This Limited Edition of The Real McCoy, aged for 12 Years, are a blend of Pot and Column still rum. It’s released at ABV 46% and a mix of rum aged in ex-bourbon casks (90%) and ex-Madeira casks (10%).

This version is slightly different than the regular 12 year old and the Madeira Cask aging has definitely smoothed this limited edition. The nose is wonderful and you just want to sit there and keep on enjoying the nose. The palate is woody with oak on the dominant side and fruit and spices coming into the mix a close number two. There is a bit of port/red wine to the palate. The finish is long and oaky with lots of fruit to it.

Round and quaffable number, surprisingly dry despite Madeira finish. Personally, it is just a little too thin and woody in the finish. The madeira influence could be much more intense for me.

Ah, well, back to the roots. I've started my journey with Foursquare and come back from time to time, as I still like the distillery's profile. At first I was a little put off, thinking the rum being a bit bland and boring. That's something you sometimes read about Foursquare, and not all expressions are up there with the best. I thought this might belong to those as well, and as the bottle was not expensive when I bought it it I was not mad about this. However, some days later the rum had quite a bit time to breathe, and this brought a new dimension of fruit, thanks to the Sherry, that had been hidden from me before. It is still a mild rum though, easygoing and something you can give an unexperienced guest.

Endlich noch die Gelegenheit gehabt, ein Sample dieses Rums zu bekommen. Finish im Madeirafass ist nicht dominant, maximal mittelmäßig bemerkbar. Runde angenehme Nase mit keinen Überraschungen, auch im Mund eher ausgewogen mit Tendenz würzig. Basierend auf 46% geht dieser Rum als gut genug für mich durch, für mehr reicht es aber nicht.

Ein schöner Einstieg für Rum aus der Foursquare Destillerie. Überfordert nicht, bringt das Foursquare-Profil mit und ist mit 46% nicht zu schwach.

... Foursquare je destilerka z Barbadosu produkujici uzasne rumy ke kazdodennimu popijeni. Je to rum, ktery oceni zejmena rumari, kteri maji plne zuby cukru a hledaji jemny, nasladly rum plny kokosu, vanilky, cokolady a karamelu. Proste prijemne a nijak agresivni chute.

Au nez, c’est boisé avec de belles épices poivrées et de muscade fraichement râpée. On retrouve la noix de coco, du chocolat, de la banane et de la vanille. C’est plutôt réussit et séducteur comme nez. En bouche, c’est très gourmand voir sucré. Beaucoup de douceur avec les fruits secs, le chocolat noir et le tabac. Les fruits sont également de la partie ! Les notes traditionnelles de la maison ne font pas défauts : vanille, noix de coco, réglisse, miel … La finale est moyennement courte sur le chocolat! En conclusion, c’est une belle réussite, on prend beaucoup de plaisir sur ce rhum. C’est gourmand. Une belle porte d’entrée chez Foursquare à un voltage tout doux … je le trouve dans la même lignée que le Doorly’s 12 Y.

On sent finalement assez peu l'influence du fût de madère c'est dommage. On est sur des notes très vanillées et pâtissières. C'est gourmand et plutôt simple.

Right off the bat you get coconut, vanilla, caramel-creamy notes, even light milk chocolate, followed by light wood, light flowery notes. But with a bit of time it reveals hints of dried fruits and wine. The palate corresponds with strong coconut, wood, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, also light spicy notes. Although I didn't catch anything from the Madeira influence here... The taste is quite full for 46%, I don't really have a feeling of dilution. I didn't expect much from this but it was a pleasant surprise for 46% rum. Not overly complex, simple Barbados on the sweeter side. In the category of rums about 45%, this is top notch. The price however...
