Dictador XO Insolent / Platinum
Opinion lands right in the middle here: plenty of people call it one of their favorite Dictadors, while others find it too sweet and too soft at 40%. Expect a coffee-house nose — cappuccino, toffee, caramel — carrying into chocolate and vanilla on the palate. Several tasters describe it as "like pure silk," rounded and easy. The recurring gripe is that it lacks kick and reads dosed.

Once again stopped by my favorite rum from the early days. I still like it very much, it is a round combination of roasty and sweet flavors that are very intense. Coffee, cream, caramel, chocolate, spices. I like it very much, since today I also know that this rum is a blend of burned out Jerez and Port barrels. Fruits you look in vain, unfortunately.

Relatively flat but quite okay in taste

8,6:The nose of this rum first grabs you with the thickness of a humid woody note. Then the familiar markers of the Dictador brand follow: coffee first, then nuts and caramel that form a lovely gourmet praline. A few touches of rancio, that is to say, of oxidation and nuts in the manner of a yellow wine, come and go for a much more unusual profile. Molasses and toasted wood then offer a picture of toasted bread or brioche and maple syrup. This nose is overall very dark and roasted. The opening will allow all the aromas to bind together, one continues to think of a maple syrup, but with an extra opulence. These aromas are rather dry, but we can guess a certain roundness, characterised by caramel. One imagines that the rum would go well with a dessert coffee. 8,3:On the palate, the coffee is both dark and sweet, almost tart. The caramel notes spread out on the tongue while the roasted side brings contrast and a certain astringency. The caramel is salty and gives off strong, woody, toasty flavours. The contact with the palate is soft and sweet despite these dark brown notes. 8,2:On the finish, the whole continues to melt and take the form of a thick maple syrup that flows gently. Edit:19.7.25, a sweet dessert

Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the fourth one of the six. Another great surprise beating the Perpetual by one point. This rum is almost perfectly balanced in the spice and sweetness and a pretty complex one as well. Like pure silk when it passes down your throat. Price to quality is very good on this one as well.

The taste is soft and smooth on the palate. Notes of vanilla, caramel parfait, coffee and oak result in a balanced, round play of aromas that fills the mouth for a long time. Such an absolute pleasure 🥃👍

It’s an unusual rum. The nose is all creamy toffee and hints at sweetness, with an element of raw spirit at the edge like Sake. The mouth is lightly spiced, more butterscotch and caramel but somehow under weight. It is dosed but that I was expecting, where it lacks is the thinness of the mouth and finish, it fades away moderately quickly but has no presence on the tongue which really lets it down. The finish it lightly peppery and spiced. For the price it is lacking but something a bit more unusual in the sweetened Spanish style

surprisingly fruity and yet extremely intense after creme brúlée and port wine sweetness. delicious but here it definitely seems to me after residual sweetness from port and sherry barrels.

The nose is very sweet. Very similar to a luxury iced cappuccino, something with toffee sprinkles. The palate is just as sweet as the nose and keeps all the cappuccino notes but with now a touch of spice. Very rounded, could do with more kick, lacks attitude. The finish has a mid range length and picks up some dark chocolate notes and a touch of praline and toasted marshmallows. Overall, it's too sweet for me. And for the price, I was really surprised. This has to be heavily dosed. I would be interested in trying this at a higher strength though.

The Dictador XO Insolent is perhaps not the Holy Grail, as which it is often presented, but it is definitely an excellent rum. On the nose, it is as one imagines a South American rum. Intense wood with a slight sweetness. The palate is very pleasant with coffee and chocolate notes. For me, one of the best classic rums. Although not as explosive as a Jamaican, not as heavy as the colleagues from Guyana, but also not as light as many rums from Barbados. A great rum that is right in the middle. A recommendation for everyone.

One of my favorites so far from Dictador. Very smooth with lots of flavors. Coffee, chocolate, caramel, sweet. Loving it.

More pastry than aurum. Sweeter too. But still that omnipresent coffee and a lack of length and complexity. It's a pity to reduce so much.

On The Rocks: On the nose strong brown sugar with underlying molasses and mild spices. It smells sophisticated and smooth with just a hint of alcohol. Taste catches you off guard. The taste reveals a very strong brown sugar sweetness that rapidly evolves into more complex flavours of mild fruit and floral notes with moderate spice and oak. Finish is long with the brown sugar sweetness evolving into a slight treacle bitterness. This is a beautiful rum demonstrating come sophisticated complexity. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose Pepsi zero with a mild sweetness. Taste is smooth with a delicate sweetness. Finish is short with the sweetness fading out. It would be a waste to drink this mixed but it does taste good.

Very sweet, with notes of caramel, coffee and chocolate. A little fake, but drinkable.

Initial smell of butterscotch and caramel. A little wood, coconut. Dark amber pour. Sugared plum in the mouth. Some honey. Pretty sweet. Decent complexity still though. A hint of pepper. Sample thanks to Yaro.

Quite sweet compared to other Dictador bottlings. Cocoa, almond, creme brulee with smoke and dried fruits.
