Abuelo 7 Años
People new to rum, or anyone who wants an easy Panama pour for cola, tend to like this one. Expect toffee, vanilla and caramel with a smoky, woody edge that's typical of Panama. It leans sweet but not cloying, and the alcohol can read a touch sharp neat. The finish is short — plenty of people call it a "great rum for the price."

I really like this Rum in Cocktails. It has a prominent somky/roasted smell and taste that is very typical of Panama Rum. Considering how cheap it is (I paid 18€), it's surprisingly good for sipping, too.

6,8:On the nose, we find a vegetal aspect reminiscent of pipe tobacco, perhaps a bit resinous, roasted.Typical notes of molasses and caramel follow, might be with orange peel. The nose is light and mild. It evolves into a touch of burnt/smoked wood, which develops vanilla notes, followed by a hint of leather, mint after a little rest. 7,2:On the palate it is very silky, even creamy and sweet with bourbon fruity notes, some tropical, charred wood, dry, a bit smoky, better than Havana club 7.We could taste butterscotch melting, caramel, a bit spicy. Some metallic notes crawl in with resting the rum, perhaps also tannins. 7:The finish is thick, honeyed, dry and woody. The caramel is still there, with a hint of licorice and some smoke, as the wood is charred and citrusy or tanninic...

Sweet rum that I'd use in a mixer 😊

Slightly sweet, toffee and caramel. Unfortunately very short and flat. There is also a little smoke. However, the tones come entirely from the wooden casks and the distillate doesn't bring anything in at all

Good value rum and not too sweet for Panama rum either!!!

Solid mixing rum and great starter. Much better than Havana 7 etc

Very good run for little money. Unfortunately, still too much sugar. Smell intense vanilla.

Day 1 in calendar 2025 from Mac Y. Tastes mostly of barrel and not much else. Short taste. The empty glass has a nice smell of smoke.

Klare Empfehlung!!
Review by MJ72

Great rum for the price. Was pleasantly surprised.

This abuelo is made from sugar cane, but the grassiness is not strongly noticeable. It has nice balance of freshness and barrel aging. Really good value for money. Recommended!
Review by Matt
This is a very approachable rum, a little on the sweeter side but not overly sweet. It makes for a great starter rum that most people will enjoy. You can drink it neat, but it feels less like a dedicated sipper and more suited to simple cocktails like a Planter’s Punch, a Daiquiri, or even a Mojito, especially if you use an aged rum in the Mojito. It offers plenty of sweet notes such as toffee, caramel, and general richness, but it’s not overly complex. The flavor is straightforward, without the funkiness of a Jamaican or heavy richness you might find in many Demerara rums. It sits nicely in between sweeter aged rums and the more medical rums, making it a solid choice for those who want something pleasant without being overpowering. Overall, it’s a great rum for the price, and very affordable for the quality it delivers.

Tested it at the same time as the Two Oak and therefore it was a little flat, both in the nose and in the mouth. Too short finnish for me

sušší, ale moc dobře vyvážený rum vůně stálá, chuť příjemná
