A.H. Riise Santos Dumont XO Super Premium Rum
Honey, coconut and caramel pour on thick here, with pineapple and vanilla underneath. Members agree it's very sweet — one member measured 58 g/l of added sugar, and several say it drinks more like a rum-flavored liqueur than a traditional rum. The people who love sweet spirits find it round and fruity; those chasing dryness or complexity walk away flat.

How does A.H. Riise Santos Dumont XO Super Premium Rum taste?
Aggregated from 170 community reviews.
Very sweet, dessert-leaning coconut-honey sipper Deeply divisive. Sweet-rum fans call it round, fruity and easy; drier palates find it syrupy and artificial. Most agree it leans dessert-liqueur more than classic rum.

Rhum hyper doux, et fin - miel, rondeur et finesse - peu etre trop sucré

tastes somehow sweet, floral & sour like vinegar and Gewürztraminer, together with rubber bananas. Better than the Palmira in direct comparison, but still absolutely not my cup of tea and nothing I need to drink again. Sorry.

21.12.2025 Having a friend over who is not up to the heavier stuff, so we run through a few lighter rums. ---------- This is also a very sweet rum but it's really fruity. Using it for baking, ice cream and desserts.
Review by Stefan Persson
Even though I’m not a fan of sweetened rum is this quite OK, maybe because it’s produced from sugar cane honey in pot stills and that that gives it another profile. Significant aromas and flavors is bananas, coconut and honey.
Review by Jonas Kofod
Pleasant through and through. Not complex in any way. Just smooth and pleasant. Sweet though, maybe to much in the long run.
Review by Galli33
A very sweet, round rum. I like it a lot as a desert rum with the fam or friends(who aren’t used to the good stuff 😬). But overall little bit to sweet and not so spicy, for my taste… For desert santos XO > zacapa XO Nose: Popcorn, Intense, Sweet, Honey, vanilla, alcoholic, fruits, peaches, coconut, peaches, pineapple, raisin, apricot Mouth: Light, delicious, mild, round, soft, dry, alcoholic, sweet, honey, caramel, chocolate, young wood, almond, barrel(oak), coconut, pineapple, peaches Finish: medium, sweet, caramel, butterscotch, smoky, spice, roasted nuts, fruity, dried fruits, peaches, apricot

Excellent, palatable and very interesting rum. The longer you drink it, the more aromas it reveals. Sweet, fruity and spicy with a very interesting interplay of wood and roasted aromas. A very interesting interplay of aromas even after the glass is empty. For me a very good rum...exactly my taste!

The nose was rather appealing, with fruit, vanilla and almost Jamaica-style esters. But on the palate, it's a slightly peppery sugar stone. A touch of coffee too. Frankly, not crazy.
Review by BoAlbertsen
Strong and delicious aftertaste. Lovely sweet aroma and a hint of oak flavor.

Super sweet rum for a very good price point

Fruit and vanilla in the aroma, honey-sweet with vanilla in the finish.

Sladký, sladký a ovocný.
Review by BTHHo 🥃
The taste of soft tannins, high esters, honey and not least fermented fruit A long aftertaste in the sign of sweetness
Review by Daniel
Super fruchtiger und milder Süßrum. Fragwürdig, ob diese Süße allerdings ohne die Zugabe von Zucker erreicht werden kann, wie angegeben. Erinnert stark an A.H. Riise Abfüllungen.

A tasting from October 2022. No doubt who's behind Santos Dumont, and this has a bit of the same characteristics; very sweet in the nose, with hints of tropical fruit and caramel, and in the notes it's sweet and honey-like
Review by LukaŽiga
7,2:On the nose it is sweet with notes of vanilla, butterscotch toffee and maple syrup all bursting up. After the airing oak spice pushes through the toffee sweetness. There are other sweet notes of candied oranges and canned apricots. Coconut and some ripe banana finally appear. The nose notes are quite enticing, let 's see how this sweetness will play out through palate. 6,4:On the palate we catch some heated alcohol and wood spice. There is also some maple sweetness, quite tasty, but soon it overpowers the whole rum. There are peppery oak spice, maple, honey and apricot jam and pineapple. In the end, the rum becomes woody. The roundedness is almost gone here. When we put the rum in the fridge, the touch of sweetness abates and becomes more sippable. 6,6:The finish is sweet, quite rounded, probably due to added sweetness. Sweet butterscotch and maple combined with oak are quite tasty. Baking spice, honey and cinnamon linger on.

Relatively sweet. Very mild and balanced. Price performance in order. Tasted again after a long time. Unfortunately now much too sweet for my taste. In my opinion a great starter rum.
Review by Rumpalumpa
Meine Güte ist daa süß! Wirklich wie sirup im Mund. Krass. An der Nase geht's noch, man merkt, dass er aromatisiert ist: Kokos, Pfirsich und Keksteig. Trotzdem alkoholisch. Am Gaumen kommen weihnachtliche Gewürze dazu.

Read full review →For the lover of sweet spirits, this will be a nice alternative to the classic A.H. Riise bottles. Both in taste and price. Santos Dumont XO combines Caribbean molasses and Brazilian cane juice. It's a sweet spirit, in an elegant bottle, that tastes of coconut, citrus, caramel, honey, vanilla. And the nice thing is that, despite the added sugar, you can taste the influence of sherry and port casks. No wonder that with a price tag of up to 50 € it is very popular in the sweet rum world.
