The Whisky Jury Hampden The Ester Hunter (Catch 6) HGML 2019
Overripbanana, glue and nail polish fly out of a 65.8% glass — the full Hampden HGML signature, with pineapple and other tropical fruit underneath and young oak framing it all. One member calls it "the best Ester Hunter" he's tasted. It drinks older than six years, the alcohol sits well, and the finish runs long and oily. Loud and radical by design.

#6809 18.05.2026 Training is done and my wife has been picked up from work so time for a few samples. Watching Gold Rush on HBO. A very nice and estery rum with a nice price tag. Lots of overripe fruits, esters, glue, polish and spices. There is a faint metallic touch to the palate.

In comparison, the two HGMLs from Christina de Middel from 2018 and the Ester Hunter Catch 6. In both, the nice Ester HGML profile is clearly recognizable. But in a direct comparison, I would prefer the Ester Hunter because it is much cheaper and I liked the taste more.
Review by Skyfly
A strong HGML that truly deserves the description "funky" through and through. Very similar to the HGML from the Christina de Middel series by Velier, but especially with better value for money. Not particularly complex, but you don't really look for that in HGMLs anyway.

#1731 27-02-2026 - Rate 8.4 This is the best Ester Hunter I have tasted. The HGML mark is in my opinion a sweet spot. Nice high ABV and classic Hampden nose and taste. Lots of ester, glue and polish. Combined whit tropical fruit and wood
Review by Banana Joe
Phew, this is a beast. An HGML just like you want it. It comes on strong and feels much older than it actually is. Overripe banana on the nose, nicely oily on the palate. The 65% ABV pushes well without being too overpowering. Great complexity for such a young age. High Ester and Hampden – that's a love story. If I factor in the price, I'm at 90+ points. Definitely a killer in a Mai Tai too. Once again, great cask selection from TWJ.

On the nose, Hampden is present, tropical fruits, esters, solvent, wood, but with the impression of a "settled" rum and not aggressive at all, with the presence of a nice pastry-like side. The palate confirms it, the alcohol is very well integrated, the rum tastes older than its age. A beautiful balance, with a warm and slightly oily mouthfeel. A beautiful and long finish on fruit and wood. The rating takes into account the superb value for money. Hampdens like this at 69 euros, it's just magical!

Nice, young, and easy-drinking continental HGML. A bit thin towards the end and the finish is somewhat short. Nevertheless, very tasty, although I liked the HGML 2020 Single Cask (Awakening Series) from the first Whisky Live Hamburg a bit better.

Review by FischeJ
Die Nase ist schön. Was man erwartet wenn man so will.

Fantastic Hampden, just like Ester 5, totally worth the release price. I think a bit less petrol and a bit more wood (in a positive way, far from annoying). Intense, fruity, long finish, alcohol very well integrated and still powerful. So young and so much flavor, incredible. Spot on Hampden.
