A very successful blend with clearly recognizable proportions of the three countries of origin. The typical Caroni notes of tar and rubber meet the dark, heavy sweetness of a Demerara. Added to this is the fruity estery freshness of Hampden, which lightens up the whole. Despite the variety, the interplay is harmonious and exciting.

Very complex, Jamaica is dominant on the nose. In the mouth then Guyana comes through stronger.very interesting blend in top quality. Lovers of fruity-estrigen rums get their money's worth. I do not (otherwise it would have against 88 points).

Velier's Navy Rum. I had high expectations. It's true that the blend is very successful. First there's the Caroni with its empyreumatic machine-shop notes, then the funky Jamaican fruitiness and finally the Demerara, which rounds things out with its roundness and old leather. The same thing in the same order on the palate. But it leaves me wanting more, perhaps a little too hot? Tastes clash a little. I'm not a fan, but I recognize all its qualities, and there are many of them, especially in direct comparison with the already very good Black Tot 2020. Another tasting and more oxidation, it's getting better and better and its rating is rising. Bottle almost empty, this rum is very beautiful. Jamaica takes over with oxidation. Caroni is still present on the nose and a little on the palate.

Rather Jamaican on the nose. Sweet fruit and glue. Wood, esters. You can come back to it over and over again and smell different things. A pleasant dirty side. On the palate, it explodes! It's woody, sweet, full of fruit and varnish. Glue. A burning sensation. How pleasant! It's warm and coats the palate. The finish is heavier. Less fruity. Bitterness, a hint of tar. Damn, that's good. Keeps its reputation! Next tastings: What a kick! I could smell it for hours.

WoW! That‘s an amazing blend! In the nose you‘ll find sweetness and ester with some wood, a lot of spice and some caroni like Tat notes. Very harmonious rum. The alcohol is integrated very well(for a blend of this kind). I find it a bit better than the royal navy tiger shark. An excellent navy rum of the heavy, intensely aromatic kind... the Caroni note really comes through here... Gumi and tar are clearly perceptible on the nose as well as on the palate. But esters, tropical fruits, wood and spices are not neglected either... the whole thing is extraordinarily complex....I like it very much Edit: In the glass again today and it needs to be raised by 0.2

An exceptional blend that really stole the show from the previously tasted Skeldons 1997, but then surprisingly was even topped by one of the four "mundane" Caronis 1997 from the 1423 tasting box, more precisely the Caroni from Cask #53. Nevertheless, this navy blend simply sets standards in its class, a successful rum in every respect without fault. Thank you, Toni, for sacrificing a bottle from your cellar for this pleasure.

Far less complex than the Navy Shark, but with a wonderful Caroni note. Not so heavy, nice blend, well integrated alcohol. Water brings out even more the fruity components.

In my opinion the most successful blend to come out of Velier! You can taste all the flavors of the various distilleries that make it up and none overpowers the other but they blend in a perfectly balanced way!

Very exciting baby blend! In a direct comparison, however, the Tiger shark wins for me by 0.1 points, as I find it rounder, more palatable, fruitier and even more complex! Nevertheless, a really tasty caroni navy blend that is still available at a good price.

Wow, a really great blend, I wouldn't have thought. The nose was immediately convincing. Leather, wood and somehow dirty. Then on the palate, nice caroni notes. Rubber and tar stand out. Very complex and also a little woody. Strong rum.

Im Direktvergleich nochmal eine Spur runder und für mich besser als der Tiger Shark. Der Caroni kommt schön durch. Toller Blend. Bei der aktuellen Preissteigerung würde ich mir allerdings eher den Tiger Shark zulegen.

A Royal Navy that represents the best of British rum. The nose is mostly Jamaican funk and Guyana's greediness with an avalanche of fruits (tropical fruits, yellow fruits, citrus) all followed by Caroni's dirty, smoky and petroliferous side in ambush. On the palate, Trinidad comes through with plenty of woody, smoky, spicy and hydrocarbon aromas. The floral and fruity notes are more in the background. It is intense, very cleaving but also very pleasant. The finish is persistent, very long on empyreumatic aromas, accompanied by a touch of bitterness with dark chocolate and some dried fruits. A powerful rum, somewhat unstable but whose quality is undeniable.

