Moon Import Demerara Rhum Aged 21 Years 1985

"Impressive rum, very complex despite ABV," as one taster put it — and that captures this old Guyanese Demerara well. Prune and dark dried fruit lead into leather, tobacco, roasted wood and fresh rubber, with burnt sugar underneath. Several think it's a Port Mourant or Enmore from the 1960s. At 46% the nose is huge; a few wish the palate hit as hard.

The community says
  • Complex, balanced
  • Huge dried-fruit nose

The nose is a dream. Should be a 64 Port Mourant in terms of taste. Great profile, unfortunately a little thin after the cadenhead64. More on the woody side, not a fruit bomb.

Complex profile with a wonderful balance of dark fruit notes, dried plum, tart woodiness and heavy sweetness. This is probably a 1964 vintage, which is also true in terms of taste. Outstanding Demerara!

For the low alcohol content very intense nose dark dried fruits, leather, rubber, coffee chocolate lots of wood and Demerara syrup. Palate I find a lot weaker (on a high level). But very similar to the nose ... Finish with a great combination of sweetness and bitterness.

#6516 20.03.2026 Part three of todays evening tasting with a few friends. And now were going for the great non spitting rums. Today the music is a bit different because not all like my Trance and Psy Trance, so we have settled on some EDM and hits from the 80s. Thank you Silas for supplying the samples. This is a very good Demerara and it has very good balance and ABV integration. The nose has roasted wood, medicinal notes, smoke and plum with a hint og flowers. The palate is ily with anise, roasted wood, chocolate and dried fruit as well as light plum. The finish is medum long and light spicy with roasted wood, smoke, prunes and chocolate.

According to my information, this bottling was bottled in 1985. Would therefore have to be a 1964 or younger PM. And that also fits the flavor profile of Cadenhead's 1964 PM only in diluted form

Oh wow. That's quite a nose. Despite the low ABV, the aromas jump out at you as soon as you pour it. Dried fruit with prominent plum compete with tobacco, leather, barrel, rubber, burnt sugar and a little liquorice. More tobacco, wood and leather in the foreground on the palate, but very fine. I would have liked a few % more, but it's very good as it is.

Für 46% unfassbar intensiv und schwer und dicht. Super schöner Vintage Enmore mit einer intensiven Sherry aromatik. Kein Wunder nach 21 Jahren im "Sherry wood". Sehr gelungene Abfüllung von Moon Import.

This really has the vibe of the small skeldon brother. burned sugar, maritime notes and a lot of fresh rubber. on the palate it continues, although the rubber turned into talkum. a very warm and spice filled finish. great

Avg Rating 8.4/10 over 1,600 Rums

Guyana is the last home of the wooden still, and the only rum country where the place on the label is almost never the place the rum was made. Its rum, called Demerara after the river, went from 109 distilleries to one, and the estates that closed live on as marks: codes for a recipe, not for a machine. Reading them is the whole skill.
