Velier Long Pond TECA 2007
Built for people who already chase high-ester Jamaican funk, this Long Pond TECA is a nail polish, glue and rubber bomb layered over overripe pineapple, banana and mango, with oak and vanilla underneath. At 63% the alcohol sits shockingly well. Several tasters call it their favorite of the NRJ Long Ponds; a few find the acetic, ester-heavy attack tiring over a full glass.

Great rum, among the best I have tasted. Hints of roastiness, peanuts, solvents/nail polish, barrel/woods, licorice, pastry and light vanilla. I find it well balanced and would never stop drinking it. A deep rum. The finish is endless.

The dignified brother of the TECA 2003. In 2007, the dead dog in the Dunder Pit was finally dissolved. Nail polish, woody, mango etc. Very complex. At the beginning I tend to associate it with Hampden, but after a longer period of ventilation it becomes animalistic like a tropically matured Caroni. Not a beauty, but very interesting and unique. (I should add that I don't find these 🇯🇲 stinkers sexy at all).

Definitely in love with long pond 🤤

Review by Mirco
Very powerful Long Pond with intense ester aromas. The nose is dominated by pineapple, banana and fermented tropical fruits, accompanied by solvent notes and a little vanilla. The palate is dense and explosive with ripe fruit, a slight herbaceousness and spicy wood. The finish is long, warm and characterized by a distinctive funk. An expressive Jamaican that clearly reveals the typical Long Pond DNA.
Review by Jakob
Archetypal Long Pond High Ester profile with excellent alcohol integration. Aromatic complexity meets balance - the tropical maturation ensures exceptional balance on the one hand, while the fruit aromas are impressively versatile on the other. Great.

THIS RUM, WHAT A RUM! It is simply a cascade of aromas very armonic and intoxicating. It is extremely fruity (exotic), empyreumatic (rubber / tar / burnt / grilled), greedy, slightly spicy, powerful, pastry, funky, fat, fresh, animal, finely wooded ... All this with a very well integrated alcohol. In short, we manage to fill almost all the aromatic palette with this juice, it's quite crazy! It is a very particular rum which will not necessarily please everyone because of its aromatic power. For me it is almost perfection, I am a fan!
Review by Oliver
TECA DNA beautiful sweetness tropical fruit. Clearly more "pleasing" than its older brother. Quasi a blend of TECA 2003 and Foursquare... 🤓Very successful!

Pretty good release in my mind.
Review by DomM
Very intense and tasty. I don’t get any greasy / meaty long pond notes at all (which is good, cause I really do not enjoy those 😅) . Very nice stuff. Side by side to the HV TECA 2005, this is much more musty on the nose vs. more fruity notes on the HV. From the freshly opened bottle this, however, has the edge on the palate as the HV starts off with to much of an alcoholic sting.
Review by Tschusikowsky
After a few seconds, an ester bomb explodes on the palate😋 quite harmonious despite the intensity. Very digestible rum...dense and intense

Online tasting of various TECA and TECC organized by Mirco. First of all, many thanks for the great split to be able to try them all side by side. Now I had to readjust a few ratings.

Rum Friendly Club Advent Calendar, Day 15. A warm nose of overripe fruit and esters. Notes of cedar support the fruit. Esters are kept in check on the palate, but dominate at first, then ripe fruit takes over, supported by refined cedar wood and a pastry note. The finish is long and elegant, with tropical fruit and a pleasant pastry note. A delicious rum that's very reminiscent of Jamaica, but not of Hampden.

I let it rest for one hour in a close glass. Than i opened the glass OMG this is the heaven for a sniffer: glue, rubber, varnish, nail polish, solvents, ester, ester and more ester (is has ca. 1300gr/hlpa). Then after some times you‘ll get the fruits, oak… The alcohol 63% are integrated very very well. I really enjoy this sample 😍 Nose: Ester, Solvents, nail polish, glue, rubber, varnish, trop. fruits, mango, overripe, woody, oak, vanilla, peppery, roasted Mouth: dry, full bodied, strong, delicious, funky, complex, intense, ester, bitter, glue, trop fruits, banana, overripe fruits, pineapple, a bit sweet, caramelized, wood(oak), leather, vanilla, roasted, almond Finish: long, dry, ester, warm, overripe fruits, woody(oak), vanilla, toasted, leather

