Velier Carrere Montebello Basseterre 1997
Here's the surprise: at 49.2% this drinks softer than the number suggests, with the alcohol so well tucked in that several tasters call it easy. It's a molasses-and-cane-juice Guadeloupe blend from Velier — fresh grassy and hay notes, peach and citrus, clove and pepper, with a honey or maple sweetness. Elegant and rounded, though a few find it a touch thin and light on complexity.
The community says- Well-integrated alcohol

How does Velier Carrere Montebello Basseterre 1997 taste?
Aggregated from 35 community reviews.
Elegant, grassy aged agricole, gentle and rounded Most find it an elegant, well-integrated aged agricole — grassy, fruity, gently spiced. The honest catch: the reduced strength leaves it a little thin and one-dimensional for some.

A great aged agricole, tasted a couple of years later and still impressive

This rum is lightly dry and has a long finish. Fruity with spices and it has a herbal touch with honey to it. Very well balanced and complex. A lovely rum and a very good buy in my mind.

Rather elegant agricole with some peppery heat
Review by Jakob
Wonderfully fresh grassy notes meet fruit, nougat sweetness and spice. Thanks to the reduced strength almost to be called easy sipper, but this would not quite do justice to the rum, because the distillate remains aromatically alive and knows to show diverse new nuances. A very successful rum.

Very elegant and pleasant rum, this one..the nose is very fruity, with peaches upfront, a touch of floral and herbal and some light spices to it..the wood is just a hint in the background. The palate il a little bit sweeter, with those peaches that become to me as syrup-y. As time goes by, the wood influence is more present, giving a spicier rum. I really would have taste this one in comparison with the 1995, but it took me almost 2 hours to prepare the samples xD..guess I’ll do it another time :D

Richtig klasse!

Delicious drop, but a few percent more would do it good.

fruity-spicy (clove) nose. On the palate also rather spicy, out the back at the same time peppery and a slight sweetness. Not super intense, but nice and round.

Review by jems5

Very good elegant Agricole, with well integrated alcohol....

In my mind slightly better than its older brother. Light and a little one dimensional. Thinwith some anise on the finish. It’s good but doesn’t really set me alight. Spice, hay, some complex nutty spice. Comes together well but doesn’t quite set me alight with desire to hunt it out. More subtle and refined than many, solid but not remarkable
