Rum Nation Long Pond Small Batch Rare Rums 1986
One member sums it up as a "lovely blend kinda taste like a sherry finish" — and that's the whole story here. This 30-year Long Pond spent six years in Oloroso, and the sherry does a lot of the talking: dried fruit, cherry, chocolate, tobacco, a little banana and caramel underneath. Round and easy, but several tasters wished the old Jamaican showed through more.

How does Rum Nation Long Pond Small Batch Rare Rums 1986 taste?
Aggregated from 43 community reviews.
Sherry-led old Long Pond, less funk than hoped Well-aged and smooth, with dried fruit, cherry and gentle funk — but the Oloroso finish divides people. Many feel it buries the Long Pond and fades fast on the finish.

great stuff in principle but really a pity why you have to put something so noble 6 years in sherry barrels. unfortunately also relatively quickly gone and not particularly present. Unfortunately, sherry dominates for the most part...

Delicious Long Pond. Spicy fruity light esters very harmonious. ABV could be higher but somehow it doesn't bother so much. Less complex and woody than expected for its age. Stable and tasty in May no more no less.

Third and final sample in the ICE. 30yo and LP, sounds good at first. But I don't think the last 6 years in the Oloroso barrel would have been necessary. Nose: nicely spicy and fruity with passion fruit, pineapple, lime and lemon. The sulphurous smell of the Oloroso comes through clearly. Many people like it, but not so much for me. Behind it, some wood and tobacco and, with time, clearly vinegar. A pleasant caramel sweetness rounds it off. 8,4 Palate: spicy and roasty, slightly salty at the beginning with an umami note and liquorice. Somewhat musty with the sulphur of the Oloroso. Banana and raisin with a molasses-like sweetness. Overall, the LP is somewhat more restrained than the oloroso finish. A pity, actually. There would have been more to it. Nevertheless, a pleasant drop. 8,2

Tasted on the brilliant Spree tour with Kirsch for the 12th GRF: A little disappointing, not very aromatic and almost a little thin. Would have deserved a second chance with more time and air

Because this is 30 years old rum, this rum did did sit in the glass for a good 15 minutes before the review. On the nose: Tobacco notes with mild ester and polish notes. Red fruit notes from the cherry cask are on the back. Light on the nose. Taste: Light, light chocolate notes, light banana notes at first and then the cherry cask notes takes over. Woody notes. Taste: Warm, spices. Cherry notes. Woody notes. Not as woody as i expected. The sherry cask influence does take over the palate and as much as i sometimes like sherry cask finished, i like my sherry cask rums with higher abv and with more body.

Unfortunately, once again, I don't find the finish really intoxicating. I really wonder why you always have to put such basically good drops in sherry casks. It has spoiled a better rating.
Review by Boletus
Due to the six-year second maturation in sherry casks, this Lond Pond, which has a very moderate ester level, has been harmoniously enriched with aromas of dried fruit, chocolate, nuts and a little leather and tobacco. Really very round and palatable, but the rum runs out of steam a little in the finish, which is reflected in the relatively rapid disappearance of the individual, fine flavor components.
Review by Skyfly
1986 Long Pond sounds great at first, but then it was rather a disappointment. The rum is super round and has no edges due to the long ageing, but apart from various fruits and sugar/caramel, there is little to taste here; strangely enough, not even a hint of the cask
Review by DaveLamb
tropical fruits, spice hints, combined with Sherry character(LPCH is same). Nice light Long Pond, again my favourite blend, a hint of sherry's finishing through the barrel adds to the wine's luster.
Review by DutchRumPirate
A nice rum, but less complex than hoped. In the nose and mouth it is soft, with red fruits, tobacco, raisins and certainly a sweet note of pineapple. Aftertaste is very present due to the sherry barrel which dominates too much. plums, chocolate and caramel come to the fore. generally a round, soft and certainly good rum in which the sherry finish is a bit too dominant.
Review by Nils123
I would have expected a little more complexity for its age, but unfortunately this is not the case. The alcohol is flawlessly integrated and there are no changes with water. Unfortunately, it drops off a little in the finish. Nevertheless, a good rum.

smells better than it tastes. Old LP raped sherry
Review by Buddudharma
Unfortunately, the combination of sherry finish and relatively low ABV doesn't completely win me over, as the RX1012 with reasonably similar key data is in a different league.