Remember this at the best navy rum ever. Perhaps Black Tot LC is slightly bettet. Notes of tropical fruit, wood, spices, ester and tar. Palate is wood, rubber, tar and spices. 8,5:On the nose, the first note we scent is varnish, well mixed with wood, tar and dirt.Caroni Spiel.We quickly settle with nicer notes, as the wood is roasted with nuts, the molasses is dark and vegetal, citrus neutralizes dirty notes a bit as we are hit with a rubber. Well, airing the rum is a solution as it becomes brighter, shiny with tempting overripe tropical and red fruits, lots of esters, vegetal notes like tea, tobacco, later some raisins, dried figs, some leather, burnt sugar and spice.Nice complexity. 9:On the palate, the attack is much more pleasant than on our first nose, with rubber, overripe tropical, dried fruits, the wood is dry and spicy, the molasses a bit bitter.The second attack is dirty and tarry, but delicious as it is paired with maple, honey sweetness, toasted wood, candied fruits.Very syrupy, delicious yellow fruits appear, paired with charred wood and toffee.We are really enjoying the complexity of this rum...With rising vegetal notes as herbs, tobacco, eucalyptus, the sweetness abates a bit... 8,6:The finish is again more dirty-Caroni like, a bit bitter, with tar, molasses, luckily roasted wood with toffee and dried fruits clear and improve the finish a lot...

The Caroni is clearly out in the finish. In the nose very dominant Demerara and a little Jamaican. In the taste is really of all three to taste something. In the finish clearly the Caroni with dirty spiciness. A successful blend. For the price you do not have to think long. Clear purchase recommendation. I love the! <3

The Guyana notes come through clearly on the nose. Wood, tobacco, leather, some varnish and charred aromas. Ester and tropical fruit also resonate in the background. Fruits resonate in the background. On the palate, there are also slightly dirty notes such as rubber and tar. I like it very much.

This is a nice rum with fruity and oaky notes from the nose to the finish. The nose is full of overripe fruits and vanilla. In the back i get tobacco, oakk and all the nice ester, varnish and rubber from this kind of rum. The palate is dry with a full body and nice complexity. Dried fruit and spices with smoky oak and rubber/varnish. The finish is long with dried fruit and vanilla with a nice tad of smoky oak.

What a complex flavor bomb! The caroni notes are difficult to detect on the nose, but they overtake you on the palate. The Jamaican, which is still very present at first, diminishes continuously. Rarely have I drunk such complex and multi-layered rums. Luckily I still have a bottle 🙂

Tasted alongside Velier Tiger Shark and I mug preferred this one. On the nose you could notice the Caroni influence. Woody, sweetness and fruity, mixed with tar, dirt, a tobacco vegetal quality, leather and hints of varnish. Tasting this I found Smokey, wood and dirty notes upfront. Then rubber and spice capped off the bold intro. Then solvents, some bitters and what seemed to be a Guyanese character.

Caroni at first nose, with the aeration comes the wood the tropical fruits the raisin the leather the tar the vanilla... I could sniff it for hours. The mouth continues on the same frame with tobacco and a touch of licorice at the end. All this is very complex! I find this mixture really exceptional

This Royal Navy is a good rum but it is unfortunately too much oriented towards associations I don't like such as herbal notes on the nose or metallic / toasted notes on the palate. From my point of view, it is far from being a legendary blend as described by most of the community. It is simply a smart way to get rid of garbage continental Demerara casks by sacrificing Caroni.

I have to admit that I haven’t had a better Navy Rum in my Glass (so far). It is complex and balanced at the same time. The Caroni is quite a central element and even when I am not that keen about Caroni overall, here it works like charm. Get your hands on a bottle while it’s still possible!

From the smell alone, we already know that the promises will be kept! A nose blending hydrocarbons and rubber that then gives way to pineapple, esters and varnish/solvents that are softened by spicy yellow fruits. A Jamaican caroni with a Guyanese finish! Excellent! This is truly a gem..I cannot find any other word that fits better..you do get the Caroni influence up front, with that dusty-dirty-minty flavor, immediately paired with the sweetness of Guyanese rum.. For its original retail price (and possibly even higher) it is a must buy for me..

