Today we had another tasting with a few surprises in store. This one is not your standard Caroni. Probably a good "starter Caroni".

An accessible Caroni with a significantly milder profile than many other representatives of the distillery. On the nose, subtle, dirty notes with tar, a hint of rubber and smoke, accompanied by a slight sweetness and restrained spice. Soft and round on the palate with gentle bitterness, wood, a hint of leather, and just a hint of Caroni wildness. Seems deliberately tamed and well controlled, making it easy to drink. A clean continental bottling that is well suited as an introduction, even if it lacks the depth and intensity of great tropical bottlings in direct comparison.

Rate 8.3 01-01-2026 - Rate 8.9 I know that rating rum New Year’s Eve can be subject to higher ratings but it’s only once a year and all have to be registered. Nose tar, leather, wood and spise Palate follows close by with a herbal note. Medium finish dominated by tar and wood. 07-02-2026 - Rate 8.9

It was matured for 9 years in Trinidad, than transferred to Europe. Wood, leather, tar, rubberand smoke on the nose. In the palate petrol, leather , spices and also fruits. Tea and mint are noticable in the finish, which is medium.

aroma sharper, I smell tall grass, maybe sugar cane leaves, maybe a little honey the taste is full, strong, powerful, heavier but terribly honeyed

Good thing it says Caroni, otherwise I would have guessed a mediocre Ten Cane with poorly integrated alcohol.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the time of its greatest glory rum, which was added at a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who took a liking to the rum because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.