A festival of flavor in the mouth... Probably the best bottle I have ever tasted
Review by Aussierumfan
A beautiful rum with all the right notes! Deep, complex and flavoursome with lovely alcahol integration. Fruity, funky, glue with a touch of wood and a slight sweetness. I could definetly make this work as a daily sipper if I had a better supply 😅 a long finish.
Review by Vincent D
Sick nose. Overripe fruits, esters, glue, banana, more esters, wood. It's funky as hell. On the palate, the 63° is there. It's strong and spicy at first. Then the fruits take over, with more glue. Heavier notes appear at the end of the palate: wood and leather in particular. I expected an endless finish. It’s actually less pronounced than the TECC for example. Edit: It's been a long time since I tasted this TECA. But damn, it's good!

Mirco's blind tasting TECA/TECC No.5: My first association was: HV 2005 TECA... and it is very similar to this one...only much smoother, as well as a longer opened HV. Here, too, an extensive interplay of aromas that challenges, delights and pampers you from the nose to the finish. This is how a rum should be.
Review by rumcokki
Prior to this bottle I had occasion to taste the TECC same vintage, which I found to be round and satisfying. Here a few more edges in the mouth in my opinion, so a few points less.
Review by Leo Krüper
Great TECA, I liked it best from the NRJ TECA/C. Hardly any bitter tones, little wood, no sweetness either. Simply great umami notes.
Review by Christoph
My wife spilled the nail polish on the oak floorboards and then used her leather jacket to wipe it up. Ester fruit bomb that comes with a smokiness and woodiness that harmonizes extremely well.
Review by TheJackDrop
Superbe.
Review by Frank
Opinions are divided on this, but I am enthusiastic about the extremes. Nose: very expansive and intense! Full of esters, solvents and glue, but rather sweetish and thick, like Pattex. In addition, very pleasant citrus fruits, above all mandarin but also orange and lemon as well as tropical fruits, pineapple and banana. This is followed by the caramel sweetness of dark maple syrup and vanilla. A slight vinegar note and almost a touch of umami on the finish. Palate: wow, really astringent and ester-heavy. Polish. Then immediately salty-sweet with a transition to tropical fruits such as banana and pineapple. Sweetness of marzipan paste and some umami at the end. The esters are still in your mouth the next day Super demanding and extreme. I like the TECC even better, but TECA is already brilliant

Review by DaveLamb
nice LP, one of my favorite "Continental Flavoured". the most balanced and expressive one. heavy tropical furits, solvents, proper rubber, mild wood with cocoa/nuts and cozy caramel toffe. the sweet(toffee, caramel, sugar) is really appropriate. adding little water or oxidization can show more layers and sour cherry, sour fruits. (personal rating: teca 07: 91, tecc 07&stce 05: 89, teca 05: 86)
Review by TheRhumhoe
A Long Pond with remarkable aromatic power. The nose is funky as can be, with powerful notes of esters, glue, varnish and solvents, lovely pastry notes, and ripe tropical fruit galore. Woody, vanilla and spicy notes follow, then astonishing notes of rubber, custard, tobacco and grapes make themselves felt. The palate is just as explosive, with the same Jamaican framework, to which caramel, a hint of smoke and leather are added, for a concentrated, powerful, intense yet very well-balanced whole. The long, dry finish is carried by toasty, chocolate and woody aromas, exotic fruits, freshness, tea and tobacco. An exceptional aromatic experience.

An exceptional concentration of flavours.

Wahou ! 👃 De magnifiques esters. Nez très puissant. Beaucoup de fruits tropicaux surmûris à l'extrême. Torréfaction sur l'arachide grillé. Dissolvant/vernis. Miel de thym. Ananas rôtis, carambole trop mûrs. Saumure.

Finally, I can compare the two TECA from NJR..starting from the younger. The nose is wonderful..there’s so much going on: mineral rocks, vanilla, funky fermented fruits (pineapple, banana, jackfruit) along with the typical LP flavors of buttery meat. The palate is leagues more manageable and pleasant compared with the TECC, with an added acidity, possibily citrus..then only downside I can find is that the finish seems to be a little bit shorter than it brothers. This is the most approachable of the TECA/TECC series, hands down!

