste, tobacco notes, long finish, very elegant rum, greatly balanced and quite unique profile.
