Hudson's Bay Jamaica Rum
Collectors and old-Jamaica nerds are the real audience here — this is a mid-century bottling people drink for the history as much as the taste. The nose is lovely: tamed esters, tropical fruit, bergamot, black tea and a soapy-floral violet edge. The palate turns milder — lemon, pineapple, light oak and a touch of chocolate — and several tasters find it thin, wanting more than 45%. Multiple reviewers guess old Long Pond.

How does Hudson's Bay Jamaica Rum taste?
Aggregated from 15 community reviews.
Gentle old-style Jamaica, better nose than palate A gentle, historical Jamaica most enjoy as a curiosity, not a funk bomb. The nose wins praise; the palate reads thin to many, and one member says it shines in a Mai Tai.

Always great to get the opportunity to drink such old things. Pure it is rather unspectacular, good and relatively complex (I wouldn't have thought) but not an ester bomb or alcohol cracker. In Mai Tai it really shows what it can do for me. Fruit and depth (wood, spice) are very well balanced and very harmonious. If I were to give a rating for the MT it would definitely be a 5/5. What a great surprise. Thank you Axel for this opportunity.

Sweet old style Jamaica. Floral, fruity, full of taste, calmed down with significant amount of water that taste sweet in mouth..

Something special in between. An old Hudson's Bay Jamaica blend from the 50s. Probably bottled at 45%, as was usual back then. I'm curious... Nose: very pleasant and plenty of volume. Light but clear esters, floral-fruity, a little dull and muted, but fresh at the same time. The freshness comes from lemon, which could also go in the direction of bergamot. There is also a hint of pineapple. This is underpinned by a floral violet note. The dullness comes from a slight soapiness. The finish is nicely caramelly with plenty of lovage. Interesting blend, old style, I like it. 8.3 Palate: less lax than expected. An unexpectedly fresh, sweet and sour attack. Lemon and orange diluted with sugar water and a little pineapple. Woody behind it and the muted esters extend out at the back, then transitioning into young branches. Does not keep up with the nose, but is surprisingly complex. 7.9

Beautiful ester, which comes across as rather sheltered. Old Long Pond? I like it very much!

Once again some history in a glass, an old Jamaican, probably from the 50s. As usual for that time, a little thinner, probably bottled at 45% back then. My first impression made me think of Monymusk. A dull, somewhat medicinal nose reminded me at first of some bottlings from this distillery. After a short time with a little air, however, some esters emerge, but they seem very tamed and are hidden behind a soapiness, possibly some violets and clearly bergamot and black tea. On the palate, there are significantly more esters and tropical fruits, lemon and pineapple present themselves in a very mild form, without any sour peaks. Could be an old Long Pond, which presents itself here nameless. Quite a bit of barrel, with a slight chocolateiness that lingers in the mouth and leaves an aftertaste of candied fruit with the aforementioned fruit. Not the Champions League in terms of taste, but as a nerd it's also exciting to try. An old style that no longer exists and is therefore a bit more fun!

Difficult to rate, but great to have had such a historic bottling in the glass. Reminds me most of Long Pond. Spices, fruits, and wood. All rather subtle, but quite harmonious. However, the flavor got thinner the longer it stayed in the glass. Unfortunately, the finish was also quite thin.