A slap in the face. This juice is among the best I've ever tasted. It's rich, deep, full of aroma, funky as hell.... A big aromatic bomb 🤩🤩🤩 for the best LP I've drunk. I'd been keeping the bottle unopened for 3 years because of other juices to finish first... and the big explosion in the mouth, full of ester in short, just enormous 😍
Review by Jarek
Today, the 2007 TECA, 2005 TECA, and 2007 TECC. I really like the 2007 TECA. Lots of esters and overripe fruit on the nose. Sweet and sour on the palate, again overripe fruit, some wood and marzipan. Pleasant, warm finish.
Review by Lot-NAS
What a great Long Pond - loads of (dried) fruits, glue, nail polish and rubber (always strange to comment this as something positive), just the right amount of wood and some spices. In the finish some leather, toasted wood and hints of mango are a great wrap-up.

Jeden z mých oblíbených Long Pondů, komplexní, ale přesto celkem učesaný v porovnání s NRJ kolegy TECA 2003 a TECC 2007. Vůně bohatá, esterově-ovocná, přidávají se i sladší tóny. Chuť jamajsky delikátní, nemůže chybět tropické ovoce a estery, navíc kůže a špetka mentolu.

Chuťově je to intenzivní nálož přezrálého ovoce a technických tónů. V dlouhém závěru hlavně přezrálé ovoce, banán a obecně estery. Sečteno podtrženo perfektní Jamajka.
Review by Tom Buteneers
Quite pungent and acidic, pretty dry as well.. In the past I think I would have rated it higher. It’s not particularly balanced, but an ester powerhouse. It does linger for quite a while, leaving a drying sensation throughout the mouth.
Review by Martin Spooner
An insane rum. Pure High Esther. Insanely strong. A strong piece. Perhaps too strenuous. For me, drinkable in between but not long-lasting. Nice that something like this exists and that I was allowed to try it.
Review by kondgab
Nose: ester, nail polish, glue and tropical fruits. Palate: esters, tropical fruits like banana, overripe fruits and wood. Finish: wood, leather, overripe fruits and vanilla. The finish is very long.
Review by Righrum
Simply amazing. NRJ series is a real hit, and this release showcases all the best of long pond. Esters and crystal ball, plus a nice acetic part that makes the mouth craving for more, and an endless finish

Just love high Esther long pond I guess!
Review by Alexander Rasch
Wow. Had the bottle for a while. Why did I wait so long. A feast. Just brutally awesome. The nose nice and funky. On the palate, the TECA has caught with completely cold. Very complex and incredibly round. I think I've fallen in love.... 😍

Review by Benoit Mahe
A very expressive nose, initially astringent and acidic on the palate before giving way to sweet, gourmand notes. The finish is warm and spicy. The whole is not bad, but I think Long Pond has better wines (the 2007 tecc and the 2005 teca, for example).

Yo sailors, Long pond - velier 2007 - 🇯🇲 - 63% Long Pond, located in Trelawny in northern Jamaica, is a distillery founded in the late 18th century using large John Dore and Vendôme stills. They are able to produce rums with a wide range of ester levels, enabling them to create a wide range of taste profiles. Bottled by Velier in association with National Rums of Jamaica Ltd. Distilled in 2007, it was aged for 12 years in the tropics before being bottled at 63%. The Mark TECA corresponds to an ester content of 1200/1300 gr/hlap. First, there's a myriad of fruits, with ripe pineapple, forest fruits, plum and cherry. There's also a touch of vinegar that's not unpleasant, giving it plenty of freshness. On the palate, the spices (still cinnamon, licorice and nutmeg) take up more space, accompanied by coca sherry, walnut jam and speculoos for the gourmet facet. Rubber, leather, varnish/glue and a hint of puffiness add extra character. What a bomb! I know this rum won't appeal to everyone with its high ester content, but the intensity and evolving length are breathtaking. All this without detracting from the balance. Cheers
