Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof
Most people land in the same place: at 69% this is a mixing workhorse first, and a decent neat pour second. Expect molasses, dark chocolate, caramel and ripe banana with a big alcoholic kick. Fans call it "warm and a little bit funky" and love it in Tiki drinks. Sip it neat and the booze needs air, water and patience before the flavors open up.

How does Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof taste?
Aggregated from 1,873 community reviews.
Punchy overproof mixer with chocolate and banana Loved as an overproof mixer that also holds tropical fruit, chocolate and caramel. The catch: neat it burns and reads thin on complexity, so most reach for cola or cocktails.

This is a must-have for the cocktail bar. Great price and intense flavor. Nice sweetness, fruit, and molasses. Sipping is very rough though due to the high alcohol content, but it’s okay if you take it slow.

23.12.2025 Have some of my old colleagues over for an EKTE tasting that I promissed a while back. This bottler is no more ans I am pretty sure that a few others will follow in 2026. This is rum number oe of the surprises I am serving today. ----------- A very positive surprise! Once rested it is pretty fruity and well balanced, even tried it in a Rum'n'Coke where it did pretty well.

I was honestly disappointed with it. I think the alcohol content is too much for this rum. It covers all the fruity notes. With those degrees I have drunk better
Review by Mirko Frosini 🇮🇪
Nice rum! The very low price and low confidence in low-end Plantations had me a bit conditioned. Strong, but really enjoyable with its crisp chocolate and coffee aromas!
Review by Stefan Persson
The content comes from Barbados (W.I.R.D., I suppose), Guyana (PM) and Jamaica (Maybe Hampden, but I don’t know). It’s molasses based and both column still and pot still rum is in it. Overall I must say that it reached far from my expectations. I believe it should be used just as a mixer.

Acquired taste, not a bottle I would rushing to purchase but would drink it if someone offered it..I can see this as a camp fire drink
Review by Galli33
Unfortunately, the alcohol is simply too dominant. It isn’t integrated particularly well, and I have to say that even the 86% monster from Rom Deluxe carries its strength more elegantly than this one. That said, the value for money is excellent. For a relatively modest price, you still get a well-made, good-quality rum. If you can look past the rather aggressive alcohol, it’s a bottle that offers plenty of character for the money.
Review by Thunderbird
For me, it's a classic mixer and, considering the price, it's great! Intense dark and heavy aromas predominate, of wood, licorice, slightly roasted and dark chocolate. Red dried fruit is also present.

Sharp as a pig, unforgiving
Review by cigares
It stings on the nose! Like a cognac nose, rum raisins, woody. Pungent on the palate too, sharp, doesn't fulfill all the promise of the nose. Rum grapes, woody, lots of vanilla, but not as balanced as the nose. Short finish. Watts, but lacks balance and especially depth.A little water calms the beast and makes it more balanced. Interesting.Tasted again and more interesting than the first time.

One of the coolest mixers for a reasonably priced CubaLibre. I would always prefer a Captain Morgan, Bacardi, Havana Club etc. Almost unbeatable for the price. There are of course better rums, but not in this price range. Pure is simply not his world, but it's not really made for that.
Review by DangerSnert
Mixed Surprisingly good dispite the 69% alcohol
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
For me, by far the best overproof rum in terms of PLV. Top mixability, even pure relatively good drinkable and simply a bank in X drinks that require dark rum as an aroma bomb. Also makes the hottest Feuerzangenbowle ever 😂 I celebrate this rum ! Hopefully the recipe remains as it is!

Není můj šálek, ale zajímavá zkušenost.
Review by LukaŽiga
8,1:On the nose, there are ripe and stewed fruit with cocoa and vanilla and finally oily nuts. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is smooth and buttery with a subtle herbaceous profile. This is followed by an explosion of sweet spices, accompanied by a rich, meltingly woody caramel. A caramelized molasses flavor then emerges, revealing the dark chocolate. 7,9:The finish medium long, as the roasted notes linger, accompanied by spices, smoky dark chocolate and wood..
Review by HenryL
Wonderfully fruity blend that you do not notice its high alcohol content negatively. One of the best value for money, both in cocktails and neat.

If you want something extra strong and you can drink it without mixing, this Plantation O.F.T.D. 69% ideal choice at a favorable price 👍
Review by Maxime Clr 🇫🇷
It heats up in there, what a power! Not a big fan but has the merit to have watts (69%) and to send a true kick in the face! Pure it develops tastes of dried fruits, coffee and leather. Very big length and remains very hot in mouth for a long time. A real woody and roasted side. To privilege in cocktails according to me, or then in digestive during a very watered dinner... Lacking clearly of smoothness, coherence and complexity but not so unpleasant to drink.

PLV absolute grenade. Normally only used as a mixer, but have just made the pure tasting. For this price a super bottling.76/100

On a second tasting with some water and longer time in the glass, I find this rum much better. After the alcohol is gone, there is mainly caramel, roasted flavors and chocolate with fruit. In the mouth, it doesn't really go undiluted. Very sharp alcoholic. It remains roasted chocolate and fruit.
Review by Decky Hicks Doughty
On the nose it's got lots of molasses and dark chocolate notes with prunes and oak following. There's a little tea at the end. On the palate, once the bite of the 69% chills out, the woody barrel notes hit first followed by a big, but not off-putting amount of sweetness. The palate then moves to cloves and a viscous oiliness that coats the mouth. Again, in a good way. On the finish the wood mellows and dark chocolate and engine oil linger. A nice sipper for something of such a high ABV.

