8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get is herbaceous, coppery, with sherry barrel impact and notes like leather, cocoa, dried fruits. On aeration, it becomes sulphurous, sherry barrel still present with dark chocolate, coffee, some pleasant aromas arise with tropical fruits and banana, lime and spicy vanilla, cinammon. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is intense, but tasty with sugarcane juice and fruits like dried apricots, raisins, as the wood is roasted, burnt with caramelized notes, cocoa, mocha, nuts and chocolate, spicy with vanilla and pepper.On oxidation, the rum is slightly sulphurous, fruitier with citrus and red fruits, the cane is herbaceous, mineral, darker with black tea.A very complex palate... 8,6:The finish is long, slightly bitter, dry&furry, the cane is candied, vegetal, earthy with tobacco, the wood is burnt with caramel, leather, nuts, coppery, as the fruits are delicious with dried, citrus tones. Sorry, but this rum is not for everybody. I suppose, it has rare taste, but it is not pleasent for me.

The palate can still convince the best with this Karukera. If it still captivates with fruit, herbs, leather and waxes, the palate loses all along the line. Burnt mocha, wood and pepper, as well as some sulfurous artificial aroma spread unpleasant... the finish is not much better!

Speziell und dadurch doch interessant… Nase: als erstes überrascht ein muffiger, schwefeliger Geruch, der sich mit Kakao-Bohnen, Vanille, Kaffee und Nougat doch zu einem harmonischen Ganzen verbindet. Er wirkt einerseits wurzelig, kräuterig mit getrockneten Pilzen und andererseits würzig-fruchtig, mit Kümmel und Schokorosinen. Anders find ich gut. 8,2 Gaumen: auch wieder anders. Hat einen durchaus süßen Antritt und kommt dann wieder mit dem Schwefel und viel malziger Schokolade. Würzig mit Salz, Kümmel und Lakritze, Tonkabohne und Mokka mit Nougat und etwas Honig. Hinten pflanzlich mit Safran. Irgendwie doch gut. 8,4 Glaube schon, dass sich hier die Geister scheiden. Ich finde diese deutliche Schwefel-Schoko-Note irgendwie andersartig-gut.

Very unusual nose with lime, green bell pepper, and something along the lines of sorrel, perhaps copper (as some describe). The palate is nutty and woody. In the background something towards plastic or wax. Quite intense, but unfortunately not quite to my taste.

Stärkster Ausreisser aus den verkosteten Karukeras für mich, insbesondere aufgrund der überraschend prägnanten Rauchigkeit. Mir etwas zu viel, aber wem das gefällt, der ist hier gegebenenfalls richtig aufgehoben.

This is a rather nice version of karukera in heavy cask profile. The tannines have some sulfur in it, a bit untypical but still a pleasant experience. For what it is I like it a lot. Really potent flavours in it!