There's a strong Jamaican presence in the blend, with glue and Esther and banana quite characteristic of the Jalaican terroir. As I'm not a Caroni specialist, I don't necessarily smell tar, but rather burnt caramel. On the palate, a good aeration is needed to find roundness, otherwise it's a little spicy, but very complex. Precious wood accompanied by burnt brown sugar gives this blend a little taste of reviens y. The finish remains bitter, with bitter orange and a hint of grilled barbecue.

The reputation precedes this blend, I expected a lot from it. And I was not disappointed. A very tasty navy blend, with a very clear Caroni influence. I can also taste Demerara, but I personally find Jamaica less so. The Tiger Shark, however, is no less delicious, even without the Caroni component.

Comparing to Tiger Shark I find it more complex, especially on the nose, without sole focus on Guyana. So giving this an additional point. On the nose and a first sip I get alot of Caroni, smoke, ripe banana. With further sips there's more weight on Guyana, on the finish the early notes come back, which is nice. Edit. Compared it tonight with a Black Tot 50th Anniversary. Velier has less Jamaica for me, but on the other hand offers more dirt, in a classy way. Both very good.

Nez : Fruits tropicaux/Ester/Boisé/Goudron. On est bien dans le monde des Demerara et des Navy ! C’est gras avec des notes de cacao amer, épices et noix avec du bois brûlé. C’est bien un rhum de mélasse lourd et complexe. Bouche : Il a du caractère avec ses 57.18% assez corsé, fort et sec. De la puissance et de la rondeur. On est bien sur du Boisé/Fruits Tropicaux/Caoutchouc … Finale : Belle longueur, assez gourmande avec des notes de chocolat amer, de réglisse, de boisé et de Goudron.

I compared it to the Velier Royal Navy Tigershark Ed. 02 and this one is not nearly as balanced and round. The alcohol is not as well integrated and the rum is of the "dirty" variety. Only for real navy fans.

Enjoyed many times by my family, I'm taking the time this evening to write a note. 👃 Petrol-like fragrances emanate from the glass. Diesel at the pump, motor oil, kerosene lamp. Thanks Caroni. A tropical fruity combo (mango, guava), TDL-type glazed peach, bitter orange jam and scattered red berries. Big concentration of overcooked caramel, dirty vanilla molasses, a little 60% dark chocolate and sticky Guyanese licorice. Speaking of sticky, Jamaica isn't far off, with its notes of varnish and solvents. The kick and liveliness of the esters are there, accompanied by overripe banana and a hint of overripe pineapple. A complete, complex and bewitching nose. 😋 Heavy, concentrated, aromatic structure mastered from start to finish. The Demerara pate is undeniable. Tropical fruit molasses, thick and full-flavored, baked vanilla, thick caramel, coffee and light chocolate. Then Jamaica, mashed banana, flambéed, overcooked, sprinkled with Demerara sugar. The sticky, solvent touch is also present. The black olive tapenade is there, ready for the aperitif. Trinidad makes its way, effortlessly, with those characteristic tarry, rubbery flavors. A mouthful that makes me love Rum passionately. ⛳ Long, warm, sapid. The 3 Navy terroirs are once again distinctive. Slightly warm tar, caramelized molasses, peppery spices, lively, bitter esters that gently fade to leave a varnished veil that lingers for a long time on the walls of the mouth. 💡 Everything a Navy Rum should be, with that dominant Caroni imprint to match without leaving its Jamaican and Guyanese comrades out in the cold. Complex, compartmentalized, evolving, powerful. I love it.

I love this bottle just as much as its successor, Tiger Shark. Sometimes I like one better, sometimes the other. But I really like the fact that it always tastes different somehow ... depending on the fill level, time of day and temperature or even the shape of the glass, the notes of Caroni, Demerara or Jamaica come through and the nose, palate and finish are slightly different every time. And so far I've really enjoyed every combination. A masterful blend.

Fruity and sweet on the nose, quite typical and recognizable. Quite dry on the palate, with lots of roasted and slightly toasted aromas, the 57 degrees come through very well. Very good length on the palate. Complex rum of very good quality.