Review by abaker-rum
An intense rum at the high proof, but still quite good. I can’t say this is one I will reach for often to sip neat, but I think the tropical fruit flavors, mixed with chocolate, caramel, and vanilla would make great cocktails.
Review by Lot-NAS
I had to check twice that this bottle is only 20-25€. What a bargain! Clearly a Navy Rum and balanced really good. I find the Guyana parts most present, follow by Jamaica and a bit vanilla and wood from Barbados here and there. Looking at my empty bottle I think I should get another one. Or a case.
Review by Filip Šikula
Hodně srandy za pár korun. Hodně alkoholová vůně doplněná čokoládou. V chuti ale překvapí přezrálé banány i ananas. Alkohol překvapivě hezky integrovaný a závěr je dlouhý a hřejivý. Prima volba do míchačky, ale ani sám neurazí.
Review by Jean Louisss
An interesting blend but I don't like the dark side that Guyana brings. A blend only of Barbados and Jamaica would have been more appreciable I think. That said, it remains a satisfactory rum
Review by Serge
Leider eine billige Alkoholnote an Nase und Gaumen, die pur doch etwas stört. Für Drinks allerdings recht gut und auf jeden Fall der Hammer für den Preis.
Review by Fasen
A good blend! You can really feel the Barbados and Jamaican flavors, which blend well together.
Review by Christoph
I do not know what to say here. Actually yes only to mix there, but I am extremely surprised how well the rum can drink pure and at this price.
Review by Rumbaer
Beautiful overproof rum. Makes a good mixer. Very interesting in terms of price. Already a board on its own. Diluting down a little to taste new flavors makes sense. Smells strongly alcoholic, roasty and woody. On the tongue, as expected, also very strong alcoholic, powerful. Dark chocolate with some vanilla at the end.
Review by RUMpelstilzchen
BAM! You can taste the alcohol. The other flavors flash through a little. Chocolate, coffee, raisins. I like it, sometimes a glass neat, a blast in a cocktail. Unbeatable value for money.
Review by Renato
Very fruity on the nose, very toasted on the palate with empyreumatic notes.
Review by Mike H.
The alcohol isn’t very well integrated and overpowers all other flavors.
Review by Rare Akuma
This has clearly been made and marketed to serve as a bar bottle and it’s excellent at serving this purpose. I regularly make cocktails and always have one of these on hand. However I wouldn’t recommend sipping this as it is severely lacking complexity. This needs air, ice, other rums and fruit juices to truly shine as the mixer backbone it’s intended to be. The nose is fairly unexpressive and doesn’t reveal much other than volatile pure alcohol content. There’s a bit of tangy orange followed by dark, bitter notes from burnt sugar and espresso coffee. The volatility on the nose didn’t invoke much excitement for the taste, but after lots of aeration it positively surprised me. Again the bitter, burnt sugar, but this time in interplay with ripe passion fruit, pineapple husks and blonde caramel. Followed by a dark chocolate finish with sparse vanilla.
Review by Henry Davies
It’s a rum of two sides. Some elements I really enjoy and others that don’t quite work. It handles the ABV well and is overall smooth and well balanced. The nose is alcoholic so need to take your time, over time marzipan and leather emerges. The mouth is relatively light, with wood still notes and the robust over proof hit. Finish is light with some funk and pineapple at the end. It’s not a bad sipper and for sure would be a great float. A solid offering from Plantation

Cacao, pelle, legno, frutti tropicali e qualche spezia, alcol un po' invadente, buono in miscelazione
Review by Godspeed
It’s a pretty good overproof but it’s less useful in cocktails than it first seems. Doesn’t integrate nearly as well as a Lemon Hart 151 but sips remarkably well for this proof. I get the feeling they got very excited about the first impression that this bottle makes but after some experimentation you quickly realize it has a tendency to sit “on top” or outside of the other flavors you make with it which fails to make it my go-to high proof for cocktails.
Review by w00tAN
Beautiful overproof. Can also be drunk neat, especially the chocolate notes are blatant, but fruit such as orange is also recognizable. The color is also very inviting, even if it is guaranteed to be re-colored. Alcohol is well integrated, the 69% is difficult to estimate. I'm looking forward to trying it out as a mixer.
Review by Tom Buteneers
Nice to add as an extra in cocktails (e.g. as a float or to add an extra kick in it as a counterbalance).Pure it is not wrong, but very straightforward.
Review by Jan Lu
Rather less suitable for drinking straight. It lacks complexity and the alcohol is not so well integrated, which is not to be expected given the price.
Review by Andrew Mainprice
A few drops of water to make a lovely sipper(very slowly)
Review by François Delmotte
Attracted by the "experience and marketing" of 69%, I decided to try it. In the end, I found it very interesting on the nose, with vanilla and caramel aromas and the presence of esters. On the palate, however, I could taste the 69%, with lovely aromas that were pleasant overall. Long finish, due to the alcohol content, with notes of fruit.
Review by thomas fraboulet
Unique. Put a little in a Mai Tai to elevate it to New hights ! Really interesting and worth it as a mixer. Dark notes + cacao, really smooth despite being high abv, for tiki cocktails it is a staple in any home bar.
Review by Jack M
Warm and toasted. Nice dark chocolate notes on the finish.

Ordentlicher Mix-Rum mit einem sehr guten PLV
Review by Christian Rudt
Is certainly intended for mixing and there certainly also manifold good usable. Pure then but quite sharp in taste but quite drinkable.
Review by Kay Meertens
A great mixer indeed, but it wouldn't do this rum justice to label it only as such. This is an absolute bang-for-your-buck bottle. Not if you're looking for complexity, but it's very tasty and definitely suitable for drinking neat despite its strength. A lot of raisin and baked apple, as well as orange (especially diluted) and liquorice root (not the candy). If someone is looking for a rum under 30 euros and is not afraid of a punch in the face, this is something I'd recommend.
